UTHM students’ review on traditional learning and e-learning in English Language Learning

Introduction
1.1
Background of the study
This study explores the student’s reviews on traditional learning and e -learning in English Language Learning. Traditional learning is a formal learning in classroom whereby teacher focuses on lecture, presentation and assessments. Traditional learning is a one-way communication between a teacher and students. In this condition, students will become less active and may lead to low interest in studies. E-learning is an education based system that utilize the uses of technologies such as the laptop, website, internet, mobile devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), smart phone and MP3 player. E-learning in English Language Learning is a different approach for teachers to improve the English Language Learning for students. Learning English can be fun when the two methods combined. In the descriptive study will illustrate the perceptions of the UTHM students regarding the language learning between traditional method and online based learning.

Problem statements
1. Traditional learning is less effective than e-learning. 2. Method of delivering through traditional learning is less favourable by students. 3. Traditional teaching limits the class activities compare to modern teaching which allows to explore different places of learning.

Objectives
The objectives of the research are as the following: 1. To identify the effectiveness of online learning and traditional learning. 2. To study the methods that can improve the traditional learning method. 3. To suggest ways to improve the implementation of e-learning to the students.

Significance of the study
The study will benefit the lecturers and students to compare and contrast between traditional learning and e-learning in English Language Learning. It is hoped that the y will find the interesting ways to learn English la nguage.

Limitations of the study
The only limitation of this study is that it takes a longer time to gather the data from the respondents.

Definition of terms
UTHM -Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia is a public university in Batu Pahat, Johor. MP3 -MP3 is an audio coding format for digital audio. It is originally defined as the third audio format of the MPEG-1 standard.

Methodology
The data will be collected through observations and questionnaires with several respondents from UTHM students.
