INTRODUCTION Mian Amir Mehmood, owner of the Punjab Group of Colleges, it is working under a private company named ABLE DIVERSIFIED established Punjab College of Commerce in 1985 in Muslim Town on Canal Bank in Lahore, followed a few years later by the Punjab Law College. Since the establishment of first College of Commerce the network of Punjab Colleges has grown to 70 colleges in thirty one cities of Pakistan. Punjab College of Business Administration (PCBA) was established in 1991 and Punjab Institute of Computer Science (PICS), in 1993, at Lahore. „Punjab College of Information Technology‟ (PCIT), was established in Lahore in 2000. The Group has within a period of 26 years, not only established as many as 183 college campuses, but also have : 2 Universities 250+ Schools over 1,44,000 students on roll 700000 Alumni Premium faculty of 95 foreign, and local Ph.D's More than 4500 foreign and local masters degree holders 3,25,150 Library books and Journals 128 Libraries 5000+ Latest Computers 520 Multimedia Projectors 167 Fully equipped Science Labs 107 High Tech Computer Labs The foreign and local masters‟ degree holders, with vast experience and high repute to their credit. Such a highly qualified and experienced faculty is duly supported by the best teachingaids and a student body with the highest potential to pursue studies in the finest possible learning environment. The above description is of about all campuses in Pakistan ,but we visited only four branches in Lahore for the accomplishment of our project of IT. So if we concern only with these branches then the data is as like as: over 21,000 students on roll 25,150 Library books and Journals 3 Libraries 1200+ Latest Computers

ESTABLISHMENT OF “PICS” Mian Amir Mehmood, owner of the Punjab Group of Colleges, after establishing the Punjab Law College and a chain of Punjab Commerce Colleges ventured into computer sciences and setup the Punjab Institute of Computer Sciences (PICS). The first campus of PICS was on Main Boulevard, Gulberg to promote IT in his chain of colleges. The College has been established to

promote the application of Computer Science / IT, General Science, Pre-Engg., Commerce & Humanities fields. It caters to fulfill the requirements of Government and Semi-government Departments as well as Private Sectors in Pakistan and abroad. Youth of today is at the threshold of a new era. As 21st century dawns upon us, we have to prepare and equip ourselves to face the challenges of time. No doubt emerging sciences play a vital role in encountering these challenges. Punjab Computer College offers its students a comprehensive training to meet the challenges of the global market. College offers courses at Intermediate/ Degree Levels in Commerce/ Computer Science/ Pre-Engg., General Science, Humanities & Business Administration. We believe that modern methods and approaches must be employed to enable the students to acquire knowledge with clear concepts coupled with liability to use it confidently in practical situations so that if they want to continue their respective subject studies at advance Level they shall have a sound base to begin with. Computer and Commerce Education To compete with the challenges of the 21st Century, the Colleges have introduced Computer Courses to equip the younger generation with basic computer skills at Inter and B.Com levels. These Computer Courses are continually updated to provide students the best technological learning environment. The students of I.Com. and B.Com. are required to complete Basic Computer Courses, though they are not treated as compulsory subjects by the Board or University. It is a big step towards acquiring students with new business information systems. Computer Centers are well equipped with the best teaching facilities.

Co-Curricular Activities 1. Quiz Programmes: Quiz programmes are an integral part of the academic session of the college. They aim at providing entertainment and education to the students at the same time because the questions asked in these programmes are set from the syllabus. 2. Debates: The Literary Society of the College organizes debate competitions every year on burning issues in order to polish the communication skills and confidence of the students. Judges are the celebrities from different walks of life. 3. Mehfil-e-Milad: The life of our beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) has always been a beacon of light for the humanity. In order to pay homage to the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the college organizes a Mehfil- e- Milad every year during the last decade of Ramadan. 4. Annual Mushaira: Annual Mushaira is yet another co-curricular event aimed at enhancing and applauding the creative literary spirit of the youth. Students feel elevated when they get an opportunity to recite their poetic effort before the prominent literary figures of the country. 5. Musical Concerts: Musical concerts are like whiffs of fresh breeze that break the tiresome and hectic routine of studies at the college. Both students and teachers enjoy such musical evenings a lot. 6. Cultural Festivals: To revive our cultural norms in the era of prevailing foreign influence, the college plays its part by organizing cultural festivals every year. 7. Tours: Recreational trips to Murree, Kallar Kahaar, Swat and Kaghan are the most awaited entertaining events in the college life of the students at Punjab College.

INCENTIVES Incentives have always been a source of inspiration for students. These awards encourage talented students to work harder and attain good results in their examinations. Position holders are the pride of their alma-mater. The Punjab College offers a number of incentives for all those students who perform exceptionally well in their exams. Students securing top positions in F.Sc, I.C.S, I. Com and University examinations are awarded brand new motorbikes or cars. Moreover, they are offered free education in other institutions of Group. The College offers Merit Scholarship and free education for Academic Brilliance. All students who have passed Intermediate examination from any of our Colleges get a 25% concession in B.Com. and B.Sc. 50% concession will be given to the kinship cases. 25% concession will be given to the teachers' children. Teachers who are drawing their salaries from the government treasury will get 25% fee concession for their sons/daughters. The College grants a fee-concession for deserving students at the time of admission. This concession is renewable at the time of every fee installment. Students benefitting from this assistance , must get their concession forms duly signed by the Principal. Students are eligible for attendance awards and distinction certificates for their punctuality and outstanding performance in different disciplines.

DATA COLLECTION What is Data? Data is a collection of raw facts & figures, such as values or measurements. It can be numbers, words, measurements, observations or even just descriptions of things. Data is of two types: 1. Primary data 2. Secondary data

What is Information? Meaningful and processed data is known as information. Information is any kind of knowledge that is exchangeable amongst people, about things, facts, concepts, etc., in some context.

What are different Data Collection Techniques? There are different techniques to collect the data .The techniques are given below: A) For Primary data collection 1: Observation method 2: Interview/Questionnaire method 3: Case study method B) For Secondary data collection 1: Internet based technique

Data Collection technique that we use to complete this project We use the survey and internet based techniques to complete this project .In collecting primary data we use survey,in survey we use interview and questionnaire both to collect the data about total students enrolled, result ratio and overall toppers from last three years.In collecting secondary data we use internet to collect the data. We interviewed Mr. Asif Usmania at Punjab college who is the IT manager in the college and also deals with the IT day-to-day affairs in the college. We present the questionnaire to him and he deal us in a good manner and provide us relevant data to our project.

Getting Familiar with Microsoft Word 2007 for Windows

The Microsoft Office Button

In the upper-left corner of the Word 2007 window is the Microsoft Office button. When you click the button, a menu appears. You can use the menu to create a new file, open an existing file, save a file, and perform many other tasks.

The Quick Access Toolbar

Next to the Microsoft Office button is the Quick Access toolbar. The Quick Access toolbar provides you with access to commands you frequently use

The Title Bar

Next to the Quick Access toolbar is the Title bar. The Title bar displays the title of the document on which you are currently working. Word names the first new document you open Document1.

The Ribbon

You use commands to tell Microsoft Word what to do. In Microsoft Word 2007, you use the Ribbon to issue commands. The Ribbon is located near the top of the screen.

The Ruler

The ruler is found below the Ribbon.

The Text Area

Just below the ruler is a large area called the text area. You type your document in the text area. The blinking vertical line in the upper-left corner of the text area is the cursor. It marks the insertion point. As you type, your text displays at the cursor location. The horizontal line next to the cursor marks the end of the document.

The Vertical and Horizontal and Vertical Scroll Bars

The vertical and horizontal scroll bars enable you to move up, down, and across your window simply by dragging the icon located on the scroll bar. The vertical scroll bar is located along the right side of the screen. The horizontal scroll bar is located just above the status bar. To move up and down your document, click and drag the vertical scroll bar up and down. To move back and forth across your document, click and drag the horizontal scroll bar back and forth. You won't see a horizontal scroll bar if the width of your document fits on your screen. 8)

The Status Bar

The Status bar appears at the very bottom of your window. You can change what displays on the Status bar by right-clicking on the Status bar and selecting the options you want from the Customize Status Bar menu. You click a menu item to select it. You click it again to deselect it. A check mark next to an item means it is selected.

Understanding Document Views

In Word 2007, you can display your document in one of five views: Draft, Web Layout, Print Layout, Full Screen Reading, or Online Layout. Draft View Draft view is the most frequently used view. Create Sample Data and Select Text

If you type =rand() in your Word document and then press Enter, Word creates three paragraphs. You can use these paragraphs to practice what you learn. Throughout these lessons, you will be asked to select text. The following exercise teaches you how to create data and how to select data. You can select by using the arrow keys or by clicking and dragging. When using the arrow keys, use the up arrow to move up, the down arrow to move down, the left arrow to move left, and the right arrow to move right. The Microsoft Office Button

In the upper-left corner of the Excel 2007 window is the Microsoft Office button. When you click the button, a menu appears. You can use the menu to create a new file, open an existing file, save a file, and perform many other tasks. 3)

The Quick Access Toolbar

Next to the Microsoft Office button is the Quick Access toolbar. The Quick Access toolbar gives you with access to commands you frequently use. By default, Save, Undo, and Redo appear on the Quick Access toolbar. You can use Save to save your file, Undo to roll back an action you have taken, and Redo to reapply an action you have rolled back . 4)

The Title Bar

Next to the Quick Access toolbar is the Title bar. On the Title bar, Microsoft Excel displays the name of the workbook you are currently using. At the top of the Excel window, you should see "Microsoft Excel - Book1" or a similar name. 5)

You use commands to tell Microsoft Excel what to do. In Microsoft Excel 2007, you use the Ribbon to issue commands. 6)

Microsoft Excel consists of worksheets. Each worksheet contains columns and rows. The columns are lettered A to Z and then continuing with AA, AB, AC and so on; the rows are numbered 1 to 1,048,576. The number of columns and rows you can have in a worksheet is limited by your computer memory and your system resources. Cell Address The combination of a column coordinate and a row coordinate make up a cell address. For example, the cell located in the upper-left corner of the worksheet is cell A1, meaning column A, row 1. Cell E10 is located under column E on row 10. You enter your data into the cells on the worksheet. 7)

The Formula Bar Formula Bar

If the Formula bar is turned on, the cell address of the cell you are in displays in the Name box which is located on the left side of the Formula bar. Cell entries display on the right side of the Formula bar. 8)

The Status Bar

The Status bar appears at the very bottom of the Excel window and provides such information as the sum, average, minimum, and maximum value of selected numbers.

Go to -- F5/ Ctrl+G

The F5 function key is the "Go To" key. If you press the F5 key, you are prompted for the cell to which you wish to go. Enter the cell address, and the cursor jumps to that cell.You can also use Ctrl+G to go to a specific cell. 

The Name Box

You can also use the Name box to go to a specific cell. Just type the cell you want to go to in the Name box and then press Enter.

CONCLUSION We have visited Punjab Group of Colleges. There we met IT Manager of PGC Mr. ASIF USMANIA there we discussed IT Management of PGC. It is concluded that Punjab Group of Colleges is a leading teaching institution in private sector of Pakistan due to its IT advancement and teacher delegation. We observed that Punjab College introduced ICS programme, separate IT institution, alumni for students to stay in touch with them, they keep computerized based record keeping system. We hope that Punjab College will continue its struggle to promote IT.
