Precautions to be taken for 400kV Busbar protection test for 1 ½ Breaker System and the Testing Procedure: 1. Check the Set file (.mdb) and the single line diagram drawn matches the Primary equipment as it is located in the Substation (such as location of CT’s, Isolators and Breakers). 2. Check the Zone assignment in the set file. 3. Check the Direct Trip Circuit diagram as for Busbar fault the Direct Trip signal should be routed through the Tie Breaker NC contact (i.e., When Tie breaker is closed the DT should not be sent to remote end breaker in case of a BusBar trip), and for the Breaker failure fault the DT should be direct without any interlock. 4. To check the BusZone-1, Select a particular bay which is connected to the Bus-1, e.g., consider the 401 bay open the breaker, isolate the isolator 401-89A and 401-89B and let the line remain charged through Tie bay. Likewise open the entire Bus-1 connected bays, now the Bus-1 is isolated from the supply. 5. As an additional precaution isolate the Output connector of REB500 bay units of Bus-2 connected bays and Tie Bays if required, normally not required.

6. Isolate the CT secondary of the REB500 bay unit (e.g.,401 bay) from the switchyard side by opening the terminal block after shorting the switchyard side with banana Pins as opening the CT secondary is dangerous. 7. For testing purpose if required temporarily disable the Breaker failure protection in the case of testing the BusBar Protection. 8. Connect the test kit and set ready for injection. 9. Close the 401-Q52 Breaker which is to be tested and if required close all Bus zone-1 Bay breakers to ensure the tripping. The CT assignment to the bus zone is through CB position. 10. Check the Ikmin Busbar setting, the differential current alarm and the time delay Setting. 11. Now inject differential current normally 10% of Ikmin in R-phase gradually and check the Bay unit HMI measurement for the current reading in R and N. analogue channel. 12. Check the differential current alarm after the set time delay and note the events locally in the Central Unit and also in the SAS and record it. Likewise inject in Y and B-phase. 13. Now inject current slightly more than the Ikmin setting instantly with injection delay of 50ms only in order to avoid the operation of BFP if it is set to “ON”, now the all Buszone-1 breakers trip instantaneously now check the events, Disturbance records, SAS and record the same. Now repeat the same for the Y and B-phases respectively. 14. Now normalise the Bus zone-1 bay units and repeat the same for Bus zone-2 from point no.4.

Precautions to be taken for 220kV Busbar protection test for Double Bus with Transfer bus System and the Testing Procedure: 1. Check the Set file (.mdb) and the single line diagram drawn matches the Primary equipment as it is located in the Substation (such as location of CT’s, Isolators and Breakers). 2. Check the Zone assignment in the set file. 3. Check the Direct Trip Circuit diagram as for Busbar fault, Breaker failure protection and End fault Protection the Direct Trip signal will be sent directly to the remote end. 4. To check the Buszone-1, Shift all the bays connected to Bus-1 to Bus-2, Open the Buscoupler bay and ensure the Bus-1 is de-energised. 5. As an additional precaution isolate the Output connector of REB500 bay units of all other feeders, which are connected to Bus-2, normally not required. 6. Isolate the CT secondary of the REB500 bay unit (e.g.,203 bay) from the switchyard side by opening the terminal block after shorting the switchyard side with banana Pins as opening the CT secondary is dangerous. 7. For testing purpose temporarily disable the Breaker failure protection and End fault Protection in the case of testing the BusBar Protection. 8. Connect the test kit and set ready for injection. 9. Close the 89A isolator of the feeder bay which is to be tested (e.g., 203 Bay), in 220kV Zone assignment is through isolator position. 10. Check the Ikmin Busbar setting, the differential current alarm and the time delay Setting. 11. Now inject differential current normally 10% of Ikmin in R-phase gradually and check the Bay unit HMI measurement for the current reading in R and N analogue channel. 12. Check the differential current alarm after the set time delay and note the events locally in the Central Unit and also in the SAS and record it. Likewise inject in Y and B-phases. 13. Now inject current slightly more than the Ikmin setting instantly with injection delay of 50ms only now all the Buszone-1 feeders will be issued trip instantaneously, now check the events, Disturbance records, SAS and record the same. Now repeat the same for the Y and B-phases respectively. 14. Now close the bus coupler bay and shift all the feeders to Bus-1 and close the 89B isolator of the feeder to be tested (e.g., 203 bay) so the feeder current is assigned to Buszone-2 now repeat the same for Bus zone-2 from point no.4. 15. After testing BBP, enable the BFP in the feeder and inject the Bus fault current for 140ms and check the re-trip issued to the own bay breaker note the events locally in the Central Unit and also in the SAS and record it. Likewise inject in Y and B-phase. 16. Now inject the Bus fault for 240ms and check for the BFP-trip to all the bays which are connected to Buszone-2, note the events locally in the Central Unit and also in the SAS and record it. Repeat the same for Y and B phases respectively with external initiation also. 17. Now enable the EFP to bay to be tested (e.g., 203 bay), open the breaker inject set fault current for the set time and check the remote tripping. 18. Now normalise the Busbar scheme.
