overleaf - Qatar, heart of the Arabian Gulf

Qatar

Known as ‘the heart of the Arabian Gulf’, Qatar is located on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and with Bahrain lying to its northwest. Already a well-established pearling center in the mid-18th century, Qatar has become one of the richest Gulf states, thanks to its vast oil and gas resources. It has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. Today, the hustle and bustle of progress is everywhere as Qatar pursues its goal of becoming a world-class business, leisure and knowledge destination. Education City, site of the new convention centre, is a 14 million square meter academic and research precinct hosting satellite campuses of five of the world’s leading universities, research institutes, a science and technology park and a women’s hospital. Conference organizers will find everything they need to host highly successful and very enjoyable meetings in Qatar. In addition to the first-class hotels and facilities available, all eyes are on the completion of one of the Middle East’s largest convention venues - the Qatar National Convention Centre.

Why meet in Qatar? Easy access

Qatar Airways, Gulf Air and Emirates fly to the capital city of Doha from anywhere in the Gulf, most of Asia, as well as from New York, Europe, India and Pakistan. There are also flights from Cairo, Sydney and Nairobi. Flight time
from London to Doha is approximately 8½ hours.

People and language

Qataris are friendly and extremely hospitable. English is widely spoken.

Sun-kissed country

Qatar enjoys sunshine and inspirational blue skies just about every day of the year.

World-class accommodation

The luxury hotel chains are well represented and there’s a range of three and four star properties too.

Great food everywhere

Qatar takes an international approach to dining; Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Thai flavours mingle with those of Italy, France, and the Mediterranean. Fresh seafood from the Arabian Gulf as well as traditional Arabian delicacies are equally tempting.

Unique pre and post conference experiences

Take an exciting desert safari, see the oryx in their natural surroundings, marvel at the beauty of pure-bred Arab show and race horses, or enjoy a sunset cruise on a traditional dhow in Doha Bay.
