KOREAN WAR VETERANS The Dept. of Defense is planning a 60th Anniversary Certificate program for Sat., July 14, 2012 at the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum in Johnston, IA. The Commission of Veteran Affairs is assisting the Museum Director to collect information about Calhoun County Korean Veterans. They are hoping to have the actual ceremony at the pool pavilion and there will be activities at the Museum that day as well including a video tape from the South Korean Government thanking the veterans. Certificates are to be presented w/pictures of the Veteran receiving the certificate. Due date for the names is June 1. What is needed is the following:

Calhoun County S.A.L.T. (Seniors & Lawmen Together)

On Friday, May 11, 2012 area senior citizens are invited to attend the Calhoun County S.A.L.T. meeting, co-sponsored by Calhoun County law enforcement departments and agencies, and Calhoun County Public Health. The meetings are both educational and social, and provide an opportunity for seniors to learn about topics which have an impact on their lives. The meeting will be at Calhoun County Public Health in Rockwell City. A Public Health nurse will be available at 9:00 AM to provide free blood pressure checks; the meeting will begin at 9:30 AM. Refreshments will be served. The educational program will feature Shelly Schossow and the Healthy Homes program which looks at various health and safety risks in a home such as radon, carbon monoxide, lead based paint, and moisture problems. Many of these are common in Calhoun County and a visit will help trouble shoot and problem solve issues that many have. All S.A.L.T. meetings are free and open to any older adult. No reservations are required.
