Raag Rhythm Mission The goal of Raag Rhythm is two-fold: To bring together the children of North Dallas area that share passion for rich Indian classical music, and to raise funds to help other non-profit charities with a shared vision of making a difference with music. What We Do Raag Rhythm is an orchestra group comprising talented, middle and high school students, with a passion for instrumental music and a deep interest to help make a difference in the lives of less fortunate children. These young artists are bringing this unique program by combining the western instrumental skills acquired through formal education with an age-old traditional Indian classical music. This event is brought to you by the students and generous donations from fine art lovers in the community. All raised funds are distributed to nonprofit organizations that foster musical education to children in need. History In February of 2011, a group of ambitious children with the help of their families formed Raag Rhythm. Showcasing several prominent and challenging pieces, their breathtaking performances mesmerized the audience. Now in their second year, Raag Rhythm has a participation of 64 young musicians from various middle and high schools in North Dallas area. Chief Guest For today's program, we are blessed to have an eminent vocalist Lalitha Sheshadri as the chief guest. Familiar in DFW as Lalithamami, Mrs. Sheshadri is a disciple of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Dr. Balamurali Krishna and one of the founding members of Indian Fine Arts Academy (IFAA). Her contribution in spreading Indian Classical Music in the metroplex and encouraging young and upcoming artists is phenomenal. She has been singing since 1951 and still performing in India and abroad. https://www.facebook.com/RaagRhythm

As part of the Raag Rhythm's goals to give back to the society, we identify and recognize two non-profit charities every year. These charities share a common philosophy with Raag Rhythm in that music can make a difference. We are proud to recognize the following organizations this year. All the generous donations received for this event will benefit these wonderful organizations in continuing their inspiring works.

The vision of Dr. Gustavo Tolosa, Founder and President of Musical Angels, Inc., is to create “musical hospitals” all over the United States and around the worl d in which children who are recovering from a serious health condition learn to make music with their own hands and hearts. These children would become Musical Angels Ambassadors as they leave the hospital and touch other people’s lives with their music. We serve the following hospitals: Children’s Medical Center, Our Children’s House at Baylor, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and Medical City Children’s Hospital. Please check our web site www.MusicalAngels.org for more information regarding volunteering or to donate online.

Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya A school with with a difference... difference... The Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya (KSV) provides musical and academic education to one hundred and sixty children. In addition, food, accommodation, health care and clothing are also provided, and everything is free. Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya empowers, supports and encourages children from socially marginalized and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to realize their full potential and attain a better life. This is done through an intensive and comprehensive educational program of academics and music which is undertaken in a peaceful rural residential setting. It is the fundamental right of all children to have access to education, adequate food, healthcare facilities and to participate in their community’s cultural life. This will enable them to find meaningful and well -paid employment which will have a positive impact upon them and their families. KSV is traditional and modern in its educational approach at all times. Tradition is taught through the ancient disciplines of Indian Classical Music. The modern educational programme is based on the syllabus in Karnataka State. Computer studies are also important to prepare the students to meet the demands of today’s rapidly evolving world. From its humble origins, KSV has changed the lives of so many children. They have developed aspirations to move on and pursue their talents. Support us in helping the children realize their hopes, dreams and aspirations. For more information please check out our website: www.ksv.org.in
