Ankush Travelling abroad is one of the cherished dreams of most Indians. large number of Indians are traveling abroad and realizing their ambition. But there are few people who can turn their dream into a reality. But astrologically we can interpret which chart have chances for going abroad. People visit foreign countries for various purposes some go there for vacations, some go on business trip, some students go for further higher education. But most of them go on the basis of immigration. To examine this an astrologer has to see many things like the houses and planets concerned with foreign travel. Primary houses for foreign journey are 9th and 12th house. If these houses fall in moveable signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) or water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), then there is a possibility of foreign travel (or travel over the seas!). It is obvious from the above that Cancer is a powerful sign in this regard as it is both a moveable sign and a watery sign. Thus if the 9th or 12th houses of a horoscope fall in these signs, or if the 9th or 12th house lords fall in these signs, you may deduce that foreign travel is indicated for such natives. For an example native is going abroad for higher education and in his chart 4th lord is placed in the 9th house which happens to be a moveable sign, or a watery sign, and is conjunct the 12th lord, We may conclude that the native will be traveling abroad for higher education (4th house stands for basic education; 9th house stands for advanced courses/ specializations). When 4th lord is placed in 12th house then native will find more auspicious living in abroad rather than at his native place.

Association of 5th, 9th, and 12th lords in the dasamsha indicate traveling abroad for professional reasons. These persons are usually employed as skilled professional like (scientists, professors, etc.)in abroad. If the combination of 9th and 10th lord is associated with the 12th house, the native may go on to win prestigious awards in the foreign country, and in some cases even get elected to high constitutional posts like Senator/ Governor/ Chairman of Board of Studies, etc. Curiously similar combinations will be found in the horoscopes of Indian posted abroad. Similar are the results when 10th and 12th lords of the dasamsha have mutual aspect or association. It should be noted that while moveable signs indicate travels away from homeland and hence might indicate long stay abroad, common signs indicating foreign travel signify that the person might travel a lot to foreign lands, but there will be no extended stay there Periods When Foreign Travels Are Indicated : When there are adequate prospects in the natal chart for going abroad, the native may undertake foreign travels during any of the periods mentioned below, 1) Dasa/ bhukti of the 9th lord or the 12th lord, or the planets that are in association with the 12th lord 2) (by placement or aspect). 2) Dasa/ bhukti of the planets that are associated with Moon 3) Dasa/ bhuktis of Rahu, Venus, or Moon if these planets are in the 12th house. 4) Dasa/ bhuktis of exalted/ debilitated planets in the horoscope. 5) Sub-periods of Ketu and Rahu in the major period of Rahu. 6) Jupiter bhukti in Saturn dasa (if Jupiter owns 12th house) 7) Dasa/ bhukti of the planets associated with the 9th lord. 8) When Saturn in its transit crosses the natal position of Sun. 9) When Jupiter in its transit aspects the 9th or 12th house, or aspects the 9th/ 12th house lords. 10) Foreign journeys are experienced even during

sade-sathi. Directions associated with the journey(especially for western countries like U.S. and Canada) As direction of the journey is mostly linked with rashi’s direction: Rasi which represent the western side are Gemini, libra and aquarius When the concerned lords and moon are placed in respective houses like 9th, 12th or 4th in these rashi then chances are more bright that one will go to US or Canada.

Overseas journey is indicated by the sub-lord of the 12th cusp. The 12th cusp has to be related to the 3rd and the 9th cusps; also the 12th house itself should have good positional strength. Today, every individual looks forward to a foreign assignment. As per the Parasara system, the houses 3, 9 and 12 signify travel. My research has shown that the 8th house also plays a very important role in deciding travel abroad. The 8th house, is the 11th from the 10th. If we go into the scriptures of the past, associations of the 8th house and travel abroad are always signified as ‘Kala Pani’, ‘ Desh Nikala’ or to be deported across the ocean. i.e. at that time, it meant that being displaced from the place where you are born and wandering in foreign lands was not a very happy situation, which was related to the value systems. The 8th house and its association with other houses like the 4th (for leaving family behind) and the 7th (for being separated from wife) need to be analysed. For deciphering the Astro indicators for foreign assignment, let us study a horoscope as per the K.P.System. According to the KP system, overseas journey is indicated by the sub-lord of the 12th cusp. The 12th cusp has to be related to the 3rd and the 9th cusps; also the 12th house itself should have good positional strength.

In the above chart, the sub-lord of the 12th cusp is Jupiter. He is the lord of the 3rd and the 6th, posited in its own constellation. Therefore, the sub-lord of the 12th cusp is a significator of the 3rd, 6th and the 1st houses. Jupiter aspects the 9th aspect. The native, therefore, is fortunate and will go abroad. Purpose of travel The purpose for which he will go abroad has to be ascertained from the lord of the 6th house (i.e. 9th from the 10th house

and the 11th from the 8th house). Here, this again is Jupiter and is posited in its own star. This shows that the native will go abroad on an assignment. The native left abroad for a job, offered by a foreign firm. 3, 9 and 12 bhavas Sun is in its own star, in the 3rd bhava. No planet is in the constellation of Jupiter (3rd and 6th lord), Mercury and Mars. Ketu alone is in the Sign of Mars. No planet is in the 9th bhava. Jupiter aspects the 9th. · 12th bhava is occupied by Moon. Rahu is in the star of Moon lord of the 12th cusp is Mercury. No planet is in the star of Mercury. Sun, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Rahu and Moon have helped the native on his foreign journey. The native left for abroad on 15 January 1976. At that time, he was running Jupiter dasa, Rahu Antara, Rahu Pratyantara and Jupiter Sookshma. Both Jupiter and Rahu associated with 3, 9 and 12. Transits on 15 January 1976, the day of journey. Dasa lord Jupiter was transiting in pisces, with fortunate trine aspect to its natal position. He is in the star of Mercury and the sub of Mars. Antar (Bukthi) lord Rahu was in Libra conjoining with the natal Jupiter, and posited in the star of Jupiter, in mercury sub. The day was ruled by Jupiter. Moon was transiting in Arudra, Rahu’s star on that day.

Foreign Travel Yoga : an Analysis Arun Kumar Bansal Recently a delegation comprising 97 people from India had gone to Thailand and Singapore to participate in International Astrological Conferences on 22nd-23rd July 2006 in Bangkok and on 30th July 2006 in Singapore. A large number of people went together on this journey abroad. There must be some astrological planetary combination or yoga responsible for this phenomenon. According to Astrology, planetary yoga (planetary combinations) for travel abroad is studied from 7th, 9th or 12th houses of the horoscope. In the main period or sub period of planets owning or occupying these houses there may be foreign tours. Even the transit of Saturn, Rahu and Jupiter from these houses facilitates forei gn tours. On the basis of the statistics of birth details of these persons a comprehensive study was made as follows 



Most of the people were of Cancer, Leo or Libra ascendants. Persons of Pisces ascendant were only a few in number. Aries was the Moon sign of most of them. For Cancer Ascendant Saturn was in ascendant, Jupiter in 4th house and Rahu was in 9th house in transit. For Leo ascendant Saturn was in 12th house in transit. For Moon in Aries, Rahu was in 12th house and Jupiter was in 7th house in transit. In the horoscopes of most of the people the Mahadasas (Major Period) of Rahu, Jupiter or Saturn were going on without any instance of Sun's major period. Most of the major period lords were the lords of 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th houses and

were occupying 6th or 9th house, whereas sub-period lords were the lords of 2nd, 4th, 9th or 12th house and were posited in 5th or 8th house. Rahu is the significator of foreign travel whereas Jupiter is that of Astrology and Saturn is that of Vedic knowledge. If a person is going through Rahu Mahadasa, it would enhance the possibilities of journey abroad because after this he would be going through the major periods of Jupiter and Saturn which would facilitate foreign journey.  In most of the horoscopes, Sun was in 1st, 6th, 7th or 12th house, Moon was in 3rd and 8th, Mars was in 2nd and 5th, Mercury was in 1st, 5th, 6th, 9th, 12th, Jupiter was in 2nd and 10th, Saturn was in 2nd and 7th and Rahu was in 9th house.  The placement of Sun, Mercury and Saturn in these different houses was showing larger difference than average which indicate that these three planets are chief significators of travel abroad.  Incidence of some planets in some particular signs was conspicious e.g. in most of the cases Sun and Mars were in Cancer and Leo whereas their placement in Sagittarius and Pisces was a few. Moon was in Aries in most of the charts, Mercury was in Virgo, Venus in Libra, Saturn in Aries and Cancer with Rahu in Libra.  Majority of the Group had either Ashwani or Bharani as their birth constellation with none having Vishakha or Dhanistha. Sun and Mercury were found in Chitra constellation (Nakshatra) in most of the horoscopes. Mars was in Purvaphalguni and Dhanishta in most of them. Saturn was in Jyeshta and Purvabhadrapada whereas Venus was in Ardra or Punarvasu constellation in most of the charts.  In Navansha Chart Aries, Cancer and Leo ascendants were more in number and Virgo ascendant was minimum in number. Sun was in 8th or 10th house in Navamsha, Moon was in Pisces and was placed in 9th or 12th houses in most of the cases. Mars was in the Navamsha of Libra in most of the charts whereas its placement in Taurus and Aries was minimum. Saturn in majority of cases was placed in 10th house in Aries Navamsha.  In number of horoscopes, Ascendant Lord was in 6th house, 2nd lord was in 7th, 5th lord was in 6th, 9th lord was in 9th, 10th lord was in 6th, 9th and 10th whereas 12th lord was in 1st, 5th, 8th or 12th houses.  Ascendant lord was in Cancer, Leo and Virgo sign, 5th lord was in Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, 6th lord was in Scorpio, 7th lord was in Leo and Virgo,11th lord was in Cancer and Virgo whereas12th lord was in Cancer in most of the charts. The above mentioned statistics is quite at variance with the classical ethos. So, if research oriented studies are made, then predictions in astrology can defenitely be made nearer to accuracy.

The advancement and modernization of technology and transportation has now made is quite easy for a person to think about exploring his luck and potential in foreign lands. Traveling overseas depends upon a lot of factors in vedic astrology birth chart of a person. The third, seventh and twelfth houses of horoscope are of much significance while determining the possibilities of traveling overseas or foreign travel in a birth chart. The role of luck is supreme in everyone’s life; and hence, the strength of ninth house is of paramount importance in deciding the success of efforts for foreign travel. The relationship of ninth house with third, seventh and twelfth houses also suggest the possibilities of fortune in foreign country or distant places.

In addition to this, while delineating the possibilities of

traveling overseas in vedic astrologyhoroscope, the strength and disposition of planets in divisional charts should also be given due consideration. For the ease of the reader, some of the example horoscopes are analyzed below to have more clarity on the issue.

In this vedic astrology birth chart, third lord Mars is conjunct with Jupiter (lord of fourth and seventh) in fifth house. Venus (lord of second and ninth) is exalted and united with twelfth lord Sun in seventh house. Apparently, the horoscope does indicate possibility of traveling overseas country – however, nothing such has taken place. The reason behind is weakness of Jupiter (debilitated), Venus (combust), ill placement of Lagna lord in sixth house and absence of any positive influence on the union of Mars + Jupiter. In addition to this, the native remained under mahadasa of Venus till 24 years of age which is followed by Sun Mahadasa for next 6 years. There was a short distance stay in another city for educational purpose, which took place during Venus Mahadasa and Mercury Antardasa.

In this vedic astrology horoscope, the lagna lord Saturn is conjunct with Jupiter (third and twelfth lord) and Mars (fourth and eleventh lord). The union of Saturn + Jupiter+ Mars is in eighth house and indicate obstructions and delays in the result of the union. Lord of sixth and ninth houses is Mercury, which is placed in seventh house along with Rahu. And, seventh lord is positioned in tenth house. Yogakaraka Venus is well placed in fifth in its own zodiac sign. Due to conjunction of Saturn with Jupiter, the native was having strong inclination towards foreign country. Due to the involvement of fourth lord Mars, his intention was having permanent residence in foreign country. In this vedic astrology birth chart, the Lagna lord Moon is exalted and united with Saturn (lord of seventh) in eleventh house. Mercury rules over third and twelfth houses and is conjunct with fourth lord Venus in sixth house. Tenth lord Mars is ill placed in eighth house and is also under aspect of seventh lord Saturn. The native had and still having frequent foreign visits due to his business. Due to the ill placement of both Mercury and Venus, there were some obstructions during initial level; however
