1. SCOPE This specification describes the requirements for Low Alloy Steel Forgings, Bar Stock, and Mechanical Tubing of Medium Strength (75,000 psi) for H2S Service (NACE) and cold temperature (-50˚F) for Bodies, Bonnets, and Flanges as described by API 6A, API 16A and NACE MR 0175. 1.1. Material Grade: AISI 4130 1.2. Raw Material Form: Forgings and Mill Shapes, Bar, and Tubing 1.3. Service: H2S, -50˚F to 250˚F 1.4. PSL: 3 1.5. Temperature Rating: L, P, R, S, T, and U 1.6. 5. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES REPORT 5.1.

Certified laboratory report stating complete chemical and physical analysis is to be furnished for all material. Reports shall be identified by the number of actual heats furnished. Residuals report is not required as long as the percentage does not exceed 1%.

6. ALLOWABLE MELTING PRACTICE Material produced to this specification shall be made to fine grain practice using one of the following melting practices: 6.1. 6.2. 6.3. 6.4. 6.5. 6.6.

Electric Furnace with Vacuum Degassing or Vacuum Processing Electric Furnace with Argon-stirred degassing Electric Furnace followed by Argon Oxygen Decarburization Electric Furnace followed by either Electro Slag Refining (ESR) or Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) Vacuum Induction Melting Electric Furnace or Induction Melting followed by a Ladle Refining process

7. HOT WORKING PRACTICES 7.1.

All hot working practices must be documented by the manufacturer utilizing one of the following processes: open die forging, close die forging, hot upset, or roll type forging.

7.2.

All wrought materials shall be of pressure vessel quality and shall be formed using a hot working practice which produces a wrought structure.

7.3.

For material produced as a forging, the minimum acceptable Total Hot Work Ratio, relative to ingot size, shall be 3:1.

8. HEAT TREATMENT 8.1.

Forgings and wrought products shall be supplied in either the normalized, quenched, and tempered condition (NQT) or in the quenched and tempered condition (QT).

8.2.

Verification of temperatures shall be of a direct, objective, mechanical or electronic means using properly calibrated equipment such as temperature gauges or thermocouples. Verification of temperatures by eye or other subjective means is expressly not allowed by this procedure.

8.3.

NQT heat treatment for forgings and wrought products shall be as follows: 8.3.1. 8.3.2. 8.3.3.

8.4.

Heat to normalizing temperature of 1600˚F to 1675˚F (871˚C to 913˚C). Hold at temperature for a minimum of 30 minutes per inch of thickness with a minimum time of 2 hours. Air-cool to below 200˚F (93˚C). Heat to austenitizing temperature of 1575˚F to 1650˚F (857˚C to 899˚C). Hold at temperature for a minimum of 30 minutes per inch of thickness with a minimum time of 2 hours. Water quench and temper at 1200˚F to 1275˚F (649˚C to 691˚C) for a minimum of 30 min/inch with a min. time of 2 Hrs ,then air cool or quench to 70˚F (21˚C).

QT heat treatment for forgings and wrought products shall be as follows: 8.4.1. Austenitize, water quench, and temper as above without normalizing.

8.5.

Quench media shall be water with the starting temperature of the quench not to exceed 100˚F (38˚C) nor shall the temperature exceed 120˚F (49˚C) during any portion of the quench cycle, including the completion of the quench. 8.5.1. 8.5.2.

8.6.

Additives may be added to improve the quenching properties of the media. Optimal temperature of the quench shall be maintained through mechanical agitation such as impellers. Mere circulation of the quench by pumping the quench media though cooling towers is not sufficient to ensure proper quenching. The agitation shall be sufficient to maintain the temperature range of the quench without additional, manual manipulation of the part being quenched. Bubble agitation is not allowed by this procedure.

Equipment, Handling, and Calibration 8.6.1.

Heat treatment operations shall be performed in batch or continuous type furnaces that have been calibrated and surveyed. Accurate calibration records for all equipment shall be maintained and available for inspection.

8.6.2.

Furnace controls shall be accurate to within +/- 25˚F (14˚C) for normalization and +/-15˚F (8˚C) for tempering.

8.6.3.

Materials shall be loaded in the furnace such that the presence of one part does not adversely affect the heat treating response of any other parts within the heat treatment load. Bundling or stacking of material is expressly NOT allowed by this procedure.

8.6.4.

Quenching shall take place in less than 60 seconds from the time the heat treatment load exits the furnace. For massive cross sections ≥ 7 inches (178 mm), up to 90 second transfers are acceptable. Transfer time starts when the furnace door is completely open until the furnace load/part is completely submerged in the quench tank. The transfer time may exceed the above listed requirements, only if it can be verified by pyrometer or contact thermocouple prior to quench, that the temperature of the part is within the temperature range defined for the austenitizing temperature or the applicable Material Specification.

8.6.5.

Surface hardness shall be measured at the end of the heat treatment process.

9. QUALIFICATION TEST COUPONS Qualification Test Coupons (QTC) shall be in accordance with the requirements of IE INDIA Specification QS/MS/003. 10. NON-DESTRUCTIVE EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Ultrasonic examination of hot worked parts shall be performed in accordance with both the flat bottom hole procedures (straight beam examination) and applicable angle beam examinations specified in ASTM A388 (except immersion method may be used) and ASTM E428. 11. WELD REPAIR No Weld repairs are permitted.

12. MATERIAL TRACEABILITY All material heat treated to this specification must adhere strictly to the following requirements for traceability: 12.1. Chemistry of the material must be available to the heat treater prior to any heat treatments. 12.2. Any prior heat treatments must be stated to the heat treater. 12.3. All material received to be heat treated must be traceable to the original heat from the steel mill. A unique identifier may be established by the heat treater for each batch of material but this identifier must be traceable to the original heat of the material. 12.4. All material to be heat treated must be accompanied by an original mill test report (MTR) describing the chemical and physical properties of the material, including information regarding test coupons, such as hardness, Charpy, etc. 12.5. All pertinent information including furnace times, temperature, and quench media must be included in the certified record of heat treatment including type of heat treatment.

13. MATERIAL IDENTIFICATION AND MARKING

13.1. Each forging shall be identified by the Heat Number, Heat Code, or Serial Number for traceability. The identifier must be either metal stamped or written with white marker at a prominent location on the forging surface. 13.2. Forgings examined by NDE-UT shall be uniquely identified to provide traceability to specific NDEUT reports. 13.3. Wrought product shall have the heat number and allow designation either metal stamped or written in white marker on each bar prior to shipment. 14. MATERIAL CERTIFICATION Each shipment of material must be accompanied by a signed certification sheet containing the following: 13.1 13.2 13.3 13.4 13.5 13.6 13.7 13.8 13.9 13.10 13.11 13.12
