Chapter I Background and Rational

I.

Introduction

The word “Immersion” is done outside the school campus where in students are obliged undergo. The K-12 work immersion program as a means to develop competencies and work ethics in preparation for the real world and it’s challenges as a part of Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 40 series of 2015 the Senior High School (SHS) curriculum existing of 80 hours of hands on experience. The grade 12 students will undergo the said immersion to expose them to the actual work place setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the school head and Designated Partner Institution.

Immersion has two meanings in K to 12. The first meaning refers to a required SHS subject in the curriculum. The second meaning refers not to a subject but to a preferred mode of delivery of Technical Vocational (Tech-Voc) subject. Following the Deped Order No. 40 the grade 12 Electrical Installation and Maintenance section A (EIM-A) students in Palo National High School Technical Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) Department must be assigned in the different agencies like Octagon

2 Concrete Solution and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in order to gain some ideas how the real job is, when the tight time comes.

 As observed

Classroom setting differ in the actual work place because it has a

risk factor that the students may encountered and also in workplace the employee give you task without his/her guidance or presence unlike at classroom students are guided by there teachers or advisers.

This study examined the experiences of Grade 12 EIM-A Senior High School students who were engaged in the work immersion. It can also help the students to be ready and become motivates to finish there study in able them to have a bright future someday. The grade 12 EIM-A work immersion students learn a lot of knowledge and ideas on how an employee work in a particular job or work

Statement of the Problem This study aims to determine the lived experience of a work immersion students in the said field. Furthermore, it seeks to answer the following question: 1. What are the hindrance that the students encountered during work Immersion?

2. How do students overcome the hindrance or challenges in the new environment? Significance of the Study

The researchers of this undertaking desire to make significant contribution to the improvement and further development of the job training or immersion. To the students who are enrolled in practicum course this different factors that would affect in their on job training or immersion performance student undergo on the job training which include earning while learning opportunities to provide relevant exposure and actual experience in their chosen track.

To the students This will help the students to enhance there abilities and capability in the said field . To the administrations This may serve as a guide for them to have a knowledge about the work immersion.

Scope and delimitation The purpose of their was to examine the experiences of the students on the work immersion. A phenomenological research design using naturalistic approach was used in the study. Purposive sampling was used to select the qualified students coming from Grade 12 students of Senior High School Department of Palo National High School under the EIM-A Strand. The gender and age of the participants was not considered. Unstructured Interview was done to get the needed data from the said participants. The research took place inside PNHS ; conducting the study outside of the school premises was beyond the extent of the study. The time frame of the study was from DecemberMarch to finish the whole paper.

Chapter II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Related Literature

The work Immersion program will help students to develop their skills and prepare them to make decision on employment and to make them ready in the real world.

DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said the work immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum. That can conducted in different ways depending on the purposes and needs of the learns. These guidelines where formulated based on rich experiences of modeling schools, tech-voc schools, partnership focal persons, industry partners and youth development advocates. These guidelines can provide process support to field of the DepEd to encourage relationships and strengthening partnerships so that learners will have access to suitable work immersion venues and other related resources.

The DepEd order No. 30 series of 2017 released the guidelines specify that the said work immersion will enable student to become familiar with the work place behavior and apply their competences in areas of specialization.

7 The Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu City Division in partnership with the Bayanihang Pampaaralan (BP) hosted an Academe-Industry Consultative Conference on Senior High School (SHS) Work Immersion, bringing together educational institutions and various industries to come to share agreement on how the work immersion should be conducted.

 According to Silvestre Bello, The TWG will coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in developing a policy that ensures skill acquisition without compromising the protection and safety of SHS students in implementing the K to 12 Work Immersion Program, DOLE, DepEd and TESDA will jointly promulgate the policy, subject to consultation with relevant stakeholders. (2016) and Dr. Danilo Gudelosao, assistant superintendent of DepEd Cebu City School Division, (2017) said that the work immersion partner institution Supervisor should be the one to supervise the students during the said immersion. Based on Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Labor Advisory No. 9 students are allowed to immerse themselves in work place between 8:00 am until 5:00 pm every day for a minimum of 80 hours or a maximum of 240 hours per term. Dole has implemented Department Order No. 149 which forbids all senior high student engaging in this types of work immersions: mining, construction, transportation, waste management, water supply, forestry and logging, security and investigation,

8 manufacturing ( e.g. tobacco, alcohol beverages), farm-related work, sales and services and industry, integrated-science-related work, including as personal and protective workers. In relation to Republic Act ( R.A.) 9231 or the Special Protection of Children  Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

The Department of Social Welfare and development (DSWD) has emphasize the need for each institution to have their own child protection policy that demonstrate a commitment to safeguard children from harm. Ms. Maricel Madamba a social welfare officer of DSWD state that without the organizations Child Protection Policy, it would be really hard to conduct a check-and- balance as to whether there are abuses or not.

 According to the Executive Department of Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) Dr. Reynaldo Laguna pointed out the need for the academe and the industry to have a sit- down to understand the standards required by the industry and also for the teachers to immerse themselves in the students given workplace to have a better understanding on working conditions and environment.

CHAPTER III Methodology

This chapter outlined the methods and procedures of the study. This chapter also refer to the design for data collection and data analysis. Research design

This is a qualitative study which employed a phenomenological research design using naturalistic approach to gather relevant data.. The naturalistic approach concerns itself with understanding and interpreting meanings that the participants provided. The said research design aim to understand and interpret the meaning and emotions that underlie everyday action of people who were affected and how it affect them especially the experience provided. Research Locale This study was conducted at Palo National High School. The researcher choose the locale in Cavite West Palo, Leyte first it fits in realization of it’s objectives. Second , it will be the a great advantage for the researcher in conducting the study for it is rheir own school of academic learning. Third to limit the size of population of respondents thus, making it the best in interpreting data. Lastly, the success of the study will be beneficial not only for the researcher but for the student and the community as a whole.

10 Research Respondent The respondent of this study will be the students under Technical-Vocational strand specifically Electrical Installation and Maintenance students of Palo National High School (PNHS), Palo, Leyte. The researcher selected two students to be the participants of the study. The said student was selected using purposive sampling.

Research Data Gathering Procedure The researcher will gather a interview to the EIM- A students of Palo National High School about their lived experiences in work immersion The researcher will give a survey questioners to the respondent of EIM -A student of Palo National High School that accommodate 10 questions about his/her lived experience in work immersion and have some interview on what are the hindrance and how can they come up with the challenges in the said partner institution.

Data Analysis Procedure  A qualitative data was gathered using unstructured interview in Selected Grade 12 students was analyzed using thematic analysis, where in patterns will be identified based on the data given by the participants. Data coding will follow and lastly reducing it into themes.

5 Definition of Terms Work Immersion- K-12 curriculum existing of 80 hours of hands on experience or work simulation to the grade 12 students. Immersion- the action of immersing someone or something. Ethics- moral principles that govern a person’s behavior or conducting of an activity. Competencies- defined behaviors that provide a structured guide enabling the identification, evaluation and development of the behavior in individual employees. Curriculum- the subject comprising a course of study in a school or college.
