PROCEDURE FOR HOT BOLTING

INTRODUCTION:

The correc correctt pla placem cement ent of gas gasket ket and pro proper per tighte tightenin ning g of bol bolts ts in a flanged joint will ensure a leak free joint. In case of high temperature serv se rvic ice, e, it is requ requir ired ed to carr carry y ou outt hot hot bo bolt ltin ing g al also so to en ensu sure re pr prop oper  er  tightening of the joints. The following procedure describes how to do hot bolting.

PROCEDURE:



!ot bolting should be started once the temperature reaches around



"##o$. %t this temperature, first round of hot bolting should be carried out. 

&econd round of hot bolting should be carried out when temperatures are about '(#o$. It should be noted that if the ma)imum operating temperature which the joint will reach is less than '(# o$, then final



round of hot bolting should be carried out at that temperature. *inal round of hot bolting should be carried out at around +(# o$.



$are should be taken to see that there are no leaks after the hot bolting is complete.


