TAFE NSW ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DEGREE COURSES One of the following English language criteria must be met:    

A minimum overall score of 6.5 Academic IELTS with no band lower than 6; or A minimum score of 79 TOEFL IBT; or A minimum score of 58 PTE Academic; or Satisfactory completion of the TAFE NSW Certificate 4 in English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT TAFE NSW The information outlined below should be read in conjunction with the TAFE NSW Higher Education Student Progression, Exclusion and Graduation Procedures document, which is available for download at: https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/policies/students/high_edu/prog_exl/pro_exprod.pdf.

ESOS FRAMEWORK  Australia’s laws promote quality education and consumer protection for overseas students. These laws are known as the ESOS framework and they include the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 and the National Code. COURSE PROGRESS REQUIREMENTS  You must meet course progress requirements. Requirements include passing 50 percent of the subjects attempted in a semester, as required by the TAFE NSW Higher Education Course Progress Policy. Students in English language courses must meet minimum attendance requirements. Students in a vocational course must meet the course progress policy of the Department of Education (DE) and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). If you do not meet progress and/or attendance requirements, you may be reported to DIBP. Further information about the DE-DIBP course progress policy is available at www.studyintafe.edu.au  Your enrolment in each semester must enable you to complete the course in the period stated in your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). You must not withdraw from any units in the course without the approval of the college international student co-ordinator.

DEFERRAL, SUSPENSION AND CANCELLATION OF STUDY  If you wish to postpone the start of your studies (deferral), you must obtain approval from DEC International Students. If you are going to be absent for a week or more during semester you must request approval from your college international coordinator. If the absence is for more than 2 weeks this is considered a suspension and is reported to DIBP. Deferral or suspension of studies is approved only on compelling or compassionate grounds.  Compassionate or compelling circumstances are generally circumstances which are beyond the control of the student and which have an impact upon the student’s course progress or wellbeing. These could include, but are not limited to:  serious illness or injury, where a medical certificate states that the student was unable to attend classes; or  bereavement of close family members such as parents or grandparents (where possible a death certificate should be provided); or  major political upheaval or natural disaster in the home country requiring emergency travel and this has impacted on the student’s studies; or  a traumatic experience which could include: » involvement in, or witnessing of a serious accident; or » witnessing or being the victim of a serious crime,  and this has impacted on the student (these cases should be supported by police or psychologist reports); or  where the registered provider was unable to offer a prerequisite unit; or  where the student is unable to begin studying on the course commencement date due to delay in receiving a student visa.  TAFE NSW may suspend or cancel your enrolment if you are absent from your course without approval for more than 2 consecutive weeks in a semester, or if

you do not pay tuition fees when they are due, or if you breach the student discipline policy. More information about deferral, suspension or cancellation will be given to you at orientation and is available at: www.studyintafe.edu.au

TRANSFER OF PROVIDER  A request to transfer provider within the first six months of the principal course of study will not be approved, except for in the circumstances outlined in the guidelines and procedures available at http://www.decinternational.nsw.edu.au/study#esos-framework  Approval will not be given for a transfer of provider based on lower fees or shorter completion times offered by another provider.  ‘Principal course’ is the highest qualification (normally the last course), where the student visa covers multiple courses.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS  You must continue to have sufficient financial capacity to support your study and stay in Australia. Information about living in Australia, including indicative costs of living and accommodation options is available at: www.studyintafe.edu.au  You must notify your TAFE College of your residential address within 7 days of arriving in Australia and also notify any changes to your address within 7 days of the change.  You must maintain your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the whole period of your stay in Australia on a student visa.  If you are under 18 years of age and are in accommodation, support and welfare arrangements approved by TAFE NSW, you must not change those arrangements without the written approval of DEC International Students or English Language Centre.  Any school aged dependents accompanying you to Australia will be required to pay full fees if they are enrolled in either a government or non-government school.  The student work visa conditions are measured as 40 hours per fortnight. DIBP defines a fortnight as a period of 14 days commencing on any Monday and ending on the second following Sunday. You are restricted to 40 hours per fortnight once your course has commenced and during any period in which your course in is session, You are able to work unrestricted hours during any scheduled course break. You cannot undertake work until you have commenced your course in Australia.
