Peace The DoseWise approach to CT Patient radiation exposure is a key issue in CT, and one that Philips takes seriously. That’s why we instituted DoseWise, a series of advances that reduce radiation dose without compromising image quality. A breakthrough advance unique to the Brilliance iCT is the Eclipse DoseRight collimator. The collimator overcomes the over-beaming present in conventional CT through the elimination of dose at the beginning and end of helical scans that do not contribute to image formation. Together with SmartBeam management and other features, DoseWise reduces radiation dose without sacrificing image quality.

Quality Case study: Cardiac CT Clinical challenge Cardiac CT is one of the most popular – and challenging – emerging applications for CT. Clinicians are in need of CT technology that provides consistent, fast and accurate scans for a wide range of patients and an ability to clearly view small, often calcified, coronary blood vessels. Brilliance iCT solution All advantages of Essence technology are leveraged to meet the complex needs of cardiac CT. Fast, non-invasive scans of the heart are produced in just 2 heartbeats. Moreover, the Brilliance iCT can capture high-definition scans across a range of heartbeats. The Brilliance iCT also enables an exciting new prospective acquisition method: Step & Shoot Cardiac. Step & Shoot captures consistent, high-quality cardiac images with limited motion artifact and an industry-leading reduction in radiation dose of up to 80%.1 In a retrospective study, the Wisconsin Heart Hospital found that it had achieved an 80% dose reduction using the Step & Shoot Cardiac feature compared to previous exams using helical CT angiography techniques.

Resolution Case study: Lung CT Clinical challenge The lungs pose a unique challenge in CT: the air present in the lung parenchyma produces a higher signal-to-noise ratio. CT becomes even more challenging in patients with breathing problems because of difficulties complying with breath-hold imaging.
