PSYCHO GRAVITY   T-269 The magician displays a transparent board with four different fruits written on its i ts surface. A spectator is invited to select one of the th e fruits, and hide that selection from view. The transparent board is tilted up to form a ramp. The magician places a black cylinder at the top of the ramp, and it slowly rolls downward. However… the cylinder mysteriously stops when it reaches the selected fruit!

PREPARING THE CYLINDER Hold the cylinder in both hands, as shown in the diagram. Push your thumbs against the front surface (the side with narrow concentric circles) to disassemble the unit.

This bafing trick has never been seen before b efore – a black cylinder dees gravity, and accurately reveals a thought-of item. The cylinder rolls downward, yet mysteriously stops at the correct location. You will enjoy fooling your friends with this unusual and newly designed gimmick.

 About the Cylinder and Board: The rolling surface of the cylinder and the upper surface of the board must be kept clean and scratch-free. Be careful not to damage or allow dirt to build up on these surfaces as this will affect the ability to properly control the cylinder.

 About the Enclosed Liquid: Before performing, you will insert a special liquid into a secret chamber within the cylinder. This liquid is safe, however if it comes into contact with your mouth or eyes, immediately gargle or rinse with water to remove traces of the substance from your body body.. When you run out of the enclosed liquid, you can replace with liquid

Insert a few drops of the enclosed liquid into the main body of the cylinder.. When you close the lid in a moment, you must ensure that the cylinder liquid reaches the horizontal “fill line” indicated in the drawing below. When you stand the cylinder in a vertical position, the liquid will move within the main body, so wait 15 seconds to let the liquid settle before adding more, as needed.

 About the Whiteboard Marker: If you find that the whiteboard marker ink does not easily erase from the transparent board, please use a slightly damp tissue or cloth to wipe away any residue. When the enclosed whiteboard marker runs out of ink, replace it with a normal whiteboard w hiteboard marker commercially available in stores.

THE SECRET J  Construction of the Cylinder 

Liquid must not exceed the level of this “fill line”

 Y  You ou will insert the enclosed liquid into the cylinder, cylinder, and the liquid itself will enable you to control the rolling distance. The liquid is viscous and moves slowly inside a secret chamber within the cylinder. In addition, there is a divider located inside the chamber that enables the cylinder to stop rolling due to the liquid’s position. Depending on the angle in which you start the cylinder atop the ramp, you can control the location where the cylinder will stop rolling.

If you accidentally spill the liquid, be sure to wipe up with a tissue or cloth.

 

Make certain that you have completely sealed the lid shut on the main body of the cylinder, and then reassemble all the pieces.

2 Decide where you want the cylinder to stop rolling.

3 Place the stand under the right or left end of the transparent board, creating a ramp. Or Push with both thumbs until the cylinder is completely shut. The cylinder now looks exactly as it did before opening. The edge of the stand and the edge of the board must be aligned

CONTROLLING THE CYLINDER  Y  You ou will now learn how to con control trol where the cylinder cylinder stops rolling down the sloped board. This method will be used throughout all the presentations, so pay close attention to this section.

4 The cylinder has been resting in a vertical position on top of the tissue paper.. It must remain vertical for at least 30 seconds before performing. paper By waiting 30 seconds, the liquid inside will have completely settled at the bottom of the inner chamber.

5 Depending on which position you want the cylinder to stop rolling, you must place it at the top of the ramp in a specific orientation. Pay attention to the position of the Tenyo Tenyo logo in the following diagram.

A B C D The cylinder will stop rolling due to a delicate balance between the board’s board’ s angle, and the liquid loaded in the cylinder cylinder.. Your performance table must be level and stable. 1 Stand the cylinder vertically on top of the folded tissue paper, with the Tenyo Tenyo logo on the upper edge facing you. Once set in this position, the liquid inside will begin to sink to the bottom of the chamber inside the cylinder. cylinder.

6 Once you have turned the cylinder to the correct angle, you must wait at least 15 seconds. By waiting 15 seconds, the liquid inside will settle at the bottom of the inner chamber.

ɶ A    DVICE DVICE: Keep the cylinder flat on its side until you are ready to roll it down the ramp. As

you let go of the cylinder, give it a slight push to ensure that it rolls smoothly down the ramp.

2 Stand the cylinder on its edge and place it onto the folded tissue paper.. The cylinder must be positioned so that the Tenyo paper Tenyo logo is on the upper edge facing you. Line up the center of the cylinder with the uppermost white line

8 Remove your hand and let go of the cylinder. It will begin to roll slowly down the ramp, then stop, then start moving again. It appears as if the cylinder is having a hard time deciding where to stop as it rolls down the ramp. At last, the cylinder will stop rolling at the designated position.

9 Once the cylinder has stopped rolling, pick it up and remove it from the transparent board.

3 Say, “Let’s try an unusual experiment. I will write four different fruits  Use the whiteboard marker to write the name of four onto the board.”  Use different fruits into the four spaces of the transparent board. As you can see in the diagram, each word should be short enough that it can fit between the white lines. Say, “Please choose one of these f ruits in your head, but do not tell  me which which one.”  Your spectator will mentally select select one of the four fruits.

J  Troubleshooting – If the cylinder does not stop accurately:

If you find that the cylinder does not stop accurately in the designated position, check the following pointers. • The table you are performing on must be level and sturdy. • If the cylinder or transparent board have any scratches or dirt on their surfaces, the cylinder may stop rolling at the incorrect position. • Check to confirm that you have not overfilled or underfilled the liquid inside the inner chamber. Be sure to hold the cylinder in the correct orientation, and be certain • to wait the required number of seconds before placing the cylinder atop the ramp.

J  Performance

1 Rest one end of the transparent board on top of the stand, creating a ramp. Say, “I’ll show you something with this unusual wheel – it can read   Place the cylinder at the top of the ramp, the thoughts of people.”  Place and allow it to roll down.  After this brief display display,, remove the transparent board from the stand, and lay the board flat on the table in front of your spectator.

Instruct your spectator to draw a black dot above his chosen fruit, and to cover the board with the sheet so that his selection is hidden.  Ask your your spec spectator tator if he is done, and and then turn your body to face front front once again. Put the marker away.

10 Release the cylinder and allow it to roll down the ramp. It will mysteriously stop at the chosen fruit.

Remove the cylinder and place it on the table. Slide away the sheet to reveal that the cylinder has correctly divined the chosen fruit.

Glance down at the edge of the transparent board. You will see a reflection of one portion of the black dot. The location of this reflection secretly indicates the location of the fruit your spectator has chosen.      a     n      a     n      a         B

  DVICE ɶ A  DVICE: In this description we have suggested that you divine a chosen fruit. However, you can use any four words instead of fruit to create an entertaining presentation of your own. Some examples -- major cities from around the world (eg: Chicago, Paris, Cairo, Sydney) or the names of a spectator’s best friends. Be sure that the words you write are shorter, rather than longer, words. If the words are too long, then it becomes more difficult to secretly peek the black dot on the edge of the board.

7 Say, “This wheel will attempt to discover which fruit you have  selected.” Insert the stand under the transparent board to create a ramp.

PERFORMANCE 2: FOUR ACE TEST In this presentation, the cylinder reveals a chosen ace.

ɶ A    DVICE DVICE: You may insert the stand under either the right or left end of the board. However, it is suggested that you insert the stand under the end that will enable a longer roll. It is more entertaining if the cylinder rolls a longer distance.

Cylinder, loaded with liquid Cylinder, Transparent Board Stand Folded tissue paper  Four aces from a deck of playing cards (provide your own cards)   Arrange the four aces so that they they are all pointing in the same direction, as shown in the diagram. The center pip (club, heart, spade) are all oriented so that they read correctly, correctly, not upside down. The diamond does not have a top or bottom, so you do not have to pay attention to its orientation. Top Top

8 Pick up the cylinder and place it at the top of the ramp. Rotate the cylinder as necessary to cause it to stop rolling at the chosen fruit’s location. 9 Say, “Please think about the fruit you’ve chosen. Focus on its  shape, its color, and even its taste.”   Your spectator will begin to create a mental image of his chosen fruit. You need to allow at least 15 seconds to pass, and the following byplay will cover the necessary delay.. Keeping the cylinder in its identical orientation, raise it to your delay spectator’s spectator’ s forehead and appear to “absorb” the information from his brain. Or, you may wish to hold the cylinder in front of his eyes, and ask him to stare at t he center.  After at least 15 seconds have passed, say, “You did an excellent  job. Remove the card he touched and show the face of the card to your audience. Ask them to remember the suit of the chosen ace.

 

4 Once your audience has remembered the suit of the chosen ace, return it to the packet but in the opposite orientation to the remaining three cards. In other words, turn the chosen ace end for end as you return it to the packet. This can be done very casually as you look at, and talk to, your audience. 5 Hold the packet of aces face down, and shuffle them thoroughly so that the order is unknown. If you wish, you can hand the cards to your spectator to shuffle. However, as before, be sure that none of the cards turn end-for-end during this shuffle. spectator,, and spread them face 6 Take the shuffled packet from your spectator up between your hands. Say, “Now there is no way for me to know which ace you chose.”   As you speak, glance down at the face up aces. In this moment, you will be able to easily discover which ace has been chosen by look-

ing at the center pips. If you see one pip that is reversed, this is the chosen ace. However if you do not see a reversed card, the chosen card was the ace of diamonds.

7 Turn the aces face down and place them onto the table in an overlapping row. Keep track of the position of the spectator’s selected card. Place the transparent board and stand on top of the aces, and create a ramp. The edge of each playing card must line up with the white lines depicted on the transparent board, so adjust the spread of cards as necessary.

MENTAL 8 From this point forward, execute steps 8~10 as explained in MENTAL FRUIT. The cylinder will roll down the ramp and stop at the chosen ace. Remove this ace from the spread, turn it face up, and show your audience the selected card. ɶ A    DVICE DVICE:

In step 7, it is preferable to have the chosen ace in position 3 or 4. The cylinder will roll for a longer distance before stopping, and this appears more magical to the audience.

MAINTENANCE

• • •

Once you have inserted the liquid into the cylinder, always store it with the spiral design surface pointing upward. Do not store the enclosed liquid in a location that receives direct sunlight, or someplace with excessively high or low temperatures. If you need to wash the cylinder cylinder,, completely disassemble the pieces and rinse with water. Allow the pieces to air dry dr y.
