Purpose of Controlling a Stage The purpose of the Controlling a Stage process is to assign work to be done, monitor such work, deal with issues,

report progress to the Project Board, and take corrective actions to ensure that the stage remains within tolerance.[1]

Objective of Controlling a Stage The objective is to ensure that: ●

the team includes Team Managers, team members and

suppliers; ●

the Project Manager receives accurate progress information on a regular basis;



the work allocated to the team is formally agreed upon and authorised; and



the team is clearly aware of the product, cost, timeline, effort estimates and tolerances.

Controlling a Stage—Activities Controlling a Stage activities are Project Manager oriented. The Project Manager may receive multiple Checkpoint Reports during a stage. The activities for the Project Manager is related to: ●

Work Packages—Authorise a Work Package, review

Work Package status through Checkpoint Report, Receive completed Work Packages. ●

Monitoring and reporting—Review the stage status, report

the progress of the stage to the Project Board by submitting Highlight Report. ●

Issues—Capture and examine issues and risks, escalate issues

and risks, take corrective action, enter informal issues into the daily log. 6
