“The ancestor of every action is a thought”. – Emerson.
The Masters Section Usui received all the attunements in one go and he subsequently, for a time, passed on all of his knowledge to his pupils in one session. Since then the presentation of Reiki has changed a little. Mrs Takata came up with the idea of charging $10,000 for the Master attunement. Then some of Mrs Takata’s students came up with the idea of introducing a waiting time between attunements.

Reiki energy vibrates at its own frequency and is guided by the higher God consciousness. That much remains unchanged. The rest is style, personal choice and presentation. In other words there is no right or wrong way with Reiki. We, as you already know, decided to ‘attune’ people to the Reiki energy in the very same way in which Dr Usui was ‘attuned’ and, consequently, we gave, and continue to give, all of the ‘attunements’ and information in one session too. We came to this way of working as being the right way for us to ‘pass on’ Reiki quite intuitively. It just seemed to be the natural progression of our own on-going Reiki development. You, of course, are free to ‘teach’ Reiki in whatever way works best for you. If separating it into three parts again feels like the best way forward for you then please do so. You will very soon be (or have already become) an Independent Reiki Master, and the accent is very much on the word Independent… Just follow your Reiki intuition; it will never let you down.

The Usui Master Symbol Dai Koo Myo
The sacred name of the symbol is DAI KOO MYO. This is pronounced as DIE-KOH-ME-OH. The Usui Master Symbol is used for self-empowerment, and attunements. It connects with the divinity that is at the inner core of each of us, and brings the Universal Energy, right into that space. 5
The symbol is translated variously as, Treasure house of the great beaming light; Great Being of the Universe shine on me, be my friend; and by Mrs Takata as Praise be to the great Universal light of transcendental wisdom. In essence the Master symbol transforms the person invoking it, into the treasure house, bringing great power and, also, great responsibility. Some Reiki Masters teach that the symbol is for Master attunements only. Others use it for attuning all degrees. Some Reiki Masters teach that it may be used in healing, others that to use it for healing another means to take on responsibility for the healing of the person in question. We use it for everything, and we don’t believe that you take on anyone’s responsibility for anything. Ultimately it is up to the individual to own their ‘Mastership’ and in so doing make the symbol their own - exploring all possibilities for its use. As with all Reiki symbols the energy of the Master symbol is accessed by drawing out its form and saying its sacred name three times. If circumstances permit, it is always best to draw the symbol out in the air, at a size that feels comfortable to you, whilst saying its sacred name aloud. You can use any of the following three ways for drawing it out with the hand. One is to keep the hand flat with the fingers together and imagine the energy streaming out from the palm chakra. Another is to cone all five fingers together using them as a point to direct the energy.
6
The third is to just use the middle or fire finger and imagine the Reiki energy issuing from it like a laser beam If you find that it is sometimes impractical to flamboyantly draw the symbol out in the air with your hands, it can be traced, more discretely, with the tip of the nose or even the tongue. It can even be visualised and projected mentally, line by line, or as a complete entity. If you would like to visualise it in colour Violet Light is widely accepted as being the most suitable but Gold, Blue, Purple or any of the “higher colours” are also okay. Of course, if you are drawing the symbol discretely, you only have to say the sacred name in your mind. The Usui Master symbol creates a powerful channel of energy, and can be used to empower anything… Situations, objects, or personal growth and development. It can also be used to cleanse and bless. When it is used the Master symbol is placed before all other symbols. However, to drive the intent, you can cover the Master symbol with the Power symbol.
Reiki Attunements Reiki attunements are a powerful spiritual initiation - they are what is at the heart of Reiki.
7
The attunement energy is ‘Divinely’ inspired, and originates from the Divine Source itself - by whatever name you may wish to call it. We, as you probably already know, prefer the term God. The following procedures are basic methods for Reiki 1, Reiki 2 and Reiki Master. We are going to give them to you as if you are doing all the initiations separately. This way you will have the choice of whether to continue doing individual classes or combine them all in to one class, as we do. Prepare for all attunements by asking for the help of your Reiki guides, who are always there for you now, and state the intention for this to be either a Reiki Level 1, Level 2 or Master initiation, as appropriate. Draw the Usui Master and Power symbols on the palms of each of your hands, and then draw the Power symbol down the front of your body and over each of your chakras to open yourself to the energy. Then to clear the room go to each side of the room in turn and draw the Power Symbol. Repeat this procedure using the Mental/Emotional Symbol and then repeat again with the Power Symbol. Finally, draw the four Usui Reiki symbols in the centre of the room intending their energy to bless and fill the space. This ritual is best performed prior to the commencement of the class. Initiates are seated in an upright chair for all attunements; hands are held together in the prayer

position at the heart chakra, moving them up to the crown chakra and back to the heart, as directed. The level 1 Attunement is given in four stages; the Level 2 and Master attunements are both one-stage attunements.
9
First Degree Attunement The level 1 attunement is given in four stages. The attunements place the sacred symbols in the crown chakra, third eye and palm chakras. This has the effect of raising the vibrations of the energy in the physical body. STAGE 1 ¾ Stand behind the student and place both hands over the top of the student’s head to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Trace the Usui Master Symbol over the student’s head, using your dominant hand as a guide. Picture the symbol moving into the crown chakra through the head to the base of the brain. As you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Once each at the crown chakra, the third eye chakra and at the cerebral cortex. ¾ Squeeze the student’s left shoulder as a signal to raise the hands to the top of the head. ¾ Hold the student’s hands with your non-dominant hand and draw the Power Symbol in the air above them with your free hand. Picture the symbol moving into the hands, through the crown chakra to the base of the brain. As you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Once each at the fingertips, the crown chakra and at the cerebral cortex. ¾ Return the students hands to the original position in front of the heart. ¾ Move to the front of the student and open the student’s hands out flat with your non-dominant hand.
10
¾ Trace the Power Symbol in front of the student’s third eye with your free hand and imagine shooting the symbol into the student’s third eye using your fire finger (middle finger). Silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times in time with the shooting motion. ¾ Trace the Power Symbol above each of the student’s palms. Picture the symbol moving into each hand as you silently chant the sacred name three times, whilst using a tapping motion to the palm chakras to drive the symbol into the hands. ¾ Replace the student’s hands together in front of the heart and then using one breath, blow from the student’s hands, downwards to the solar plexus, then upwards through the hands to the crown chakra, back down through the hands to the solar plexus, and then back to the hands. ¾ Move behind the student and place your hands on the student’s shoulders. Look down through the crown chakra to the student's heart chakra, and make a positive affirmation - [eg. You are now a confident and successful Reiki I healer.] State the affirmation, silently, three times and intend that it be accepted by the student’s sub-conscious mind. ¾ Place your thumbs at the base of the student’s skull and say silently to your-self, “ I now seal this process with Divine Love and Wisdom”. Picture a door with the Power Symbol on it being closed and locked. Intend that the process is complete and that the student is now connected directly to the Reiki source. ¾ Place your hands on the student’s shoulders and say silently to yourself, “We are both blessed by this process”. ¾ Move to the front of the student, remove the hands from the heart position, and lay them palm-down on the thighs. In the case of group attunements this step is left until all students have been attuned.
11
STAGE 2 ¾ Stand behind the student, and place both hands over the top of the student’s head, to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Trace the Usui Master Symbol over the student’s head using your dominant hand as a guide. Picture the symbol moving into the crown chakra through the head to the base of the brain. As you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times: once each at the crown chakra, the third eye chakra and at the cerebral cortex. ¾ Repeat the previous step using the Distance Symbol. ¾ Squeeze the student’s left shoulder as a signal to raise the hands to the top of the head ¾ Hold the student’s hands with your non-dominant hand and draw the Power Symbol in the air above them with your free hand. Picture the symbol moving into the hands, through the crown chakra to the base of the brain. As you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Once each at the fingertips, the crown chakra and at the cerebral cortex ¾ Return the student’s hands to the original position at the heart. ¾ Move to the front of the student and open the student’s hands out flat, with your non-dominant hand held underneath. ¾ Trace the Power Symbol in front of the student’s third eye, with your free hand and imagine shooting the symbol into the student’s third eye using your fire finger. Silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times, in time with the shooting motion, and visualise the symbol moving into the student’s third eye. ¾ Repeat the previous step using the Distance Symbol.

Look down through the crown chakra to the student’s heart chakra, and make a positive affirmation - [e.g. You are now a confident and successful Reiki I healer.] State the affirmation, silently, three times and intend that it be accepted by the student’s subconscious mind. ¾ Place your thumbs at the base of the student’s skull and say to yourself, “I now seal this process with Divine Love and Wisdom”. Picture a door with the Power Symbol on it being closed and locked. Intend that the process is complete and that the student is now connected directly to the Reiki source. ¾ Place your hands on the student’s shoulders and say silently to yourself, “We are both blessed by this process”. ¾ Move to the front of the student, remove the hands from the heart position and lay them palms-down on the thighs. In the case of group attunements this step is left until all students have been attuned.

Second Degree Attunement At Level 2 there is only one attunement. The Level 2 attunement accesses the etheric body more directly, through the symbols. As well as empowering the symbols for the student, it tends to stimulate psychic development, and intuitive sensitivity. ¾ Stand behind the student and place both hands over the top of the student’s head, to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Trace the Usui Master Symbol over the student’s head using your dominant hand as a guide. Picture the symbol moving into the crown chakra through the head to the base of the brain. As you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Usui Master Attunement As at Level 2 there is only one attunement for the Master Level. The Master Level attunement is a confirmation of the student’s commitment to his or her own process of evolution. It is also hoped that the student will go on to teach the Reiki energy to others, thereby helping to raise the vibrations of many. ¾ Stand behind the student, and place both hands over the top of the student’s head, to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Squeeze the student’s left shoulder as a signal to raise the hands to the top of the head. ¾ Hold the student’s hands with your non-dominant hand and draw the Usui Master Symbol in the air above them with your free hand. ¾ Move to the front of the student, remove the hands from the heart position, and lay them palms down on the student’s thighs. In the case of a group attunement this step is left until all the students have been attuned. Following any Reiki attunement there is a period of time, normally 3 to 4 weeks during which cleansing can be acute. This may be minimised by the avoidance of red meat, tobacco, alcohol or other chemical substances for at least three days prior to the attunement. Cleansing takes place on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The more the Reiki energy is allowed to flow, the more beneficial the cleansing; hands on Reiki can be particularly comforting at this time. Drinking water is very important, as it will assist the process, and help to minimise the discomfort of releasing toxins.

The Tibetan Reiki Symbols Although the symbols given are called Tibetan, their true origins are not known. The information available through our lineage, concerning these symbols, is that they came to the West via Reiki Masters who were initiated into them whilst studying in China and Asia. It is possible that the symbols are shamanic. This presents no conflict with Reiki since shamanic practices have provided spiritual initiation for as long as has been known. Shamanic traditions are oral and experiential, and provide personal growth through the facing and working through of our fears. Often this means facing the fear of death, and letting go of personal control. (Just like Usui on Mount Koriyama). Although the symbols can be used as a standalone Reiki system we believe that this is restrictive and limiting. It is in their utilisation alongside other techniques that their greatest benefit may be discovered. That the symbols work is beyond doubt, but they are not traditional Usui symbols. Masters will have to gauge for themselves the power of these symbols and decide what part, if any, they are to play in the Reiki process.
24
The Tibetan Master Symbol Dai Ko Mio The Tibetan Master symbol invokes a different vibration from that of the Usui Master Symbol. It is unlikely that the origin of the symbol is strictly Tibetan, indeed as with all mystic symbols, the notion of an origin is not really appropriate because they are multidimensional. This symbol comes to the West via Reiki Masters who were initiated in its application by way of China and Asia, and is passed on through the lineage of Reiki Master William L Rand. A comprehensive interpretation of the symbol is not available, but the lightning flash may be thought of as a variation of the Raku or Fire Serpent symbol. This is seen acting in the space between a double spiral formed by the divine and the physically manifest, thus linking the two. The symbol has a powerful clearing and cleansing property and may be used to clear any blockages to the Usui attunement energy. It dispels negative energy. Rooms, situations, and people may be cleansed of negative energy using this symbol. Some Reiki Masters teach the use of this symbol as an integral part of the attunement process, using kidney-breathing techniques to empower it. Others double the number of zig-zags, and call it by a different
25
name, Motor Zanon, using it in healing situations to counteract viruses. Through a process of exploration and discovery the individual will find other uses for this symbol. Apart from the control of others, which is impossible, the uses are unlimited. This symbol is also called Dai Ko Mio. That the spelling is slightly different from the Usui Master symbol may be an attempt to indicate that this symbol invokes energy of a different vibration. However the pronunciation is identical. Indeed the term Dai Ko Mio seems to be a generic name for a Master Symbol relating to any esoteric metaphysical practice. According to the teaching of Reiki Master Simon Treselyan the Tibetan Dai Ko Mio shows similarities with Tibetan Domo, or ritual practices for the clearing of negative energies. The primary association to be made in relation to this is to see a horn, created by the two lines emanating from the spiral, which forms a receptacle for the positive lightning flash to dispel any negative energy into. This negativity would then be spiralled away to infinity for transformation in the energy field of the universe. The lightning flash is also found in cabalistic empowerment ritual. As already stated the Tibetan Dai Ko Mio is primarily used as a cleanser, and clears any blockages to the Usui attunement energy. Thus it has a major application in the attunement process. It invokes a powerful clearing energy, of itself, and this may be put to use in any situation, which demands a high integrity clearing.
26
The Fire Serpent Symbol This symbol is often referred to by two other names: the FIRE DRAGON and RAKU. The symbol seems to represent the Life Force with the loops of the serpent moving through the seven chakras, ending in a spiral at the base, which is the seat of the Kundalini energy. The Fire Serpent can be used to nicely balance the chakra energies, which is useful both in healing situations, and prior to the attunements. A note of caution: some believe that drawing the symbol in reverse, up the spine, can result in unpleasant effects from disturbing the Kundalini energy of the root chakra. As with the Dai Ko Mio, it is unlikely that the origin of this symbol is strictly Tibetan, although it is often referred to as such. It comes to the West via Reiki Masters who were initiated into its application by way of China and Asia, thence through the lineage of Reiki Master William L Rand. Together with the Tibetan Dai Ko Mio this symbol seems to create another means of accessing the Great Spirit.
27
The serpent symbol resembles Asian correspondences to the raising of the Kundalini. The seven loops of the symbol relate to the seven major chakras in the body, spiralling into the base chakra, which is the seat of the Kundalini energy. Reiki Master Simon Treselyan suggests that the symbol is only one half of a double interwoven element, and that if the symbol is duplicated in reverse it provides for more balance in the energy. It would also then resemble the caduceus, and the DNA double helix. Reiki Master Diane Stein, suggests that this symbol is a variant form of the Raku symbol which appears as the lightning flash of the Tibetan Dai Ko Mio, and that this is the symbol that grounds the Reiki energy, or brings it to Earth. The symbol is used in attunements to balance chakra energies and help clear a channel for the attunement. It may also be used in clearing auras, and to balance chakras, either as part of a treatment or whenever the situation demands.
28
Breath Techniques… The Dragon’s Breath Whilst intention is the most important element in passing attunements, the breath is fundamental to the process. Consequently, attention to breath technique is recommended [some ‘teachers’ say it is vital]. What follows is a description of breath techniques, which have particular application in the passing of Reiki attunements. Throughout these breathing practices the subtle energy circuit of the body is maintained in a closed condition as follows:¾ The Hui Yin point is held in contraction. The Hui Yin is the pressure point found at the perineum; it lies between the anus and the vagina in women and between the anus and the scrotum in men. Contracting the Hui Yin and holding it with comfort may take a little practice. Begin by contracting twenty times, and then holding as long as possible. Eventually it will be possible to close the Hui Yin simply by thinking it closed. ¾ The tip of the tongue is placed on the alveolar ridge [just behind but not on the upper front teeth]. The purpose of closing the body’s primary energy circuit, in this way, is to keep the initiation energy from leaking away prior to passing it to the initiate. Reiki Master Kathleen Milner asserts that Hawayo Takata taught these contraction procedures to all her Master initiates, but that not all were taught the breath techniques that follow.
29
Kidney Breathing: This is the process of breathing the Raku energy into the body. The kidneys are one of two key energy centres in the body [the other is the eyes]. ¾ Focus above your crown and visualise a deep cobalt blue mist. Breathing through your mouth, inhale deeply, expanding your lower abdomen. Mentally direct the blue mist into your kidneys. ¾ Breathe out a white mist. This can be practised by placing the hands over the kidneys, and with each inhalation feel the hands lifting off; with every exhalation allow the hands to return to the body. After practising for a while the energy will be felt without having to use the hands.
Violet Breath: ¾ Focus above your crown and visualise a white misty light. Breathing through your mouth, inhale deeply, expanding your lower abdomen. Mentally, see this white misty light enter your crown chakra and flow through your tongue, down the front of your body (Functional Channel), to collect at the Hui Yin point. ¾ Hold your breath and see the white light rise up your spine (Governor Channel) to the centre of your head. ¾ Imagine the white mist inside your head turning to blue and beginning to spin with a clockwise rotation. As it spins see it turn from Blue to Violet or Royal Purple. It may then turn to Gold automatically, but this is not a conscious part of this process. [In the lineage of Reiki Master William L. Rand, Violet is the final step; however, Reiki Master Kathleen Milner teaches that the Gold step is an essential part of this breathing 30

Attunements Using the Tibetan Symbols Prepare for all attunements by asking for the help of your Reiki guides, and state the intention for this to be a Reiki Level 1, Level 2 or Master, as appropriate. Draw the Usui Master, Tibetan Master and Power symbols on the palms of each of your hands, and then draw the Power symbol down the front of your body and over each of your chakras to open yourself to the energy. Then to clear the room go to each side of the room in turn and draw the Power Symbol. Repeat this procedure using the Mental/Emotional Symbol and then repeat again with the Power Symbol. Finally, draw all of the Reiki symbols into the room intending their energy to bless and fill the space. This ritual is best performed prior to the commencement of the class. Initiates are seated in an upright chair for all attunements; hands are held together in the prayer position at the heart chakra, moving to the crown chakra and back to the heart, as directed. The level 1 Attunement is given in four stages; the Level 2 and Master attunements are both one-stage attunements. The Hui Yin contraction is held, with the tongue to the alveolar ridge, for the duration of the transmission of the attunements. This is released when the ceremony is complete.
32
First Degree Attunement Stage 1 ¾ Working from behind the student, draw the Fire Serpent symbol, from the top of the initiate’s head to the base of the spine. ¾ Remain behind the student and place both hands over the top of the student’s head to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Take three blue Kidney Breaths, and create the Violet Breath. Use the Violet Breath to transfer the Tibetan Master symbol from your brain to the initiate; visualise the symbol moving through their crown chakra to lodge at the base of the brain. As you do this silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times: once each at the crown chakra, the third eye chakra and at the cerebral cortex. ¾ Trace the Usui Master Symbol over the student’s head, using your dominant hand as a guide picture the symbol moving into the crown chakra through the head to the base of the brain. As you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Once each at the crown chakra, the third eye chakra and at the cerebral cortex. ¾ Squeeze the student’s left shoulder, with your dominant hand, as a signal to raise the hands to the top of the head ¾ Hold the student’s hands with your non-dominant hand and draw the Power Symbol in the air above them with your free hand. Picture the symbol moving into the hands, through the crown chakra to the base of the brain. As you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Once each at the fingertips, the crown chakra and at the cerebral cortex.
33
¾ Return the students hands to the original position in front of the heart. ¾ Move to the front of the student and open the student’s hands out flat with your non-dominant hand underneath. ¾ Trace the Power Symbol in front of the student’s third eye with your free hand, and imagine shooting the symbol into the student’s third eye using your fire finger. Silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times in time with the shooting motion, and visualise the symbol moving into the student’s third eye. ¾ Trace the Power Symbol above each of the student’s palms. Picture the symbol moving into each hand as you silently chant the sacred name three times, whilst using a tapping motion to the palm chakras to drive the symbol into the hands. ¾ Replace the student’s hands together in front of the heart then blow. Move the breath from the student’s hands, downwards to the solar plexus, then upwards through the hands to the crown chakra, back down through the hands to the solar plexus, and then back to the hands. ¾ Place your thumbs at the base of the student’s skull and say silently to yourself, “I now seal this process with Divine Love and Wisdom”. Picture a door with the Power Symbol on it being closed and locked. Intend that the process is complete and that the student is now connected directly to the Reiki source. ¾ Place your hands on the student’s shoulders and say silently to yourself, “We are both blessed by this process”.
34
¾ Move to the front of the student, remove the hands from the heart position, and lay them palms-down on the thighs. In the case of group attunements this step is left until all students have been attuned.
Stage 2 ¾ Working from behind the student, draw the Fire Serpent symbol from the top of the initiate’s head to the base of the spine. ¾ Remain behind the student, and place both hands over the top of the student’s head, to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Take three blue Kidney Breaths, and create the Violet Breath. Second Degree Attunement At Level 2 there is only one attunement. The Level 2 attunement accesses the etheric body more directly, through the symbols. As well as empowering the symbols for the student, it tends to stimulate psychic development, and intuitive sensitivity. ¾ Working from behind the student, draw the Fire Serpent symbol from the top of the initiate’s head to the base of the spine. ¾ Remain behind the student and place both hands over the top of the student’s head, to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Take three blue Kidney Breaths, and create the Violet Breath. Tibetan Master Attunement There is only one attunement for the Master Level. The Master Level attunement is a confirmation of the student’s commitment to his or her own process of evolution. It is also hoped that the student will go on to transmit the Reiki energy to others, thereby helping to raise the vibrations of many. ¾ Working from behind the student, draw the Fire Serpent symbol from the top of the initiate’s head to the base of the spine. ¾ Remain behind the student, and place both hands over the top of the student’s head, to gain rapport and tune in. ¾ Take three blue Kidney Breaths, and create the Violet Breath. In the case of a group attunement this step is left until all the students have been attuned. As written before with the Usui attunements: following any Reiki attunement there is a period of time, normally 3 to 4 weeks during which cleansing can be acute. This may be minimised by the avoidance of red meat, tobacco, alcohol or other chemical substances for at least three days prior to the attunement.
47
Cleansing takes place on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The more the Reiki energy is allowed to flow, the more beneficial the cleansing; hands on Reiki can be particularly comforting at this time. Drinking water is important at this time in particular, as it will assist the process, and help to minimise the discomfort of releasing toxins.
Self-Attunement & Empowerment Exercises Self Attunement. ¾ Assume a relaxed meditative position, with your hands over your heart. ¾ Tune in to the Reiki energy; visualise a shaft of golden light connecting you to the Source, and to the planet centre. ¾ Call upon your guides, and state your intention. ¾ Leave your non-dominant hand resting on your heart, and raise your dominant hand above your crown. ¾ Trace the Tibetan Master symbol above your crown chakra and chant its sacred name three times, then with a deep breath draw the symbol into your body, through your crown, past your third eye and throat, to your heart chakra. ¾ Repeat the previous step using the Fire Serpent symbol. ¾ Repeat the previous step using the Usui Master symbol. ¾ Repeat the previous step using the Distance symbol. ¾ Repeat the previous step using the Mental/Emotional symbol. ¾ Repeat the previous step using the Power symbol.
48
¾ Replace your dominant hand over your nondominant hand, at your heart and breathe. ¾ Return your awareness to the physical: through your breathing remember your body, feel your feet on the floor, and your weight in the chair. When you are ready open your eyes.
The Master Empowerment Exercise ¾ Stand with feet shoulder width apart, and facing the Sun, the Moon, or the dawn, as appropriate. ¾ Draw the Usui Master symbol on each palm and, using a tapping motion, drive the symbol into the hands. ¾ Draw the Power symbol on each palm, and using a tapping motion, drive the symbol into the hands. ¾ Place both hands on your heart chakra and bring your attention into your centre. ¾ Move your hands into the prayer position, at your heart chakra. ¾ Visualise the Usui Master symbol and chanting its sacred name three times, move your hands upwards over the crown chakra and outwards in a circular fashion to return to the prayer position at your heart chakra. ¾ Place one hand over the other, with palms facing downwards, and push the palms to the base chakra level whilst visualising the Power Symbol. Make the following statement, aloud if possible: I establish my Divine presence on Earth. ¾ Repeat the whole sequence two more times, to make a total of three times.
49
Self-Energising Exercise This technique uses the Tibetan Master symbol and produces a charge of energy. It can be particularly useful for reviving oneself, and others, from tiring situations. ¾ Stand up straight. ¾ Locate the energy point on the shoulder blade around four inches [10cm] in from the shoulder joint. ¾ Massage this point, with a steady finger pressure, using a clockwise motion for about one minute. At the same time visualise the Tibetan Master symbol and continue to chant its sacred name in mantra fashion. ¾ Repeat this process on the other shoulder. ¾ Repeat the whole process another two times, so that it has been performed a total of three times. ¾ Make a fist with the dominant hand, and gently tap the centre of the chest for about one minute. Once again visualise the Tibetan Master symbol whilst doing this, and chant its sacred name. This final step stimulates the thymus gland, which aids the energising process.
Self-Empowerment Exercise This exercise is not a part of Reiki practice, but its form is recognised within the White Eagle Lodge as the Tree of Life, and in martial arts practices as Drawing Down the Sun. The intention of the exercise is to create a bridge between the Earth and the Spiritual Plane using the body. Drawing the Earth energy upwards and dispersing it outwards empowers each individual
50
chakra. The exercise makes a good starting point for a workshop class. All breathing is through the mouth. ¾ Stand with feet shoulder width apart, and facing the Sun, the Moon, or the dawn, as appropriate. ¾ Raise your arm over your head, and form a triangle with the forefingers and thumbs of both hands. Use this triangle to frame the Sun [or Moon], and focus its energy into your third eye. ¾ Bend down, and allow your arms to drop in front of you dragging the knuckles on the ground. ¾ Then straighten up whilst taking a deep breath. As you do, intend that you are drawing power from the Earth with your breath, pulling the energy up through your chakras. ¾ As your hands reach your jaw, exhale forcefully, blowing into your palms. Continue to move your hands upward beyond your crown chakra and outwards in circular fashion. ¾ Take an in-breath as you bring your hands to your heart chakra level. Place one hand over the other, with palms facing downwards, and push the palms to the base chakra level whilst blowing out gently. ¾ Repeat the whole four-step sequence six more times, to make a total of seven times, once for each chakra.
The Healing Attunement By giving a healing attunement it is possible to speed-up a healing situation, without attuning the recipient as a Reiki channel. The form of this attunement is similar to the initiation attunements, however in this case none of the symbols are placed into the recipient’s hands. The recipient sits upright, in a straight-backed chair, with feet firmly on the floor and hands resting, palms down, on the thighs. The recipient’s eyes are to

remain closed throughout, and the attention should be focused on the problem to be addressed. Draw the Usui Master and Power symbols on the palms of each of your hands, then draw the Power symbol down the front of your body and over each of your chakras to open yourself to the energy. Cleanse and clear the room as shown above in connection with the Usui attunements. Finally, draw all of the Reiki symbols into the room intending their energy to bless and fill the space. This ritual may be performed prior to the commencement of the session. Stand behind the client/recipient to prepare for the attunement. Say a silent prayer asking for the help of the Reiki guides, and personal Spirit guides, and state the intention for this to be a healing attunement. Contract the Hui Yin, hold the tongue to the alveolar ridge, and proceed as follows: ¾ Working from behind, draw the Fire Serpent symbol from the top of the recipient’s head to the base of the spine. ¾ Place both hands over the top of the recipient’s head, to gain energetic rapport and tune in. ¾ Take three Blue Kidney Breaths, and create the Violet Breath. Use the Violet Breath to transfer the Tibetan Master symbol from your brain to the initiate; visualise the symbol moving through their crown chakra and down into the heart chakra. As you move the symbol into the recipient’s body silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Once each at the crown chakra, the throat chakra and at the heart chakra. ¾ Draw the Usui Master Symbol above the recipient’s crown chakra with your dominant hand. Picture the symbol moving through the crown chakra and into the body, to lodge at the heart chakra. Guide it with your hand, and as you follow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred

name of the symbol three times: once each at the crown chakra the throat and the heart chakra. Repeat the previous step Distance Symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Mental/Emotional Symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Power Symbol. Move to the front and trace the Tibetan Master Symbol over the recipient’s crown. Using your dominant hand as a guide, move the symbol down to the recipient’s solar plexus. As you do this, silently chant the sacred name of the symbol three times. Once at the crown, once at the throat area, and once at the solar plexus. Then gently pretend to tap the top of the recipient’s head three times with your fingertips. (Do not actually touch the top of the head, or your client will jump off the chair!) Repeat the previous step using the Usui Master Symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Distance Symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Mental/Emotional Symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Power Symbol. Blow, from the recipient’s solar plexus, up the body to the crown chakra back down to the solar plexus and then up to the crown again. As you blow, use your hands to guide the energy up, down then up again and have the clear intention of sweeping any negative energy out to the light. If the client/recipient has described a shape, or a colour, visualise this moving out to the light. Move to the back and place your hands on the recipient’s shoulders. Look down through the crown chakra to the heart chakra looking for a soft pink glow, and make a positive affirmation [eg. You are now completely healed with Divine Love.] State the affirmation, silently, three times and intend that it be accepted by the recipient’s sub-conscious mind.
53
¾ Place your dominant hand at the back of the client’s heart chakra and the non-dominant hand on the nearest shoulder, and say to yourself, “I now seal this process with Divine Love and Wisdom”. Picture a door with the Power Symbol on it being closed and locked over the heart chakra. Intend that the process is sealed and complete. ¾ Place your hands on the recipient’s shoulders and say silently to yourself, “We are both blessed in this process”. ¾ Move to the front and hold your hands at waist level, with the palms facing the client. Inhale, hold the breath briefly, and as you exhale release the Hui Yin. ¾ Ask the recipient to breathe slowly and deeply, and to open their eyes. ¾ Ask if the negative condition is still there, or if it has changed in any way. If more work is required use a standard Reiki session.

How to draw the Symbols. The Usui Reiki Master Symbol
The box containing the V on its side and the part box containing the Z, at the bottom of the symbol can be drawn in any manner you wish. Note that the box on the left is a full box and the box on the right is like a shed. So it becomes a box with a sideways V and a shed with a Z
