Title: Structural analysis and design of a small hydropower plant. Introduction:

Electricity is one of the major forms of energy used all over the world. Its wide use & growing demand is due to its versatile nature i.e. it can be readily converted into heat, light, motion or any other forms as and when required. It may be generated by a number of sources as water, nuclear power, thermal plant, solar power, wind power & tidal power. However, among all these different sources w ater is the dominant source for generating electricity bec ause its environment friendly, water itself acts as fuel which is cheap & renewable and lastly it is very efficient for peaking load as c ompared to other sources. In context of Nepal, there are more over 6000 rivers & rivulets carrying about 225 billion cubic meter of  water every year. This constitutes huge & viable resource for hydropower gener ation in the country. The theoretical hydropower potential of  Nepal is estimated to be 83000 MW of which 42000 MW is economically viable. According to statistics of NEA (2059 B.S.) only 584.55 unit of electrical power has been produced which is 1.3% of the economic potential. As such huge hydropower potential is still unexploitated & untapped. If this unexploitated hydropower is utilized then it can c ontribute to the socio-economic development of the people& lead the country towards prosperity in the future. Objective: •

To study & analyze the geo-hydrological situation of the site.

To design the structural components of the hydropower plant at the site.

To estimate cost of development & possible benefit after construction of the plant, to evaluate the financial viability of the project.

To assess socio-economic & environmental impacts from the co nstruction of plant and try to mitigate them as much as possible.

Methodology:

The following procedures would be followed to accomplish the above mentioned objectives: •

Project site selection.

Definition of the problem & setting object ives.

Review of the theoretical aspects of the project.

Design calculation of the structural components from the data collected.

Preparation of the drawings of the components based on design calculation.

Discussion with experts & supervisor.

Preparation of the final report.

Expected Output:

After the completion of the project, proj ect, the prepared report would help the concerned authority having the right for construction of hydropower and they would check the feasibility of the plant based on the report at the site .If its feasible to construct the hydropower plant at the site then the plant will be constructed else other alternative sites will be taken under consideration and studied. Time Schedule: Works
