Rag Doll Bear

 

Crochet Pattern – Bear – Rag Doll This pattern is written with American (US) crochet terms Measurements: About 15.5 inches (38-40cm) tall, the head diameter is 4 inches (10cm), made from 100% Acrylic Worsted Weight Weight yarn –  “Impeccable Loops & Threads”,  “Red Heart” and “Vanna’s Choice”

What you need : * 4-5 oz (120-140g) of Worsted Weight yarn altogether : about 2 oz (50-60g) of Main Colour (Brown) yarn, about 2.5-3 oz (7085g) of yarn for the jumpsuit; small amounts of contrasting color yarn for the spots on the feet, muzzle, eyes, nose, scarf ;

* fiber fill (I use polyester hypo-allergenic fiber); I recommend polyester filling – that is what I use for stuffing toys – it is hypoallergenic, it does not lose shape after washing (unlike cotton wool); * carpet needle; black and white thread for the eyes, matching thread for sewing the ears, arms and legs (if you use regular sewing thread for attaching the parts); * stitch markers – I do not use them, instead I use yarn of contrasting color (thinner than the yarn I crochet with) that I attach at the last stitch of each round and keep threading each last stitch as the work progresses. © 2016 Elena's Times Times – Crochet T Toys oys Patterns – Rag doll Bear

 

Crochet hook:  hook:  I used 2 crochet hooks: 3.75 mm ( USA – F-5) to crochet sc sts and 4.25 mm ( USA – G-6) for the jumpsuit, for Worsted Worsted Weight Weight yarn. You You might want to use different hook – everyone's style is different. Gauge/tension:  Gauge/tension:  17-18 sc sts in 2.5 inches (10cm) for Worsted Weight Yarn. The gauge is not essential for this pattern; I give it for reference; the goal is to make stitches tight enough, so the filling does not show through the stitches. I recommend that you make a sample before starting the toy itself: you get to practice and find out your gauge. Pattern explanation: dec (sc dec) = decrease one single crochet stitch – insert the hook in the front loop of the next stitch, do not yarn over, insert the hook in the front loop of the next stitch (3 loops on the hook), yarn over and draw the yarn through the first 2 loops (2 loops on the hook), yarn over and draw through both loops on Note:: sometimes it looks better when you simply skip a stitch in order to decrease. When the hook. Note dec stands appears without a number, dec  stands for one stitch decrease; a number after this symbol indicates how many times decrease has to be made. inc (sc inc) = increase one single crochet stitch – crochet two single crochet stitches in one stitch of previous row. The number at the end of round is the number of stitches in the round (row). Dc2tog – yarn over (YO) hook, insert hook in next stitch, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook); YO hook, pull through 2 loops; YO , insert the hook in next st, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), YO, pull through dc2tog made 2 loops (3 loops on hook); YO, pull through last 3 loops. One dc2tog  made (see pictures). For example, 153, singlemeans: crochetcrochet stitch in each of the next 15 stitches of previous row (round); {scsc15  3 , means: inc } xcrochet 6  (30) one single crochet stitch in each of the next three stitches of previous row, then increase one stitch by working two single crochet stitches in next (fourth) stitch; repeat between { } 6 times around; the number of stitches in this round is 30. inc x 6 means 6 means : crochet 2 single crochet stitches in each one of the next 6 stitches  stitches  of the previous row. Changing colour To change to a “new” yarn : draw a loop with the “old” color, tie the “new” yarn to the “old” yarn; yarn over with the “new” yarn and pull out a loop of the “new” yarn. Shifting the end/beginning of rounds. In rounds.  In several rounds stitches are added after completing those rounds, but there is no increase in the number of stitches, this is done to shift the end of the round, for symmetry or convenience in the stitch count. Sew the muzzle below Rnd 13 of the head Sew the eyes between Rounds 12 and 16, with 10 sts between the centers of the eyes Sew the arms at Round 25

Sew the ears between Rounds 5 and 13, with about 20 sts between the lower points of the ears (counted at the back of the head)

Sew below Insertthe thetail legs in theRnd 8 bottom openings of the  jumpsuit, and and sew the legs legs into the openings, aligning Rnd 17 of the leg with the back loops of Round 20 of the jumpsuit.

The arrow points at one of the front loops where to insert the hook for stitches of the second row:

For the flower, ch4, connect into circle by sl st in the first ch st; ch3, sl st in the middle of the circle, ch3, sl st in the middle… make 5 petals , cut the yarn, take it out of the loop, tie both ends together, use them to tie the flower to the scarf

Sew on one part of the press stud on the other side of the flower, wrap the scarf around the neck to determine the position for the other part of the press stud

The bear in the gray jumpsuit can not sit, because I wanted to make a rag doll type toy, with little stuffing in the body or no stuffing at all; so for the gray bear I have not crocheted the extension of the body – I went straight to the jumpsuit.
