Description

Research Plan A. Question or Problem being addressed Petroleum-based plastics cause huge problems for the health of the planetand people alike. Derived from nasty chemicals, these plastics leach into our food and water and have been linked to various forms of cancer, disease, and infertility. Not to mention the fact that plastics are littering our oceans, taking up space in landfills, and generally polluting our planet.(www.bioplastic.com.org.) planet .(www.bioplastic.com.org.)   B. Goals/ Expected Outcomes/Hypotheses

The feasibility of this study could provide as basis for producing bioplastic materialsfrom Mango ((Mangifereindica ), Santol (Sandoricumkoetjape (Sandoricumkoetjape), ), and Mangifereindica), Banana ((Musa Musa paradisiacal ) peels. Furthermore, this study compared the use of the three fruits in the production of bioplastics in terms of its cost, durability and degradation rate. C. Procedures and Material PROCEDURAL DESIGNS

A. Plant information Data Da ta Gath Gather erin in

B. Collection of Fruit Peels Gathering of Fruit Peels from BagongLipunan

Washing of Fruit Peels

Air drying of Fruit Peels

Cutting of Fruits into smaller pieces

C. Making of Paste Gathering of Materials

Boiling of Fruit Peels for 30 mins. In 500 ml beaker

Crashing the Fruit Peels using a blender

D. Production of Plastic 3ml of HCl was added with the paste

Baking the mixture using anoven at 130°C

Strength Test

Degradation Rate Test

Collection of Fruit Peels Fruit peels will be collect at a particular fruit stand located at TeodoroArcenas Trade Center, Roxas City, Capiz. Extraction of Fruit Peels The peels of the fruits will be removed using a stainless steel knife. Then, a 500 ml beaker will be filled with distilled water and will be placed over a Bunsen burner. The peels will be boiled for 30 minutes. After the boiling process, the beaker will be removed from the Bunsen burner. Then peels will be decanted off the water to be placed on and covered with a dry gauze pad, pa d, and to be left dry for 30 minutes. Then, they will be placed in a clean 500 ml beaker. Lastly, using a blender, the peels will be pured until a fluid paste will be formed. Preparation of Treatment There were there treatments with three replications each, namely: Treatment A  –  100 grams Mango ((Mangifereindica Mangifereindica)) peels, Treatment B - 100 grams Santol ((Sandoricumkoetjape ), and Treatment C  –  100 grams Banana Sandoricumkoetjape), (Musa paradisiacal ). ). The commercially available petroleum-based plastic was used as the control in the study. Strength Test The strength of the plastic will be determine by using spring balance and determining whether or not the plastic broke.

Degradation Rate Test

After the bio plastic will be produced from Mango (Mangifereindica ), Mangifereindica), Santol ((Sandoricumkoetjape ), and Banana (Musa (Musa paradisiacal )  peels, it will be Sandoricumkoetjape), placed in an experiment table at Don Ynocencio Del Rosario Memorial School laboratory in a standard room temperature. The researchers tracked the daily changes in the appearance of bioplastics made from Mango ((Mangifereindica ), Mangifereindica), Santol ((Sandoricumkoetjape ), and Banana (Musa (Musa paradisiacal )  peels. The color Sandoricumkoetjape), and texture of the bioplasticswill be recorded daily using the bioplastic degradation rate scale based on www.bioplastics.com:

Statistical Data Analysis Procedure  As to the control dimension, this study will be using Completely Randomized Design (CRD). (Gomez, 1984) This design will be the most appropriate in this study. This will be because there were no existing environmental factors that might affect the result of the study that could not be controlled by the researchers. The statistical tools will be used in this study is Mean to determine the average scores of the results of the treatments in this study.
