For those who know that Jah is The Most High, and seek no Validation. King Selassie I, to all four Corners of the Earth. Jah, Rastafari.

Jah Love.

My hope is that you seek to uplift yourself in spiritual truth and to embrace a faith that increases patience, love, wisdom, “overstanding,” spiritual awareness, & self-centeredness. May the “Jewels of Jah” be revealed to you through the Gift of the Rastafari way of life.

Blessings of Wisdom 18 My child, from your youth choose discipline, and when you have gray hair you will still find wisdom. 19 Come to her like one who plows and sows, and wait for her good harvest. For when you cultivate her you will toil but little, and soon you will eat of her produce. 20 She seems very harsh to the undisciplined; fools cannot remain with her. 21 She will be like a heavy stone to test them, and they will not delay in casting her aside. 22 For wisdom is like her name; she is not readily perceived by many. 23 Listen, my child, and accept my judgment; Do not reject my counsel. 24 Put your feet into her fetters, and your neck into her collar. 25 Bend your shoulders and carry her, and do not fret under her bonds. 26 Come to her with all your soul, and keep her ways with all your might. 27 Search out and seek, and she will become known to you; and when you get hold of her, do not let her go. 28 For at

last you will find the rest she gives, and she will be changed into joy for you. 29 Then her fetters will become for you a strong defense, and her collar a glorious robe. 30 Her yoke[c] is a golden ornament, and her bonds a purple cord. 31 You will wear her like a glorious robe, and put her on like a splendid crown. [d] 32 If you are willing, my child, you can be disciplined, and if you apply yourself you will become clever. 33 If you love to listen you will gain knowledge, and if you pay attention you will become wise. 34 Stand in the company of the elders. Who is wise? Attach yourself to such a one. 35 Be ready to listen to every godly discourse, and let no wise proverbs escape you. 36 If you see an intelligent person, rise early to visit him; let your foot wear out his doorstep. 37 Reflect on the statutes of the Lord, and meditate at all times on his commandments. It is he who will give insight to[e] your mind, and your desire for wisdom will be granted. Sirach - King James Version Bible

What is Rastafari? Rastafari is a daily celebration of African Roots and Culture. The purpose of Rastafari is to guide one to live clean and pure that a person may be deemed “fit” (by Jah) to Enter Holy Mount Zion.

What is a Rasta? A Rasta is someone who adheres to the Rastafari Livity (way of life). Rasta are “called” to carry “the light” of Jah Rastafari, and to deliver “the message” of this way of life to others. By this we can see that to embrace the Rastafari way of life is a responsibility and commitment of the heart. Beliefs of Rasta about God Rasta knows that “God” is “Jah.”. and that Jah is an “African” Spirit entity. That he is very loving, forgiving and very powerful. Rasta “know”that Jah created heaven and earth, the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, and he parted the Red Sea for the Israelites. “Jah” is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob spoken about in the scriptures of the Christian Bible. Jah “Raised up” King Selassie I as his Elect, to protect, and defend the Garden of Eden. Jah is the Creator of all living things. What is The Rastafari Livity? The Rastafari Livity is a Celebration of African Roots and Culture that honors Jah. Rasta live life daily in all things they do to honor and show love for Jah, Jah Elect, and Jah Creations. From the food

that is cooked (Ital) clean and natural, to the way Rasta wear their hair (in dreadlocks) fuss and vanity free, to the in Rasta clothing and Jewelry (Red Yellow and Green). The Rastafari Livity is a commitment of love and honour to and for Jah, the Almighty Creator of all living things all the days of a Rastafaris’ life.

4 Spiritual Duties of Rasta

Spiritual Duty #1 To show love

As Rasta it is our Job to show love. Rasta does not reject love in any form. If someone asks us to do them a favor, we do it...to show even more love. If someone wants to give a Rasta a hug we do not refuse it. Some more ways Rasta show love is by being there for our friends and family members, and spending time in and surrounded by nature, to show Jah, the creator we love and appreciate the land he has given us. As Rasta showing love is one of the ways how we honour Jah.

Spiritual Duty #2 To Live Free To live Free as Rasta is a very important part of the Livity. Rasta knows life should have no restrictions. As long as one is not “hurting life” or “killing life” one should Live as one chooses. “Freedom” in life is the basis for being one with Jah. Freedom to love and honour Jah, Freedom to Roam, freedom to spend our spiritual time as we choose... Just how Jah, the creator, intended!

Spiritual Duty #3 To be a “Servant” of Jah To fulfill the duty of Rasta as Jah servant is very simple. It means helping and loving other people. As Rasta we see ourselves as “extensions” of Jah helping hand here on earth. Rasta allows Jah to “use us” as his instruments, to provide help and hope, and assistance whenever the opportunity presents itself. Rasta always say “yes” to opening the door for others, to carrying a grocery bag, to lending money to those who ask. It is the duty of Rasta to Serve Jah by serving his creations (other people) Spiritual Duty #4 To Enter Holy Mount Zion The Purpose of the Rastafari Livity is to provide a guide for those who desire to enter Zion (heaven). Zion is where Jah, the Most High roams. There is only love, peace, light, freedom, wholeness, and Jah “light” in Zion. Only those with clean loving, Hearts can enter Zion. It is our Duty as Rasta, to follow Rastafari way of life, as our Guide.. so that our soul may have peace and rest in Holy Mount Zion.

How to Convert to Rastafari

Take this pledge once you have started your dreadlocks. Jah is watching and hearing everything we do and say. It is not difficult to notify him that you have opened yourself up to his guidance and love in your life. Simply look in the mirror and say this pledge out loud or silently to yourself. I did the same thing the same day I started my “Dreadlock Buds” I made my Vow to Jah and to myself, in front of my mirror, knowing

that to be a Rastafari is privilege and a Responsibility, and a Commitment of the Heart.

Rastafari Livity “Vow” "To be a Righteous & conscious Rasta"

“1. I as a Rasta pledge to love accept, and am proud of all parts of which I am, including my birth country and my ethnic background 2. I as a Rasta pledge not to be defined by society or any one individual 3. I as a Rasta pledge to be a creative free thinking human being

4. I pledge to have spiritual awareness, for from this I receive strength and wholeness of self 5. I as a Rasta pledge to approach all disagreements and misunderstanding with love, and over standing 6. I as a Rasta pledge to have a spiritual rebirth in the truth 7. I as a Rasta pledge that I will not seek to define or dislike others based on birth country, class, ethnicity, or skin color 8. I as a Rasta pledge to unite in love and harmony with other Rasta’s whose mission is peace love and togetherness 9. I as a Rasta pledge that my life belongs to me and is determined by the daily choices that I make 10. I as a Rasta pledge to be open to Jah Guidance and love I make this pledge in the name of Jah Rastafari, I am a Rasta from this day forward. Jah Guidance, Jah Love, One Heart, Rastafari"

Welcome to the Rastafari Livity, may the light of Jah carry you into new spiritual heights!

"To be a Righteous and Conscious Rasta Explained!" I as a Rasta vow to love and accept, and be proud of all parts of which I am, including my birth country and my ethnic background Rastafari is a spiritual way of living that embraces self-love. We do embrace this self-love by loving and accepting, our birth country, the birth country of our parents, and our ancestry. In Rastafari we accept and embrace all of who we are. I as a Rasta pledge not to be defined by society or any one individual Rastafari is a way of living that embraces individuality. We know Babylon tries to make us all think act and dress the same way. But, we as Rasta know better. Jah made every individual unique. We define ourselves and do not allow ourselves to be defined by Babylon or any particular individual.

I as a Rasta pledge to be a creative free thinking human being As Rastafarians we embrace creative free thinking. It is through creative free thinking that Jah (The Most High) can communicate with us. In Rastafari we believe each man should live his life as he chooses doing the things he enjoys doing, and that each individual has a unique contribution to make to society. We know we are not clones or zombies, for Babylon. as a Rasta pledge to have spiritual awareness, for from this I receive strength and wholeness of self It is important to live life as a spiritual being. Spiritual awareness allows a person to feel whole, and complete in this ever-changing, ever shifting, ever bustling society. One needs time to "still the mind" and just allow the body to be. Through spirituality (prayer meditation and fasting) Rastafarians receive inner strength to deflect the corruption and pressures of today’s society.

I as a Rasta pledge to approach all disagreements and misunderstanding with love, and over standing To be a Rasta means, that in any disagreement, and or misunderstanding we want to try to view the situation from a loving and understanding point of view once we get some time alone. With this in mind we try to be the first one to give in or to apologize. We know Jah is watching and we must be on our best behaviour to enter Zion I as a Rasta pledge to have a spiritual rebirth in the truth Rastafarians follow the way of life of spiritual truth. I can assure you this way of life is positive and good for everyone because Rasta are born with this awareness and knowledge that Rastafari is the rightful way. Now I walk in spiritual truth I as a Rasta pledge that I will not seek to define or dislike others based on birth country, class, ethnicity, or skin color Rasta knows Babylon is full of many judgements. Rasta knows all people are equal in the eyes of Jah. For this reason it is ungodly behaviour to define another

person based on their birth country, class, ethnic background or skin color. We think in terms of love, not the terms that Babylon has used to divide people today. Rasta take the high road, we choose not to participate in thoughtless, competitive, unloving behaviour. I as a Rasta pledge to unite in love and harmony with other Rasta’s whose mission is peace love and togetherness It is of the utmost importance that Rasta interacts with one another in a loving positive way. Other Rasta’s become like your brothers and sisters once you begin to follow this way of life. We are a very close-knit loving community. This means... Sharing freely from the heart and expecting nothing in return Having a mentality of equality not competition among other Rasta Quietly being able to agree to disagree without acknowledgement from the other person. Staying away from negative comments or discussions that cause confusion and or division among Rasta

I as a Rasta pledge that my life belongs to me and is determined by the daily choices that I make Rastafari man and Rastafari Women enjoy freedom and to own our own lives. We take responsibility for our own happiness by the choices that we make daily. Rasta knows that Jah gave us "free will", so now it is our job to wake up every day with our chosen purpose in mind. I as a Rasta pledge to be open to Jah Guidance and love Rasta men and women allow The Most High to communicate with them and guide them towards endeavours that are productive and loving. Let Jah be your guide, just open your heart. The following may help you to understand what it means to become a Rasta too and the intention to be righteous and conscious as Rasta. Spiritual Practices of Rasta

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” - Matthew 6:33 The Morning Time Rasta keeps a strict Routine of Bible study, prayer and meditation. This helps

to build and maintain a relationship with Jah that is strong and that cannot be weakened by Babylon. The Night Time The Night time is another “Holy time” or “Highly spiritual” time for Rasta. It is not as “high” as the morning but it is more a time of thanks giving. A Rasta night time routine is when we “Thank Jah” for the day, and take time to absorb his word, from our Holy King James Version Bible. You could call this a time of “Iditation” as Rasta call it, or you could say a time of meditation/ reflection.

Rasta Morning Practices/Routine The morning is the most spiritual time for a Rasta. Jah is close by and he readily hears everything we as people do and say in the morning time. Technically every morning when Rasta wake this is Reserved “Jah time.” The Morning is a time of spiritual “impregnation.” So, no arguing or yelling when Rasta just wakes up. To do this would be considerred disrespectful to the Most High. As Rasta our first words

and actions are for and about Jah and pave the way for him to guide us and protect us for rest of the day. 3 Things Rasta do Each Morning!

1. Read our King James Version Bible (30 minutes – 1 hour) 2. Call out Jah name - “King Selassie I” or “Jah Rastafari!” 3. Give thanks for the blessing of another morning, and a bed to sleep in( “I and I Give Thanks for another day!” ) Pretty much Rasta give thanks for anything he is grateful for in the Morning time, once he has awaken.

3 Things Rasta do Each Night!

1. Read our King James Version - Bible 1 hour 2. Reflect and Overstand the day alone in silence (30 minutess - 1 hour) 3. Thank Jah for the Blessed Day & our home! (Optional) Smoke some herb or burn some incense Rasta enjoy these spiritual times, as we know they draw us closer to Jah, and enrich our minds with righteousness to help us to enter Holy Mount Zion.

The Rastafari Sabbath The Rastafari Sabbath is one of the most important aspects of Embracing Rastafari. Rasta who desires to hold the faith “deep” adheres to the Rastafari Sabbath. To Keep a weekly Sabbath is 1 of the 10 Commandments give to Moses by Jah. “8

9

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”

How to Commemorate the Rasta Sabbath • When: Friday Evening from Sundown to Saturday Evening sundown. • What: During the Sabbath you are not to ingest food. In other words

you must "fast."  Where: At home. • Other things Rasta do during the Sabbath: Participate more deeply than usual in prayer, meditation, and bible study, and clean and prepare for the feast. The purpose of the Sabbath The Purpose of the Rastafari Sabbath and Fast is to show our commitment and dedication to Jah, The Almighty Creator. Rasta Know Jah is a living entity who loves us and watches over us. With that we dedicate one Day of the week as being, just for H.I.M.

What makes the Sabbath special? The Sabbath is a day dedicated to The Most High. During the Sabbath we give more praises, and keep Jah at the forefront of our thoughts. The Sabbath is to remind us to put him first, and to give thanks for what we have. On the Sabbath we read more bible verses than usual, and abstain from certain activities. Rasta may not do the Following during the Holy Sabbath • Eat Solid food • Go to the home of another • Have friends over

• • •

Use curse words Go To work (your job) Attend social events

Things Rasta should do during the Holy Sabbath • Organize the home • Clean the home • Pray or meditate more often • Give Praises to The Almighty • Speak Lovingly with others • Read at least 6 - 10 bible Chapters • Fast (no eating of solid foods) • Drink unsweetened and caffeine less drinks • Light incense in honor of our ancestors Opening the Holy Sabbath Friday Evening at sundown, or Saturday Morning when you wake up, you should do a special prayer to commemorate the Rastafari Sabbath. With time you will come up with one of your Own. Since Rastafari is spirituality, it is a personal relationship with The Most High and should not be a "Spirituality by Numbers" experience. I have provided a Sabbath prayer just for you to begin. In Rastafari we don't believe in doing everything by 'rote" otherwise it would not be real. We

develop our own relationship ship with Jah. Create your own prayer that you will use to commemorate the Rastafari Sabbath. Opening the Sabbath Prayer Oh Jah, bless us on this beautiful Holy Sabbath Day. Give I and I strength and wisdom in this time. Provide I and I with your Guidance, Wisdom, Love and Protection. I and I give thanks for this beautiful Holy Sabbath Day. Blessed. In the name of (His Imperial Majesty) King Selassie I.

How to Close the Sabbath Fast Once the Rasta Sabbath Fast is complete (sundown Saturday evening) The Rasta may eat his home cooked meal he prepared during The Fast. However it is very important, he pray and give thanks unto "The Most High" Jah before eating this meal. (Rasta must pray by bowing his head in front of his plate, before he eats his meal at the end of the Sabbath.) Closing the Sabbath Prayer Oh Jah, Bless this food we are about to eat. Continue to provide food and health and strength to I and I. Rastafari is my

light. I Give Thanks and Praises to the Most High. Jah Rastafari. King Selassie I the first.

7 Rastafari Livity Principles Rastafari Principle #1 Rasta does not eat Meat

Meat is dead flesh! As instructed by the Most High, to keep the temple clean, the eating of “dead flesh” is strictly forbidden. Not eating meat, allows for us to feel ourselves as being more” lightweight.” By eating a diet that is strictly fruits and vegetables as its base, combined

with other spiritual practices, Rasta are able to more feel ourselves as our soul.

Rastafari Principle #2 Keep “the temple” clean

It is easy for one to defile his temple with unclean sex acts such as… Promiscuity Masturbation Group Sex Homosexuality Prostitution etc.

Rasta does not ingest...

Medication (Babylon tricks, to make you sicker) Alcohol (avoid the devils drink) Cigarettes (lung destroyer) Recreational drugs (Another Gimmick of Satan) Rasta use herbs for his ailments, and smoke the natural plant of The Most High, “Herb.” We do not fall for Satan and Babylon’s Tricks. More Tips to keep the temple “clean” as Rasta Practice Monogamy when with a mate! Practice celibacy when without a mate! Stay away from all satanic sexual acts, thoughts, and images! Eat food that is none processed and in its original form! Rasta know that to keep the temple clean, is one of the most important assurances for entrance into holy Mount Zion Temple cleanse as Rasta Many Rasta like to do a "cleanse" of the body about once a month, to release toxins. Visit your local health food store to purchase an all-natural herbal cleanses. You can also go on water fast;

this helps to cleanse the body too. I recommend 2 -3 days at max.

Rastafari Principle #3 “Rasta does not cut the hair.”

Rasta does not cut, shave, trim or pluck any hair, anywhere on the body. This is in keeping with the covenant that Rasta has with The Most High, Jah.

The growing of the dreadlocks is the physical representation of the Covenant Rasta has with Jah, the Almighty… The covenant states…

“...He shall separate himself from wine and similar drink; he shall drink neither vinegar made from wine nor vinegar made from similar drink; neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins. All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, from seed to skin. All the days of the vow of his separation no razor shall come upon his head; until the days are fulfilled for which he separated himself to the Lord, he shall be holy. Then he shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow. All the days that he separates

himself to the Lord he shall not go near a dead body. He shall not make himself unclean even for his father or his mother, for his brother or his sister, when they die, because his separation to God is on his head. All the days of his separation he shall be holy to the Lord…” - Numbers 6 - The Vow of a Nazirite

Rastafari Principle #4 “Live By the 10 commandments”

The Ten Commandments 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods beforeme. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labour and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female

servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19 and said to Moses, “Speak to

us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” 21

The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.

Idols and Altars 22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold. 24

“‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honoured, I will come to you and bless you. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’

Write them on your heart! As someone who is new to studying Rastafari, it is a good idea to memorize “the holy 10 Commandments,” in order to write them on your heart. If you learn and absorb only one thing from this book, let it be the 10 Commandments of Jah. As Rasta the 10 commandments is like a Shield over our hearts that helps us to repel the antics and temptations of Babylon.

Rastafari Principle #5 “Honour Jah”

Jah is African Entity! All born Rasta know this. This is one of the key aspects of what makes us Rasta. How to Honour Jah Rasta By wearing your hair in dreadlocks By mounting a photo of King Selassie I in the Bedroom and Living Room area of your home By wearing Ethiopian (Rasta/African) colors Red Yellow and Green By learning about black African Roots & Culture

Why Honour Jah? Honouring Jah brings more of his blessing and love into one's life.

Rastafari Principle #6 “Resist Satan”

Rasta knows the temptations of Satan are many… Satan knows our hearts Satan knows our minds Satan knows our weaknesses The Temptations of Satan include... Stealing Lying Promiscuity Self-hatred Sexual perversion

Abusing others Suicide Prostitution Buying sex Rage Alcoholism Abusing drugs Adultery The use of curse words Lust Rastafari "Reject" all thoughts and actions related to Satan. We avoid all places, people, and things that are governed by Satan. Satan Comes in Many Forms The urge to do something "wild" An Invitation to go to a certain "cool" place The desire to make some "quick cash" The feeling to take "revenge" on an enemy The desire to "impress" a woman or man, girl or boy etc. The advances of a man/woman you cannot resist! Rasta Resist Satan, in order that we may be deemed “clean” to enter Zion!

Rastafari Principle #7 “Unity “

In Rastafari Unity means two things: Unity for the black nation & World unity for all peoples and all nations. Rasta Love and Respect Africans Slavery and its effects have caused the Unity and culture of African black peoples to crumble. For this reason, as appointed by Jah, all Rasta whether he is black, whether he is white, whether he is Hispanic, whether he is Asian, etc. must have love and respect for the black nation.

If you wish to read more principles and beliefs of Rasta, check out my book “Rastafari: Beliefs and Principles.” Please only read this book if you are serious about Rastafari. I have come to understand some people are selective about what they learn about Rasta.

How to Live “Natural” as Rasta Living natural as Rasta means, using all natural products to clean your home and body, especially the Dreadlocks. Eating foods that are Natural and unprocessed. Healing yourself with natural herbs of the earth given by Jah. Typical Natural Food Eaten by Rasta Did you ever notice that many Rasta are very skinny? Here are some “clean” and healthy foods that Rasta typically eats. Almonds Peanuts Dried Ginger Dried Mango Dried Pears (my favorite) Yam Potatoes Squash String beans Okra Spinach

Apples Plums Peaches Mango Spinach Dumpling Chick Peas Boiled Banana Plantain Ackee Yam Dashing Okra Cho Cho Fritters Soya Milk Water Yogurt Real Fruit Juice Carrot Juice Irish moss Peanut Punch Almond Milk Nutriment

Natural Products for Washing Rasta Locks “Lime and Aloe Wash” Keeping in line with the Rastafari Natural way of living, Many Rasta in the Caribbean use a mixture of Lime and Aloe to wash their holy crown. The reason is that the mixture is 100 percent natural and once Rasta goes out into the sun after using the mixture to wash the hair, the dreadlocks will “Lock up” much faster. This mixture also helps to keep in the fly “a ways” or “loose hairs” that sometimes fall out of locks during the early stages of the locking process. If one does not go out into the sun immediately after washing the dreadlocks with this mixture, it still works to lock the dreadlocks up. That’s because of the lime juice component. This mixture is best used for starter locks only, as it may have a “drying” effect depending on your hair type. It’s great for hair that is hard to lock, or hair that has been straightened with “Lye.”

Raw Shea Butter Many Rastafari in America, Canada, UK etc. Use Raw Shea Butter to wash the dreadlocks. It is 100 natural, so it keeps in line with the Rastafari Livity. It is sold by weight and can usually be bought at an African, or Caribbean store or hair & beauty supply store. Apparently Raw Shea Butter is good for washing the body too. Sea Salt Water Many Rasta like to wash their Dreadlocks with “Sea salt Water.” Living in the In the Caribbean this is easy to do. Many Rasta take a quick dip in the morning in the sea, and the body and hair is washed by the Salt of the Sea. The sea Salt also helps the dreadlocks to lock up too. If you live in Canada, America or the UK etc. Then you may want to buy Sea Salt at your local health shop and create a mixture of spring water and Sea Salt to wash your dreadlocks with, in order to stay in line with the Rastafari way of life of living natural. As a Rastafari Myself I shop at a store online called “Lush” for all my natural body

products. Lush sells all organic products that smell out of this world. At Lush you can buy all Natural … Lotions Soaps Shampoos Conditioners Moisturizers All natural They even have some products just for dreadlocks. Please visit http://www.lush.com/ for more information.

Cleaning of the Home (during the Sabbath) Cleaning the home as Rasta may be done at any time, but it has special significance when done on the Sabbath. Rasta cleans the home during the Sabbath to commemorate the Sabbath and to Welcome the presence of Jah into the Home. Remember when Jah initiated Moses as the burning bush… “…5And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground..” - Exodus 3 King James Version Bible. In other words Jah likes the environment where he is to be clean. To welcome him we prepare our home and make it clean… Preparing the Rastafari Sabbath

“Run Down”

If you want to embrace the Culture of Jamaica, then you have to eat some “Run Down” at list once on a Sunday Morning with some Fried dumpling. Seriously it hits the spot and may send you back to bed, that’s what it does to me. One Jamaican man I knew, called “Run Down” “slave food.” My opinion is that it tastes great and is great to make on a budget, and is easy to cook. Don’t worry about the name; it won’t give you a runny stomach. The name comes from the rich gravy of the meal. You will need… 3 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lime juice 2 lbs. (1 kg) mackerel or other oily fish (salt fish *boneless* works good too) 3 cups (750) coconut milk 1 large onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, sliced 1 scotch bonnet or jalapeno chili, deseeded and minced 1 lb. (500 g) ripe tomatoes, blanched, peeled and diced 1 tablespoon cider vinegar 1 teaspoon dried thyme Salt and freshly ground black pepper (no salt if you are using salt fish)

How to Prepare Step 1 Pour the lime juice over the fish fillets in a shallow bowl and set aside. Step 2 IN a large, heavy skillet cook the coconut milk until it turns oily about 5 to 7 minutes. Step 3 Add the onion, garlic and chili, and cook until tender, about 5 minutes Stir in the tomatoes, vinegar, thyme, and salt and pepper. Step 4 Add the fish, cover and cook until the fish flakes easily when tested with a fork, about 10 minutes.

Jamaican Curried Tofu

1 pound of tofu Light soy sauce Little bit of sea salt and freshly ground black pepper ½ teaspoon ground cumin ½ teaspoon garlic powder ½ Teaspoon of Jamaican curry powder 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil 1 medium onion diced 1 medium potato, peeled and cut into cubes 3 / 4 cups of baby carrots 1 medium roma tomato diced 2 scallions chopped 5 sprigs of fresh thyme ½ teaspoon of ground allspice 1 cup of water 1 vegetarian bouillon cube 15 ml of flour Dissolved in 45 ml of water

Step 1 Drain the Tofu and slice it into 8 - 10 pieces. Sprinkle both sides lightly with the soy sauce, and season to taste with the salt, black pepper, cumin, garlic powder, and curry powder Step 2 Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat and add the tofu, and fry on both sides until firm and golden. Transfer it to a plate and set it aside Step 3 Add more oil to the skillet if needed, then add the onion, potato, and carrots and sauté until tender. Step 4 Season with a pinch of salt and add the tomato, scallions, thyme, allspice, 1 cup of water and bouillon Step 5 Bring to a boil, then add the flour and water mixture and cook until the sauce begins to thicken

Step6 Return the tofu to the skillet and simmer for approximately 10 minutes. *serve over rice or vegetables* Makes 6 Servings

SO WHY SUBMIT?

The Christian Bible on Submission to your Partner “...2 2

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[a] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to

his wife and the two will become one flesh.”[b] 32 This is a profound mystery— but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband….” Ephesians 5:22-33 Submission Means More Love to Jah! 10 Essentials of a Rastafari Home

The Photo above is of the house in Jamaica where the great Rastafari music legend Bob Marley Grew up. Notice how the colors of Ras-Tafari King Selassie I is within and without of the home.

#1 “Plants/Greenery”

Sounds pretty strange huh? Plants! Going into a Rastafari home you will notice many plants, or small life forms such as birds and fish. The reason is plants remind Rasta of nature, and every Rasta knows, nature is Jah! Rasta love to have plants sitting by the windows in their home, where they plants can absorb the light of the Sun and grow, just as all life does. Plants are a Rastafari necessity as they clean the air and provide a focal point of calm for “nature mediation”. Also plants invite the spirit of Jah into the Home as Rasta. Rasta like to have other living life in the home such as small aquarium with small fish, or a small bird cage with 1 or two birds. This make Rasta feel closer to nature and closer to Jah, the creator of all living things.

#2 “Lion of Judah Flag”

The “Lion of Judah flag” is is the symbol of the “Rastafari Livity” Worldwide. The Rastafari Colors The color red represents the blood shed of the African peoples during slavery. The color yellow represents sun that shines on the African Land. The color Green symbolizes the abundance of lush greenery in Nature that exists all over the Africa. The correct order of the Rasta colors is Red, then yellow, and then Green. Don’t be fooled by the order of the colors on the flag. It was changed by people not of the Ethiopian Monarchy.

“…Before the rectangular flag was created, Ethiopia flew three colored pennants. The red was then at the top…” Wikipedia.com The Lion The Lion, on the “Lion of Judah” Flag Represents, King Selassie I. Give thanks and praises to The Most High, Jah Rastafari! The meaning Judah Flag Victory Love Unity Jah Divinity Strength Royalty #3 “The Jamaican Flag”

the

Lion

of

The Jamaican Flag is another very important symbol in Rastafari Culture. Here’s why… Bob Marley, Great Rastafari Prophet, was born in 9 Mile Saint Ann parish, Jamaica King Selassie I, God of Rastafari and face of Jah, visited Jamaica in 1966 Both Mortimer Planno and Howell Percival (The 2 first Rastaman) were born in Jamaica Marcus Garvey, a leader of the Black independence movement, and Hero of Rastafari, August 17 188, was born in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica

Due to the many historical and important connections between Jamaica and Rastafari, The Jamaican flag holds almost as much weight, as the Rastafari flag, in the Rastafari Livity. Many Rasta have both the Rastafari Lion of Judah flag, and the Jamaican Flag, hung in their home.

#4 Nag Champa incense

Rastafari love to burn incense. It is seen as a way of to bring in positive spiritual energy into the space. The smoke is sent as a signal to the spirit realm to indicate that a person desires an oneness with the Ancestors. Rasta does have a particular incense that we burn during the Sabbath and for occasions that we desire to clean negative energy from the home. That incense is “Nag Champa.” Burn this incense if you want to clear out unwanted energies or negative thoughts, or just to start your day anew afresh from yesterday. Once you try “Nag Champa” once you will use it again and again. It has a very “clean” smell. #5 “King James Version Bible”

What Bible to Rasta Read? Rasta read the King James Version Bible only! Rasta do read other books & bibles such as the new international Christian bible, however The King James Version Bible is our main source for Overstanding and spiritual awareness as Rasta. The King James Version Bible has many Rastafari References & Teachings on how to live in Righteousness, cleanliness and Holiness; we do so, so that we may enter holy mount Zion. Rasta does read other books for spiritual enlightenment. Mostly About African Roots and Culture. Some popular

books are “The Kebra Negast,” and “The Promise Key.” #6 Book of Healing Herbs

Rasta does not believe in taking doctor prescribed “medications” & “pharmaceuticals.” For this reason many Rasta have at least one book in their home that is about the healing properties of herbs and natural medicine, and homeopathy. Rasta believes that herbs are Jah natural medicines, and that “medications” are Babylon’s way of making a person sicker,

so that Babylon can keep making more money. Great Books on Natural Medicine! “The Doctor's Complete Guide to Healing Herbs” - This one looks great too! “The Doctor's Complete Guide to Vitamins and Minerals”- I own this book, I love it! “Back to Eden” - Popular Jamaican Household Health and healing book.

#7 King Selassie I photo

Rastafari have many photos of King Selassie I in their home. The reason is that we know if you want to see the “face of Jah,” King Selassie I it! The Photos of King Selassie I give Rasta warm tingly feeling as we can see a representative face of our Creator, Jah. More Prophets and Leaders of the Rastafari Livity Rasta have in our Homes…. Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman Bob Marley, Nelson Mandela to name a few!

#8 Marijuana

“Marijuana is regarded as an herb of religious significance. It is used in Rastafari reasoning sessions, which are communal meetings involving meditation. According to Leonard Barrett, Rastafarians first began using Marijuana in reaction to the treatment of blacks in society. It became a reactionary device to enable freedom from the establishment. Marijuana is used by Rastafarians to heighten feelings of community and to

produce visions of a religious and calming nature. Rastafarians are unlikely to refer to the substance as marijuana; they usually describe it as the “herb.” The latter name is used because Rastafarians believe that marijuana use is sacred, following biblical texts justifying its use: “He causeth the grass for the cattle, and herb for the services of man.” - Psalm 104:14 “...thou shalt eat the herb of the field.” - Genesis 3.18 “...eat every herb of the land.” - Exodus 10:12 “...Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.” - Proverbs 15:17” It is not a requirement of The Rastafari Livity to smoke marijuana as Rastafari is not a Religion. Marijuana is smoked as a form of relaxation or to induce meditation and it is used because it is natural and not full of harmful additives.

#9 The Kebra Negast

The Kebra Negast is said to be One of the “lost books of the Bible.” I like the Kebra Negast because it contains the story of how the Queen of Sheba visited the Wise King Solomon and had “Relations” with him and became pregnant. This bible story is highly significant in Rastafari Livity and Culture because this child would grow up to become King Menelik I, the cousin of King Selassie I, that proves that King Selassie I is of Biblical Royalty

and Biblical Royal Bloodline, to King David and King Solomon.

#10 Rastafari Reggae Music

Prophets of Rastafari Marcus Garvey

Rastafari has its much of its roots in the philosophy of Marcus Garvey. Marcus Mosiah Garvey was born on the 17th of August 1887, in the Caribbean Island of Jamaica. His teachings of self empowerment are credited as being the sources behind the founding of Rastafari.

How it all began In the 1920s Garvey organised the “black nationalist movement” in America. A year later he had almost one million followers. The Black Nationalist leader became an inspiration to black people all over the world and mainly because during a time of “struggle” and racial prejudice, Marcus Garvey taught black people to be proud of their race, and their African Appearance. Garvey's powerful speeches, such as "Up you mighty race … gained him numerous supporters. Many people believe that what Marcus Garvey said in 1920, "Look to Africa, when a black king shall be crowned, for the day of deliverance is at hand” came true in 1930, when Ras Tafari Makonnen was crowned the new Emperor of Ethiopia, and became known as Emperor Haile Selassie I. It is after the crowning of Selassie that the Rastafarian movement officially began.

Bob Marley

Bob Marley was born in 1945 to a white middle class father and a black mother, in Jamaica. He left home at 14 years old to pursue a music career in Kingston. This was his first experience of Rastafari, becoming a pupil of local singer and devout Rastafari, Joe Higgs. After creating the highly successful Jamaican reggae group, 'Wailers', Marley's national fame seemed set. His marriage to Rita Anderson, a devout Rastafarian, in 1964, further increased his interest in the religion and his music reflected this. Catch a Fire was the first of the Wailers' albums released outside of Jamaica, and immediately earned worldwide acclaim. His two co-stars, Livingstone and Tosh, left the group because of increased tour demands and Marley had to form a new line-up. The new name, the I-Threes, consisted of three female singers, including his wife, Rita. Sellout shows followed in London and America.

Graffiti in Barcelona showing Bob Marley's face As famous as he was outside Jamaica, within his home country he was viewed as a prophet and a poet. The message of Rastafari politics and theology in his

songs was never diluted, and for the Jamaicans, to whom the religion was particularly targeted, his songs had additional meaning. His most successful year, 1980, was kicked off by a concert in the newly independent Zimbabwe, and a tour of the US was planned. But just a year later he collapsed while jogging in New York's Central Park. He had a recurring cancer which had spread to his brain, lungs and liver. He died later in hospital, aged 36.

King Selassie I

“King Speeches” “Spirituality” The temple of the most high begins with the human body, which houses our life, essence of our existence. Africans are in bondage today because they

approach spirituality through Religion provided by foreign invaders and conquerors. We must stop confusing religion and spirituality. Religion is a set of rules, regulations and rituals created by humans which were supposed to help people grow spiritually. Due to human imperfection religion has become corrupt, political, divisive, and a tool for power struggle. Spirituality is not theology or ideology. It is simply a way of life, pure and original as was given by the Most High. Spirituality is a network linking us to the Most High, the universe and each other. As the essence of our existence it embodies our culture, true identity, nationhood and destiny. A people without a nation they can really call their own is a people without a soul. Africa is our nation and is in spiritual and physical bondage because her leaders are turning to outside forces for solutions to African problems when everything Africa needs is within her. When African righteous people come together, the world will come together. This is our divine destiny. – Emperor Haile Selassie, Crowned King of Ethiopia 1930 “Leadership” Leadership does not mean domination. The world is always well supplied with

people who wish to rule and dominate others. The true leader is a different sort; he seeks effective activity which has a truly beneficent purpose. He inspires others to follow in his wake, and holding aloft the torch of wisdom, leads the way for society to realize its genuinely great aspirations. The art of leadership is in the ability to make people want to work for you, while they are really under no obligation to do so. Leaders are people, who raise the standards by which they judge themselves and by which they are willing to be judged. The goal chosen, the objective selected, the requirements imposed, are not mainly for their followers alone. They develop with consummate energy and devotion, their own skill and knowledge in order to reach the standard they themselves have set. This whole-hearted acceptance of the demands imposed by even higher standards is the basis of all human progress. A love of higher quality, we must remember, is essential in a leader. The true leader is one who realizes by

faith that he is an instrument in the hands of God, and dedicates himself to be a guide and inspirer of the nobler sentiments and aspirations of the people.

He who would be a leader must pay the price in self-discipline and moral restraints. This details the correction and improvement of his personal character, the checking of passions and desires and an exemplary control of one's bodily needs and desires. To be first in place, one must be first in merit as well. He who has not learned to render prompt and willing service to others will find it difficult to win and keep the goodwill and cooperation of his subordinates. A leader will kindle interest, teach, aid, correct and inspire. Those whom he leads will cooperate with him in maintaining discipline for the good of the group. He will instruct his followed in the goals towards which to strive, and create in them a sense of mutual effort for attaining the goal. – Emperor Haile Selassie, Crowned King of Ethiopia 1930 “The Bible” We in Ethiopia have one of the oldest versions of the bible, but however old

the version may be, in whatever language it might be written, the Word remains one and the same. It transcends all boundaries of empires and all conceptions of race. It is eternal. No doubt you all remember reading in the Acts of the Apostles of how Philip baptised the Ethiopian official. He is the first Ethiopian on record to have followed Christ, and from that day onwards the Word of God has continued to grow in the hearts of Ethiopians. And I might say for myself that from early childhood I was taught to appreciate the Bible and my love for it increases with the passage of time. All through my troubles I have found it a cause of infinite comfort. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" who can resist an invitation so full of compassion? Because of this personal experience in the goodness of the Bible, I was resolved that all my countrymen should also share its great blessing and that by reading the Bible they should find truth for themselves. Therefore, I caused a new translation to be made from our ancient

language into the language which the old and the young understood and spoke. Today man sees all his hopes and aspirations crumbling before him. He is perplexed and knows not whither he is drifting. But he must realise that the Bible is his refuge, and the rallying point for all humanity. In it man will find the solution of his present difficulties and guidance for his future action, and unless he accepts with clear conscience the Bible and its great Message, he cannot hope for salvation. For my part I glory in the Bible. – Emperor Haile Selassie, Crowned King of Ethiopia 1930

Bible Verses for Living as Rasta

Fear of the Lord is Wisdom 11 Fear of the Lord is a person’s glory, boasting, gladness, and crown of rejoicing. 12 Fear of the Lord will cheer the heart, and it will give gladness, joy, and a long life.[f] 13 Things will go well at the end for those who fear the Lord. They will be blessed at the time of death. 14 Wisdom starts with fearing the Lord, and she is joined to the faithful even within the womb. 15 Wisdom built her nest among human beings as an eternal foundation, and they will entrust their offspring to her. 16 Wisdom is fully satisfied with fearing the Lord, and she will make people drunk with her fruits. 17 She will fill all their houses with desirable things and fill their storehouses from her produce. 18 Fearing the Lord is Wisdom’s crowning garland, sprouting forth peace and restorative health.

[g] 19 She rained down skill and insightful knowledge, and she raised up the reputation of those who held on to her. 20 Fearing the Lord is Wisdom’s root, and her branches yield a long life.[h] 22 Unjust anger won’t be justified, for the tipping point of one’s anger is one’s downfall. 23 Patient people will hold themselves back until the right moment, and afterward they will be paid back with joy. 24 They will hide their words until the right moment, and many will talk about their good judgment. 25 There are intelligent proverbs in Wisdom’s treasuries, but sinners avoid godliness like the plague. 26 If you want to find Wisdom, then keep the commandments, and the Lord will supply her to you in vast quantities. 27 Fearing the Lord brings

wisdom and education. He is pleased with faithfulness and gentleness. 28 Don’t disobey the fear of the Lord, and don’t approach him[i] with a divided heart. 29 Don’t give people reason to call you a hypocrite, and pay attention to what you say. 30 Don’t exalt yourself, or else you might fall and bring dishonor to yourself. The Lord will reveal your secrets, and he will overthrow you in the middle of the congregation, because you didn’t come with proper regard for the Lord and your heart was full of insincerity.” Caution Regarding Associates Whoever touches pitch will be defiled, and whoever associates with a proud man will become like him. 2 Do not lift a weight beyond your strength, nor associate with a man mightier and richer than you.

How can the clay pot associate with the iron kettle? The pot will strike against it, and will itself be broken. 3 A rich man does wrong, and he even adds reproaches; a poor man suffers wrong, and he must add apologies. 4 A rich man[a] will exploit you if you can be of use to him, but if you are in need he will forsake you. 5 If you own something, he will live with you; he will drain your resources and he will not care. 6 When he needs you he will deceive you, he will smile at you and give you hope. He will speak to you kindly and say, “What do you need?” 7 He will shame you with his foods, until he has drained you two or three times; and finally he will deride you. Should he see you afterwards, he will forsake you, and shake his head at you. 8 Take care not to be led astray, and not to be humiliated in your feasting.[b] 9 When a powerful man invites you, be reserved; and he will invite you the more often. 10 Do not push forward, lest you be repulsed; and do not remain at a distance, lest you be forgotten.

11 Do not try to treat him as an equal, nor trust his abundance of words; for he will test you through much talk, and while he smiles he will be examining you. 12 Cruel is he who does not keep words to himself; he will not hesitate to injure or to imprison. 13 Keep words to yourself and be very watchful, for you are walking about with your own downfall.[c] 15 Every creature loves its like, and every person his neighbor; 16 all living beings associate by species, and a man clings to one like himself. 17 What fellowship has a wolf with a lamb? No more has a sinner with a godly man. 18 What peace is there between a hyena and a dog? And what peace between a rich man and a poor man? 19 Wild asses in the wilderness are the prey of lions; likewise the poor are pastures for the rich. 20 Humility is an abomination to a proud man; likewise a poor man is an abomination to a rich one. 21 When a rich man totters, he is steadied by friends, but when a humble man falls, he is even pushed

away by friends. 22 If a rich man slips, his helpers are many; he speaks unseemly words, and they justify him. If a humble man slips, they even reproach him; he speaks sensibly, and receives no attention. 23 When the rich man speaks all are silent, and they extol to the clouds what he says. When the poor man speaks they say, “Who is this fellow?” And should he stumble, they even push him down. 24 Riches are good if they are free from sin, and poverty is evil in the opinion of the ungodly. 25 A man’s heart changes his countenance, either for good or for evil.[d] 26 The mark of a happy heart is a cheerful face, but to devise proverbs requires painful thinking.” - Sirach 13

Advice Concerning Kingman)

Women

(For

9 Do not be jealous of the wife of your bosom, or you will teach her an evil lesson to your own hurt. 2 Do not give yourself to a woman and let her trample down your strength. 3 Do not go near a loose woman, or you will fall into her snares. 4 Do not dally with a singing girl, or you will be caught by her tricks. 5 Do not look intently at a virgin, or you may stumble and incur penalties for her. 6 Do not give yourself to prostitutes, or you may lose your inheritance. 7 Do not look around in the streets of a city, or wander about in its deserted sections. 8 Turn away your eyes from a shapely woman, and do not gaze at beauty belonging to another; many have been seduced by a woman’s beauty, and by it passion is kindled like a fire. 9 Never dine with another man’s wife, or revel with her at wine; or your heart may turn aside to her, and in blood[a] you may be plunged into destruction.

Sirach 9:1

Duties toward the Poor and the Oppressed 4 My child, do not cheat the poor of their living, and do not keep needy eyes waiting. 2 Do not grieve the hungry, or anger one in need. 3 Do not add to the troubles of the desperate, or delay giving to the needy. 4 Do not reject a suppliant in distress, or turn your face away from the poor. 5 Do not avert your eye from the needy, and give no one reason to curse you; 6 for if in bitterness of soul some should curse you, their Creator will hear their prayer. 7 Endear yourself to the congregation; bow your head low to the great. 8 Give a hearing to the poor, and return their greeting politely. 9 Rescue the oppressed from the oppressor; and do not be hesitant in giving a verdict. 10 Be a father to orphans, and be like a husband to their mother; you will then be like a son of the Most High, and he will love you more than does your mother.

Duties to the Poor and Oppressed In my book Rastafari Beliefs and Principles I mention that one of the Beliefs of Rasta is “Charity.” Here is a biblical Verse that Reminds Rasta of the Importance of “Charity” and enforces our duties as Rasta. 5 Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits[a] of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the

scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: 14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped. Sirach 4:1

How to get into Zion 3 - "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and Godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 - For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness and to goodness, knowledge, and to knowledge self-control and to selfcontrol, perseverance, and to

perseverance, godliness, and to godliness, brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and productive, in your knowledge of our lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. 10 - Therefore my brothers be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom, of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.Peter 2

The Virtuous Wife

10Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband does safely trust in her, so that he shall have no lack of gain. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13She seeks wool, and flax, and works willingly with her hands. 14 She is like the merchants' ships; she brings her food from afar. 15 She rises also while it is yet night, and gives food to her household, and a portion to her maidservants.

16 She considers a field, and buys it: with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds her loins with strength, and strengthens her arms. 18 She perceives that her merchandise is good: her lamp goes not out by night. 19 She lays her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. 20She stretches out her hand to the poor; yea, she reaches forth her hands to the needy. 21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22She makes herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She makes fine linen, and sells it; and delivers sashes unto the merchants. 25 Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom; and on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looks well to the ways of her household, and eats not the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but you excel them all. 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that fears the LORD, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:15

Rastafari believe in having as many children as we desire. No, it is not a part of our faith to have many children. We do believe that sex should be natural and that pregnancy should not be “avoided” as a way of allowing nature to take its course…However, As Rasta we also understand that children are a responsibility, and require care and attention around the clock. So, we also believe that those, in the Rastafari community, who are fit and prepared, should have as many children as they desire. Those who are not should think twice. Can White people Be Rasta?

Is King Selassie I talked about in the bible? Yes, King Selassie I is talked about in the Bible in various ways. Here he is mentioned in the book of Revelation

And NO MAN in Heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the BOOK, neither to look thereon." “Lion of the tribe of Judah” "And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the LION of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to OPEN the BOOK, and to LOOSE the SEVEN SEALS thereof. And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a LAMB as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the SEVEN Spirits of GOD sent forth into all the earth. And HE came and TOOK the BOOK out of the right hand of Him that sat upon the throne." Revelation 5:5 Are men and women equal in Rastafari? Absolutely! Empress Menen and King Selassie I were both crowned King and Queen of Ethiopia November 2nd 1930,

at the same time. Both Genders are equal in Rastafari Culture. Rasta Empress is submissive to our Kingman because we love Jah and we know Jah loves when we show “more” love to his creations. What is The Correct way to Grow Locks as Rastafari? The Correct way to grow dreadlocks as Rasta is not to let anybody or anything but your own fingers and Jah start and to form the Dreadlocks. One of the deep “rules” of Rastafari is not to use a comb or scissor/razors on any of the hair on your body. So I recommend using your finger tips to divide the lines... To do so is against Rasta beliefs.

What’s next as a New Rasta?

“Bible Chapters of Rasta Overstanding”

Read the Bible Chapters of Rastafari overstanding. This will help you to get “a feel” for the bible Chapters that are important in the Rastafari livity. If you are grasping the spirituality the the way you are supposed to, reading these bible Chapters and Verses will raise some questions for you about life and the creation of man. This is a very normal part of being a Rasta. Many Rasta like to ponder these questions together amongst each other, in what’s known as a “Rastafari Reasoning Session.”

Your New Rasta Name!

Jah Changed Abrams name to “Abraham” “...As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you…” - Genesis 17 Jah Changed Jacobs Name to “Israel” “...9And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him. 10And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. 11And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.

12And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. Genesis 35:9 The Reason you should choose a new name as Rasta is to mark a new beginning in your life. No longer will you follow the ideologies of Babylon, but you will now maintain a Holy Covenant and keep the Commandments of the Almighty Jah! Many Rasta change their name to mark this very special, and important spiritual point in their life.

How to choose your new Rasta name Your Rasta name should be something that you are comfortable with and that you like. You can choose a name straight out of the bible, or you can choose any name and put the word, “Ras” or “Empress” in front of it, or you can incorporate the word Jah into your Rasta Name, to come up with a new name. When I was choosing my Rasta name I knew I wanted the word, “Jah” in my name and I knew I wanted it to sound original and feminine. I thought about Jamaican patois, and how a Jamaican

might say…”God is in you.” I didn't like the way that “Jah- ina- you” sounded, so I chose “You- a- Jah.” which works out to Yuajah! I love my name. I know it marks a time when I stepped into myself, and when I became one with Jah.

Start your Locks as Rasta!

The meaning of the Word Dreadlocks Some people say that you should call dreadlocks only “Locks.” As Rasta we use both terms

interchangeably. The word “Dread” means “to fear.” Rasta fears the power of the Almighty Jah. So, the word “dreadlocks” actually means “fear of Jah Locks.” Both words are fine as Rasta. When to Start your Locks Your Dreadlocks should be started when you are ready to give your life over completely 100% percent over to Jah, Rastafari! The day I started my locks was wonderful. I embraced my freedom, my individuality, my Culture, and my spiritual truth. I knew I was ready for a new beginning. I knew I was ready to embrace my life as Rasta. Hard to Lock Hair You may have “hard to Lock” hair as I did. When I started my dreadlocks, my hair was full of “lye!” Which is the proper word for Chemical hair straightener designed for African hair. By this time I had been “perming” my hair with Lye for almost 20 years. Can you believe that? Caught up in a “Lye” for almost 20 years! Thanks to Jah, I allowed my hair to be what it is and that day, by starting my dreadlocks, I stepped into me.

I asked a lot of questions before I began the locking process and finally determined that using Lime Juice and Aloe was the best bet for me. Once I started applying the mixture daily, I realized that my permed ends, did not want to lock! I eventually had to saturate them with the lime juice alone in order to force them to lock. I was determined to keep my length. I did this everyday about 3 times a day for about 6 weeks, without washing my locks, and then noticed my hair beginning to lock. There are other methods to help your Locks to form, but I chose the lime juice because I wanted keep my locks straight so to speak. You can go to a Salon, use a crochet hook, or use some type of chemical or cream, like “Knotty boy” products to help you start your Dreadlocks. “Knotty Boy” products are meant for straight hair types. For me going to a salon, or using any foreign objects such as clips, or comb or scissors to help my hair to lock, just didn’t feel Authentic enough. Those options just didn’t match my heart as a Rastafari.

Options for starting and maintaining dreadlocks Crochet hook - keeps locks nice and uniform. But it does change the spiritual “energy channel” of your locks, because hair becomes “interwoven” so to speak. It’s really a personal choice. Aloe and Lime Juice concoction - Many Rasta starts their locks using Aloe and Lime Juice. Two strand twists - This is probably the easiest way to start dreadlocks. Take two small secotions of hair and just twist them together. Keep in mind the size of the partition on the scalp will most likely be the size of the dreadlock. So make your “two strand twists” small if you want your dreadlocks to be small, or make your “two strand twist” large if you want your locks to be large. “Twist and hold” - The Twist and hold method is when you twist your hair and then braid the twists as a way of securing them in that Faison. I think this might work best for African hair types as it encourages the curls, which helps the dreadlocks to form. Letting it go - You could just section your hair out into braids or two strand twist or with clips, and then Just let them do their thing without any guidance. This

is the correct and most Authentic way to start or form dreadlocks as a Rasta. Your dreadlocks may have that un- uniform, uniformed appearance. My locks started like this, but somehow they look nice. I guess because I started my locks small.

Keep Dreadlocks Clean and neat! If you want your dreadlocks to be neat, clean and lint free, the best thing to do is to tie your hair in a hair cover (scarf or do rag) at night. It’s worth it. For about 6 months I chose comfort over covering, now I have lint in my hair in certain spots that I do not like to see. Lint in Dreadlocks is hard to get out. So it’s best to avoid this and to cover your dreadlocks at night time, with a scarf the same color as your hair, when you go to bed.

Righteousness, Wickedness & Virtue The Destiny of the Righteous 3 But righteous people are protected by God and will never suffer torment. 2 It is a foolish mistake to think that righteous people die and that their death is a terrible evil. 3 They leave us, but it is not a disaster. In fact, the righteous are at peace. 4 It might appear that they have suffered punishment, but they have the confident hope of immortality. 5-6 their sufferings were minor compared with the blessings they will receive. God has tested them, like gold in a furnace, and found them worthy to be with him. He has accepted them, just as he accepts the sacrifices which his worshipers burn on the altar. 7 When God comes to reward the righteous, they will blaze out against the wicked like fire in dry straw. 8 They will rule over nations and peoples, and the Lord will be their king forever. 9 Those that have put their trust in God will come to understand the truth of his ways. Those who have been faithful will live with him in his love, for he is kind

and merciful to the ones whom he has chosen.[a]

The Destiny of the Wicked 10 The ungodly, however, will get the punishment their wicked thoughts deserve, because they rebelled against the Lord and ignored what was right.[b] 11 A man who has no use for wisdom or education has a miserable life in store for him. He has nothing to hope for. His labors are useless, and he will never accomplish anything worthwhile. 12 The woman he marries will turn out to be irresponsible, and his children will go wrong. 13 All his descendants will be under a curse. The Importance of Virtue On Judgment Day God will reward the woman who has never been able to have a child, provided she has not been guilty of adultery. Then she will be happy. 14 On that day, even the man who has been castrated will be rewarded with happiness, if he has kept the Law and has not stored up resentment against the Lord. Because he has been faithful, he will receive a special reward more

precious than having children: a place in the Lord's heavenly Temple. 15 Honest deeds are like a tree that bears marvelous fruit. Wisdom is like a root that is alive and can always send up new shoots. - Blessed. King Selassie I.

Thank you reading “Rasta Way of Life.” My hope is that this book has expanded your heart to accept the wisdom of Rastafari into your soul. Unity & Blessed Love. One Heart.
