I&R Draft submission: 10th October 2014, Friday Final submission: 7th November 2014, Friday - 500 words in full prose - Font size 12 - Attach I and R cover page - GI (ideas are insightful and/or innovative  Devise a better way of doing things) - AEI (Ideas are thoroughly analyzed and evaluated  Evaluate decisions used in the entire PW process) Your I&R should discuss the following: - Strengths and/or limitations of the project ideas or processes - Other possible ideas or approaches that your group could have adopted Areas (ideas/processes) to consider  Choice of topic - Challenges that arose because of choice of topic (AEI) What are the circumstances that resulted in this challenge (don’t just identify, must explain how challenge arises) - Plausible solutions you might consider to tackle those challenges (GI) e.g. Due to your target group – it is difficult to come up with a sample size of even 30 people - What are some strength/ weaknesses of your solutions (AEI) Research focus - What new knowledge did you gain about the topic (AEI) and how has this knowledge impacted your project (GI) Any other parts of the project that you can read about to have a better understanding of your target group - Has your project enabled you to rethink your views on the Singapore society and the different roles of key players? (AEI) e.g. preconceived notions  after doing the project, what have you realized that made you change your action plan - How have your encounters with the various stakeholders changed your perceptions? (AEI) - What other new domains of knowledge would you acquire to learn more about your target group?  Research methodology - Method used to collect info Primary: Surveys, interviews, pilots, focus group, discussions, observations) How did you conduct the survey, how accurate was it; survey questions used: does it result in accurate or inaccurate results - Reflection on primary research method In what ways was the primary r/s limited

What other alternative research method would you propose? How would alternative method be able to resolve the problem?  Action plan idea, implementation of action plan - What are the strengths and weaknesses of action plans E.g. Assumptions made about target group/ stakeholders E.g. Different agenda of stakeholders E.g. Choice of target group - What improvements/ changes can you suggest to tackle the limitations? Provide account and analysis. What has given rise to this particular problem/ weakness? Do not just state. - What other approaches would you consider? - Why? Implementation of Action Plan - What difficulties do you foresee if you were to implement your proposal (AEI) - How would you overcome these difficulties (GI) e.g. sustainability; maybe it does not address the target group profile; Does it appeal to your target group? Is there a win-win situation?  if there isn’t, then why would they want to collaborate with you? Suggested format  AEI  GI  AEI Evaluate limitations of ideas  details of proposed change  justification or further evaluation for proposed change  From the 5 areas, choose 3 and do 3 sets of AEI  GI  AEI DOS -

Provide insights on project ideas to show critical thinking and maturity Reflect on wider implications – on other areas, issues, segments of society etc.

AVOID - Repeating WR - Don’t whine about time management issues etc. (those that affects all groups) - Attempt to answer some useful questions in the guide - “We had a lot of conflicts working with each other …” We surveyed 30 youths in Boys’ Town our stakeholder. As most of our respondents are still schooling and have never been employed, they may not have a thorough understanding of sg’s employment scene. Thus they may ;ack the necessary knowledge to respond to questions pertiaining to how current measures can be imporved upon to help them seek employ, ent. Their ability to answer such questions may be hampered, which compromises the usefulness of our survey resuls. One possible improvement would be to attach a booklet containint employmentrelated info to each survey. This booklet will contain detailed write-ups on different carrers’ requirement and will outline qualities employers look for in

potential employees. Furthermore, the booklet will give a concise summary about sg’s employment scene. Hence, our respondents acquire understanding … Another proposed shortcoming is that our proposed guide may not be able to respond to the changing needs and interests of OSYs. Although we did consider OSY’s needs when crafting our proposed guide, there is a possibility that their needs may change overtime as they may require more career guidance to plan their carrer path, which we did not address. Consequently, OSYs may feel that these measures are not relevant in helping them gain employment and lose interest. Hence…. (…) Boys’ town can facilitate a monthly meeting between OSYS and co workers or employees that they are in dispute with, with the counselor acting as a mediator. The counserlor can help both parties reach a consensus, thus resolving the dispute. This enables OSYs to overcome problems more effectively as the counselor can obtain different perpectives from diff parties. Thus, our counselors may give OSYs better advice and help OSYs solve their workplace problems simultaneously, thus mitigating the risks that businesses take.

OP

1. Fluency and clarity of speech (speaks clearly and fluently at an appropriate pace) 2. Awareness of audience (shows personal engagement with audience) - What does your audience need from you - Tell them about: current strategies, cheem terms, make them interested in the topic  as if it will affect them so they have to listen, eye-contact - Which is the best way to tell them the: story, statistics 3. Responses to questions (Answers are relevant, well thought out and elaborated on) - Answer, elaborate and link back to question  don’t use it as a prompt 4. Effectiveness of group presentation (Presentation is highly effective, cohesive and well-organized. Presentation aids used to effectively enhance overall effect)

CONTROL YOUR PERFORMANCE: You choose how to speak You choose how to move Prepare for your routine GROUP EFFECTIVENESS - This criterion focuses on the group’s collective ability to deliver an effective presentation - Group cohesiveness is evident when: 1. Each speaker’s portion is clearly defined 2. Coherent flow among speakers 3. Transitions among speakers are smooth 4. Visuals are well timed with delivery (clicking of slides; your group mates will help click the slides properly and on time; you don’t even have to look back to check on the slides = PRACTISE) 5. Props (pamphlets, booklets to demonstrate what you’ve done etc.) and visuals (powerpoint: choice of animation for powerpoint + pictures + videos + colours of ppt matter) are used appropriately - Make sure that theme is consistent - Make sure that energy level is consistent REMEMBER TO S-M-I-L-E SET audience expectations MAKE it visual ILLUSTRATE with stories and analogies (recounting narratives) LINK sections among speakers ELABORATE without being asked TAKE NOTE - Don’t spell wrongly - Too many points = cant bring out the main point - Don’t use booming colours or bad colour combi - The more data = the harder to read the slides - Font choice matters

-

Use consistent images (cartoon = cartoon all the way) Use relatable images (those that relate to your target group – shows awareness of your audience) Avoid contrived images Use high quality images Use clear background (Dark-coloured words on light-coloured, simple background (one colour) is more effective) If you have points to share  make sure they are key points and if you have info to share  make sure they support your points very very very STRONGLY!! Use relatable figures (1400 000 people  20%  1 in 5  using pictures 1 highlighted person out of 5 highlighted people)

INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT (about 4-4.5 minutes per person) This criterion focuses on candidates’ ability to speak fluently, clearly and at an appropriate pace. - Enunciation (if you have problem with a word, change the word  form sounds into words that are clear and distinct) - Articulation (being able to express one’s self clearly) - Pronunciation (saying the sounds of a word properly and stressing the correct syllable) - Speed PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!
