Introduction

1.1

Background

Procedure for Analysis of Pipeline Road Crossings

The passae of a vehicle over a buried pipeline will result in additional stress on the  pipeline. The international pipeline desin codes reconise this and specific calculation methods and allowable stress criteria are established to avoid the possibility of failure under this condition. 6n eneral a pipeline will euires a specialist pipeline enineerin bac=round to ensure that it is used properly, and that its results are interpreted correctly. 'L/0 has historically provided this service, althouh the pipeline LD"C (Local Desin "ervice Contractor! and other locally established Pipeline desin consultants reistered under CC.470- (Desin Pipelines! are also authorised to run the  proram. The ma@ority of proposed pipeline crossins are satisfactory. 6n an attempt to improve the response time to >ueries on proposed new crossins, a number of eneric curves have been produced which are intended to be used by non)pipeline specialists for initial screenin of crossin locations of oil pipelines desined to 1N"6 &0.7 and 3as Pipelines desined to 1N"6 &0.5. *or multiphase lines, the as pipelines curves shall  be used. 6f the curves indicate the proposed crossin is satisfactory then no further action is re>uired. 6f the curve indicates a potential difficulty then the issue should be referred to 'L/0 or directly to the Pipelines LD"C for further action. Printin of the raphs shall be done in colour in order to avoid mista=es in D/t curve selection.
