Foreword Luckiest Man I Ever Met By Hal Wilson It was thirteen acres that didn't exist. Thirteen cres surrounded on three sides by the national park. "Can't be done!" "No such nlma/!" "Dream on buddy!" The realtors II laughed at his naivete. "Damn fool thinks he's gonna find what everybody wants on his first day out!" He didn't, of course. It took almost a month. Perhaps nobody had seen it because it was covered with trees. Some guy in Florida owned it, but swore he'd never sell. "Not interested!" "Can't be had!" "Won't sell at any price!" The realtor laughed at his naive confidence. "Damn fool thinks he's gonna buy what ain't for sale!" It took almost a week. The asking price was astronomical. "Don't call with a counter!" "Won't budge on the price!" "Doesn't need the money!" It was more than he wanted to spend. "Damn fool thinks he's gonna steal a deal on the best

We called him the Magic Man back then. Not because he did card tricks - though he did - and not because he made beautiful women disappear - because, more often, they tended to show up. It was just a knack he had for having things go his way. Most people want Lady Luck to smile on them for an hour or two, but with this guy, it was like they were engaged .

"That's 355 winning trades in a row!" He sounded pretty pleased. "The trick is to lose the stress, and win at rest!" Commodity trading just wasn't that easy. "It can't be fun if you're under the gun!" Everybody had losses in the markets, especially in commodities. "What you want, wants you!" If he'd been a loser, it would have been easy to blow off his crazysounding ideas. But he was a winner. Not just once in a while, but every time he put his mind to it. Introduction you lucky? Why, of course you are! How would this book have found its way into ur hands? As a lucky person, you attract ople, circumstances, and resources to you hat make your dreams come true! Now I don't think I really need to prove to you how lucky you are-one small example hould suffice. It's the time you began hopping for that special make of automobile. What happened? You began to see that car verywhere! There it was parked at the mall; then you saw it on the freeway, and again It was passing you on that winding country road. Why, it was like that model and make were actually talking to you. There you were in a sea of cars, yet only one was calling you. That was the one you made a decision to want. Desires are magnets of circumstance. There is a universal law that states, "What you want wants you and is rushing to meet you!" Put another way, what you want is what you notice.

The Awesome Science of Luck

Introduction

Since you can't hit a target you can't see, noticing brings you closer to your objectives by revealing connections to opportunities. The mental target begins to come into focus. Unlucky people never seem to be able to connect the dots. They are never curious about the countless numbers of options that present themselves each day. However, lucky people, as they notice the flow of options, are awed at such serendipity.

xpressed with such ease that they onsidered an art form-the knack of ky living. You will also understand that the mework of luck rests on a solid foundation dance. There are no uncaused events the entire universe. The laws of cause nd effect remain supreme. Even chaos falls Into mathematical equations that continue to lIow cause and effect to reign as king and ueen of the universe.

All the lucky people I know are confident, curious, and observant. They also have a strong sense of serendipity-the phenomenon of finding valuable things they weren't conscious of seeking. Lucky people attract good fortune wherever they go. In fact, they expect it! You could say that luck is the art of opportunity.

o what does this mean? It means that if you always work within the framework of the rt and science of luck, you'll be a winnernot some of the time, but all of the time.

Is luck simply an art or knack of successful living, or is there actually a law that forms an underpinning? If it could be proven that there is an actual law of luck, those working within its framework would always win their hearts' desires. The art and science of luck will reveal to you the behavioral traits of lucky people. These traits, when truly made your own, viii

CHAPTER ONE

What You See Is What You Get ne of the founding fathers of modern hysics was the highly acclaimed Niels hr. In his study of subatomic events, he discovered that even unrelated events ntained a hidden interconnectedness. He nd other physicists concluded that when an lectron wasn't being observed, it ceased being a particle and was always a wave. Another physicist, Nick Herbert, indicated that everything we look at turns to matter. So, if subatomic particles don't exist until they are observed , what about your everyday waking reality? Do you have the power to alter it by seeing it differently? Could it be that you create your own luck by seeing yourself living a'charmed life? Imagine our world, filled with six billion people as quanta (that's elemental units of energy). These energy units experience both attraction and repulsion. They form clusters and hubs in which information is

The Awesome Science ofLuck

What You See Is What You Get

shared and influences are created. These invisible informational networks are like a massive net covering our planet. According to Emanuel Rosen in his bestselling book The Anatomy of Buzz, we are linked by a chain of no more than six other people to every network of people on the planet. In other words, you know someone who knows someone who can get a personal message to anyone on earth.

ci rcumstances as nothing special. Every y, All day long, a parade of opportunities D.sses by, unnoticed by the one who periences bad luck. Lucky people see very thing as significant. Unlucky people everything as insignificant.

However, aocording to quantum physics, since all matter, including humans, is made up of quanta, the way you see things becomes the nonverbal message bearer. Yes indeed-what you want wants you and is rushing to meet you! What you deeply desire and earnestly aspire toward is what you truly see. What you see is what you get. You have the innate ability to influence and attract anything your heart desires. People who know what they want are more "lucky" than people who don't. However, bad luck is the very same process. The difference is the window of expectation through which one chooses to look at life.

physicist Nick Herbert is correct, then we tually do create our reality. What you see what you get! The difference between ood luck and bad luck is simply how you hoose to see things. How you actually see things is revealed by what you say about yourself to others, as well as what you ecretly think of yourself in private. The truth is, you only reallY ,see what you want or don't want to happen to you. You are drawn toward your greatest hopes and toward your greatest fears. The side with the greatest attraction force is the determining factor in creating your reality.

Lucky people see events and circumstances as fortuitous. Unlucky people see events

This is why people who have no clear-cut goals or aspirations tend to energize and thus magnetize their fears. By creating negative expectations, they create a subconscious situation in which their choices lead to bad luck. Lucky people are so focused on their strong desires and goals

2

3

The Awesome Science of Luck

that they simply overshadow their fears and misgivings. Your subconscious mind is like an inner compass leading you to choose what you really want. Your subconscious also has a timing mechanism that always allows you to be at the right place at the right time. For example, if you have an early morning appointment, you set your clock to alert you when it's time to wake up. However, you wake up on Yol:Jr own five minutes before the alarm is set to go off. How did you do that? Well, the same process takes place with good luck and bad luck. Some people always miss catching their plane, the last sale item at the store, the property they wanted to buy, or the employment opportunity that was just magically snatched up by someone else waiting in the wings. You've gotten the money from the bank and you race off to the car dealership to buy that vehicle you had your heart set on, only to be told that they just sold it! How is it that some people's timing is always off while other people are always in the right place at the right time?

4

What You See Is What You Get

II, let's face it, some of us are lucky and rs aren't! However, all lucky people and II unlucky people have the same things in mrnon. Lucky people see themselves as lucky. Unlucky people see themselves as nlucky, or say they don't believe in luck.

In my observations of people who say they on't believe in luck, some misunderstand the term "luck" to mean events without uses. This is not what I mean. Luck can be explained by science; however, very lucky people make it an art form. Generally, from my observations, people who don't believe in luck generally fare only slightly better than people who consider themselves unlucky. The most prosperous group has consistently been those who say, "Yes! I'm a very lucky person!" Science has studied the effect of consciousness on the subatomic world and has concluded that consciousness is a subtle form of matter. Space is not empty, but it is a unique type of matter that is affected by thoughts. Physicists believe our brains mathematically construct our , experiences of life from the way we interpret the frequencies in which we live, breathe, and move. If you consider your thoughts as 5

The Awesome Science of Luck

What You See Is What You Get

pictures in your mind, then you can suddenly see-there's that word again-what you see is what you get!

uld always get the parking spots of our osing. Of course, the moment you doubt process, that thought is also realized y your superconscious mind, proving the rrectness of the doubt. Am I making nse?

Let's explore another simple example of this. At my post office, there is a beautiful shade tree at the edge of the parking area. Under the tree, lovely flowers are usually in bloom. However, there is inadequate parking during peak times, and usually most of the parking spots are taken, including my favorite spot in front of the tree. The strange part of this is that I always see that spot vacant! Even when I drive into the lot and someone else is in the spot, suddenly their backup lights come on and they back out, freeing up my favorite spot. How many times have you visualized having a parking spot by the front door on a rainy day, and like magic-or, as luck would have it-there it is? Remember, any picture you hold in your conscious mind consistently must be acted upon by your superconscious mind. If the science of quantum physics is correct in asserting that subatomic particles don't exist until they are observed and that you and I create our own realities, then we 6

Ince you and I can't fall out of the universe, what we can't see should make us feel omfortable. By that, I mean that when ubatomic particles don't exist, they actually do. That is, they simply enfold themselves back into a deeper order from which they originated. In the words of physics, they are enfolded back into the implicate order of the universe-until our thought processes resurrect them and thus manipulate the fabric of our physical world. If consciousness is a subtle form of matter and the images we hold in our conscious minds command the superconscious mind to act, it's no wonder that a 'parking spot is available right by the front door. What you see is what you get. It's pretty much like visualizing a certain car you'd like to purchase, then seeing that make and model everywhere. Years ago, I was working on a construction site 7

The Awesome Science of Luck

and the workers were talking about cars. Offering my opinion, I said that I thought the classiest car on the road was the Cadillac Eldorado convertible. Just then, the owner of the construction company drove up in a new Cadillac Eldorado convertible. It sort of made my mouth water; that was all I could do at the time-that and dream. However, the laws of the universe being what they are, I soon saw my life change dramatically. Suddenly, I had not one but two new Cadillac Eldorado convertibles! I explain more about this in my course called "Money Magic." Listen , if a poor construction worker can suddenly reverse his fortune , what do you think you can do? By the way, it felt pretty good driving along the beach past the Palm Beach mansions with the top down and the ocean breeze blowing in my hair. Much better than breathing dust and fumes on a construction site, don't you agree? What is this thing we call "luck"? Here's another example for you to ponder. Years later, I decided to get a new white Cadillac Fleetwood. I was enjoying my sunbathing when I suddenly saw the car in my minds eye.

8

What You See Is What You Get

ng up to the dealership, however, I 't see a single white Fleetwood. How I have been so wrong when the Ise and vision were so strong? I asked alesman if they had a car like that, and aid, "Yes, it was a special order and 're just now washing it." hey drove it up in front of the showroom nd he asked if I'd like to test-drive it. I said, "No, I've already driven it-in my mind. I'll take it." He was stunned. After the usual posturing, we decided on the right price. "How do you want to pay for this?" he asked. I stunned him again, saying, "Why, I'll just write you a check in full." He was speechless. I added, "Oh, it's just part of my winnings in the stock market! I must just be lucky. " You 're probably thinking I lucked into some big inheritance or somebody gave me a bunch of money. No! I lucked into the art and science of luck. You too will be able to magically make yourse!f very, very lucky as you turn these pages and discover luck's secrets. 9

The Awesome Science ofLuck

Remember, the pictures and images you hold persistently in your conscious mind's eye will activate your superconscious mind. It is your superconscious mind that is a subtle form of matter and that is able to alter the fabric of your physical world. You shape your destiny with the pictures you hold in your mind and the desires you treasure in your heart. What you see is what you get. Interestingly, one problem physicists have when studying atomic systems is that the only way of seeing into a system is using photons of light. When light hits the atom, the photons move the elements around. Attempting to predict their arrangement is very difficult due to the various possible effects of observation. If observation is known to affect and disturb atoms, what about everything composed of atoms? Does the way a lucky person sees things affect where the ball will land as the roulette wheel is turned? Or how about when dice are rolled? Of course, we know the outcomes are not always as consiste~t, or do we? Perhaps our belief in inconsistency is the reason for it. You've most likely heard the expression, "When you 're hot, you're hot. When you're 10

What You See Is What You Get

u're not." When people are winning, nd to continue winning-that is, until lief in odds reasserts its presence, which time they become cold again. But t what is this "hot" state and how do you Intain it? Actually, it's the art of luck, hlch is what this book is about. Most people simply bet the odds-the ost likely outcome. But how can you redict the movement of disturbed atoms within a structure that are being affected by other elements? Ah, now, enter Werner Heisenberg and his Uncertainty Principle. The Uncertainty Principle replaced the law of causality of Newtonian physics and turned classical physics on its head. You'll probably recall reading about my staunch belief in cause and effect a few pages back. In Heisenberg's principle, the causes and effects are uncertain. Were the elements inside an atom randomly affected by a photon of light, or was there a law of causality working amidst chaos? At Boeing in 1969, a brilliant physicist named Helmut Schmidt created a digital random number generator. His research demonstrated (in the words of Qi Gong master Roger Jahnke) "that mind or 11

The Awesome Science ofLuck

consciousness influences the chance process in nature so that an outcome can reflect intention." So, then, can you be consistently correct despite the odds being against you? Yes! It is called the Monte Carlo effect. You will continue to win until you no longer believe you should. I personally experienced this trading commodities-that's another way of saying gambling, since 85% of the players lose all of their money. How did I do? 355 winning trades in a row. Did I have to give back some of the money? Yes. The point is, however, when you're hot, you're hot. That's the Monte Carlo effect at work. Note: The Monte Carlo effect is much more mathematically complex than my simplistic presentation. Nonetheless, when you are winning, you tend to continue to win despite · the odds.

What You See Is What You Get

tLJ ally found that some numbers have Inlty for each other. During the local nd weather, they show the winning bars for the state's lotto. If, say, a 4 up in the Pick Three numbers, more than not, it comes up again in the night's next drawing. So where are the Each drawing is a separate event, t winning is a flowing, steady state of tention. Numerous studies of very sensitive Individuals have revealed that their bodies mitted high levels of electromagnetic nergy and infrared emissions. Dr. William Iller of Stanford University states, "The human body is not just a chemical and lectrical machine, the human body is a light machine." What is it that excites an atom? It is an emitted photon. If we are light machines, as Dr. Tiller suggests, then we possess the ability to alter matter and circumstance.

Consider, each throw of the dice is a separate event, no matter how many times seven has come up. The odds are exactly the same for each individual throw of the dice as they were for the previous throw. Yet, we consider the odds and doubt. We literally see the event as different, although nothing has changed .

Therefore, the more light you can emit, the more successful you will become. The smallest measurement of the energy contained in ultraviolet light is one electron volt. These are described as joules. Humans put out around 10 joules per second. As you

12

13

The Awesome Science of Luck

and I increase the power of our intention and consciousness, we build a lens through which we can focus and concentrate our photons of ultraviolet light upon objects and events and influence their outcome. Let's go back to the subject of odds. Why is it that the horses that win at the track have the best odds of doing so? Well, that's not always an absolute. A few years ago, I was watching the Kentucky Derby, and the last horse to get into the chute for the start of the race wasn't cooperating at all. He wasn't a favorite and the odds placed him as a long shot. Nevertheless, the horse seemed to exude a special energy, so much that I said excitedly, "That horse just won!" And he did! He became an all-time record moneywinning long shot.

What You See Is What You Get

horse winning, that horse would win?

t Is true, you now understand the fate of nd the game of chance they play. that you and I actually receive we see in our mind's eye. I believe our ious minds have the power to activate uperconscious mind, which in turn has power to alter events and circumstances. lieve what you see is what you get!

So, now, why do the odds favorites usually win? First, they have to have a proven track record and an ability to win. However, Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle may also be at work with a long shot. The odds favorite has the most money bet on it, and more people's intention and focus are at work; the influence of the crowd's collective consciousness is another factor. Could it be that if a million people mentally saw the 14

CHAPTER TWO

Gut Instinct you ever met someone who caused to feel uncomfortable? You mayor may recall your physical posture, especially t you did with your hands and arms. ut I'll bet you crossed your arms, or if you d a pocketbook, you held it over your lar plexus. Most people will automatically rform such gestures when faced with Iscomfort. This is simply your gut instinct speaking. Your abdominal region was your first connection or safety valve to life. Thus, even now, anything that you perceive on a subconscious level as potentially hazardous (emotionally or physically) will cause you to protect your abdominal area. It's called protecting your feeler. A number of years ago, I read a book by Dr. Michael D. Gershon, M.D., titled The Second Brain: The Scientific Basis of Gut Instinct. It gave me a new and awesome appreciation for how a separate nervous system or second brain operates. It is now

The A wesome Science of Luck

an established scientific fact that we have a second brain that operates independently from the brain between our ears; I believe we can greatly benefit from what it is saying to us. While there are a number of nerve ganglia or plexuses in the abdominal region, you are most likely familiar with the solar plexus. That's right, solar, as in sunlight and photons that alter atomic structure. This is why certain types of music and color combinations cause gut-level reactions. The smallest oscillation of a sound wave to signal the brain is called a phonon. A phonon is the smallest particle of energy in a sound wave, just like a photon is the smallest particle of energy in a light wave. The way a particle or wave moves is determined by the way quantum fields interact with each other. Remember, light, like sound, is made by oscillations of electrical and magnetic fields . When they reach the body, signals are sent to the brain, and how we interpret these signals produces certain physiological messages. If you can consciously sort these messages from mental noise, memories, and imagination,

18

Gut Instinct

II discover a strange physiological .etlon known as a "hunch" or "gut instinct." person we meet radiates a quantum that is oscillating at a certain frequency. same fixed frequency, in the case of ns, also initiates the production of .wIIlors, just as photons, the smallest particles light, also create sound. As an example, note of middle C produces the color red. ould that be why "red necks" tend to love untry and western music, which is most ften played in the key of C? Come to think f it I think the color may have even stuck to my neck. If we are light machines giving off certain photonic messages, what does our gut say to us when we receive such information? Our guts quickly determine threats and separate them from opportunities to be acted upon. Listening to your gut is a very wise thing to do. If you become conscious of how people and things feel to you, you'll have an easier time identifying intuitive impressions. Your ability to identify and act on intuitive impressions is called "luck." Bear in mind that "cat gut" has been long used for the strings of musical instruments. 19

The Awesome Science of Luck

You probably already know how resilient that material is. Consider that it is with your gut that you are able to tune in to the vibrations of the invisible world. It allows you to pay closer attention to your psychological reactions to people and events around you. Your gut brain differs from your cerebellum and cerebrum in that they have the gray matter on the outside and the white matter on the inside. That's why when we operate from the head, we think first and feel second. However, with your gut, the wh ite matter is on the outside and the gray matter is within, so that you feel first and think second. That's why it's called a gut instinct. This is actually a perfect balance of two brains acting as one. The rational, objective faculty that incorporates sense perception allows !-IS to unerringly make use of our gut instincts for the greater good. That's luck! The gut informs us of an opportunity or danger and the rational mind allows us to make the most beneficial decision. Again, that's what you would call being lucky.

Gut Instinct

column. The youngest man, an tice, got up to go get some more from a bolt keg sitting next to an r shaft that already had metal on it. As he started to walk the beam the bolt keg, I yelled at him rather aracteristically, "Get over here! Sit down hold on! Right now!" Just as he sat , the entire structure blew up. I mean, re were iron stairways flying in the air and Isting into double helixes like DNA. What tal siding there was on the powerhouse was blown off by the blast; the windows f stores and homes in the nearby town were even blown out. The new 900-foot-tall mokestack swayed like a reed in the wind. Luckily, the three of us were unscathed through it all, except for some hearing loss.

Once, while I was working as an ironworker, my gut began to speak to me. There were three of us sitting on a steel beam bolting

What had happened and how did my gut know to tell me? Doing very dangerous work like that makes you acutely aware and observant, but even the things you don't see are still picked up by your gut instinct. The cause of the explosion was that acetylene gas had leaked into and filled the enclosed elevator shaft, and a spark from a man welding on the other side of the structure blew into the top of the shaft. It blew tDe building apart like a giant firecracker.

20

21

The Awesome Science ofLuck

As an example, every atomic element is distinguished by an atomic number. Helium is element #2: it has two protons in its nucleus. Oxygen, element #8, has eight protons, eight neutrons, and eight electrons. If you want to change one element into another, you have to change the number of protons in the nucleus. Again, according to quantum physics, observing atomic structure requires light. When a photon invades atomic particles, they become waves that are said to behave unpredictably. Despite a comprehensive understanding, science is still able to get workable feedback; however, with all their understanding they have yet to accomplish the alchemists' dream of turning lead into gold. Lead, element #82, simply has to have three protons removed from its nucleus to produce gold, element #79. Every element gives off a vibration. That vibration is received as a gutlevel reaction. When the oscillation registers on the second brain, an electrical bolt of intelligence or intuition is felt. Computer-like computations coupled with action take place instantly.

rs and possibilities and connected he dots in advance. We all know; it's that we forget we already know. Too mental noise drowns out psychic ation. When there is too much mental , one is unlucky. When you listen, you lucky. ur mind is like a sponge that soaks everything. To keep us from being verwhelmed, we have a reticular activating ystem. The RAS blocks out sensory Istractions. However, on a subconscious level, we still record al l those stimuli. That's why, under hypnosis, you can recall names, faces, and information from your childhood unerringly. Then why can't we read and interpret the present? We can, provided we train ourselves to do so. If you are trained to interpret the vibrations your gut picks up, you're very lucky. In the words of that young apprentice ironworker, "You saved my life! You saved my life! What luck! We're so lucky to be alive!"

The human mind doesn't miss a thing. Our superconscious has already run all the 22

erceptive Abilities Solve Problems you're psychic and have problems, just w psychic are you? Naturally, we all row in installments. We have both natural rceptions and trained perceptions. However, as with gifted athletes, natural propensity or talent doesn't eliminate the need for training. Even an untalented athlete who trains very hard can beat an athlete who, despite natural talent, refuses to train. Bear in mind that the drive is the talent! You can train yourself to spot opportunities. People who avail themselves of a beneficial opportunity are always deemed lucky by others. In fact, I'm always astounded by how some people appear to be blind to opportunity. Take two people walking down the street. One person sees a five-dollar bill lying on the sidewalk; the other person blindly walks right past it. What was the defining quality that allowed one person to be lucky and the other person to miss? Perception.

I ne A WeSOHle

The actual difference between the two people is not as much in the ability to see as it is in expectation. Lucky people expect fortuitous events to take place. Don't you think that your perceptive ability will be heightened if you expect to be lucky? Yes, your powers of observation will be keener. Remember, observation is heightened by expectation. Years ago, when I was living in a beachfront condo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a new acquaintance came over to talk to me about the creative visualization workshops I was conducting. I suggested that he walk down the beach with my wife and me. As we walked along the shoreline, every few yards or so I'd pick up a quarter and hand it to my wife. My acquaintance watched me, and finally, in frustration, he burst out with, "Hey, man, where you getting all those quarters?" From then on, it became my trademark. Once, I was coming out of a restaurant with my new friend and he teased me about my luck with quarters, asking why there weren't any on the sidewalk. I replied, "Because you're standing on one!" The only difference between us was that I had a trained expectation for luck. My friend 26

And what about the quarter under your hoe? coming a good observer will develop nd heighten your psychic abilities. You'll become more sensitive to the impressions you receive from ordinary stimuli. Only then will you be able to tell the difference between mental noise and what the things you "see" are really telling you. Like I said, perceptual abilities solve problems.

Once, canoeing in northern Quebec, I ended up in a very dangerous situation. I was negotiating whitewater rapids as the sun was setting. The cliff walls along the river prevented any exit. Soon, it was dark. Alii could hear was the roar of whitewater. While my auditory perceptions prevented me from detecting changes in the tenor of the roar, my intuitive perception was picking up a dramatic change of tone, and I felt a sudden 27

The Awesome Science ofLuck

shudder, like an electric current going up my spine. I had to stop.

I wedged the canoe into some large boulders in the middle of the river, and after securing the canoe with rope, I settled in for a long, cold night. The next morning, as the golden rays of light played with the rising mist, I devised a plan to escape the canyon. I knew the river would not be as dangerous in daylight, but my intuition was telling me something else. Finally, I was able to reach the base of the canyon wall and climb onto a tiny outcropping of rocks. I spent the morning climbing 'up the cliff face. Once I reached the top, I pulled the canoe up after me. I must have looked ridiculous standing there with my canoe and gear, but from my new vantage point, I saw something that stopped me in my tracks. There was an aD-foot waterfall right around the bend from where I had spent the night. Yes indeed, perceptive abilities solve problems! At the spot where I put my canoe into the river again, the water was much calmer and more reflective. I too was much calmer and more reflective. That day, I realized 28

t we can hear beyond hearing and see yond seeing if we spend time training our rceptions. Soon, our perceptions train us. he way our perceptions train us is in the edback loop we create by increasing our observation skills. You'll develop a heightened awareness of any changes In your normal emotional state. Psychic Impressions are different from imagined Impressions. Something you see in your imagination or memory has a different "feel" than an accurate psychic impression. Psychic impressions are both spontaneous and surprising. Like first impressions, they tend to be quite on target despite familiarity changing the picture. You must learn to discriminate between these various types of impressions. You must learn the signature of psychic information before you can make accurate use of it. Being psychic is being lucky, which is both an art and a science. To begin, try guessing the numbers of the balls for the state lottery. Since they are usually shown late at night, you have the opportunity to begin to fall asleep. With your mind in an alpha brain wave rhythm and a non- , expectant state, you'll notice that each guess 29

The Awesome Science ofLuck

has a certain "feel." Your misses will feel one way (before you know they are misses) and your hits will feel subtly different (again, before you know you are correct). Some of your picks will surprise you. For many years, I have been asked to assist law enforcement agencies with criminal profiling . Once, an Atlanta detective asked for my impressions over the phone about a murder. Strangely, the phone began to smell like burning rags, and I received the image of a pile of burning rags on top of a stove. The detective said, "How on earth are you getting that? We sealed the house up, and not even the press knew that someone had dumped rags on top of the stove and attempted to burn them." On another occasion, I was sitting with two detectives in their office, working on a missing-child case. We were focusing on a parking lot when a scene of a child falling into a ravine flashed before me. It was so fleeting that I ignored it and went back to focusing on the parking area. Later, it turned out that the parking area had little to do with the child 's disappearance-search and rescue found the chi ld's body in a ravine.

30

What I learned was not to try and edit the ponse. Every piece of information has very fragile thread attached to it. As odd r surprising as the impression may be, bjectively following the thread without diting or attempting to make sense of it will develop the "knack" of knowing. Pull too hard by demanding that the information make sense, and you'll break the thread. Whi le revisiting an unsolved murder from the 1960s, I was shown an old black-andwhite photograph of the crime scene-a decomposed body covered with black plastic garbage bags. I took several deep breaths and sat down by the detective's desk. As I sat, a clothing label flashed before me. What followed was an amazing description of a woman: height, weight, her hometown, that she was pregnant, etc. I even drew a picture of her. I didn't know it, but while I was viewing the photograph, the skeletal remains were being reconstructed at the University of Tennessee's forensic anthropology lab. The reconstructed wax face was identical to my drawing, and the weight, height, and pregnancy were also confirmed. How was such a th ing possible?

31

The Awesome Science ofLuck

Again, with this type of psychic feedback it was all confirmed, double-blind, so to speak. This type of information was scientifically proven accurate, unlike the average fortune-teller who often simply deals with generalities and psychological truisms. There is quite a difference between telling people what they want to hear, e.g., "You're going to meet a tall, dark stranger," and what must stand up in a court of law as evidence. From my observation, people with artistic talents, like painters, poets, and writers, tend to be more psychic than others. Why? Because they are able to more effectively express their imagination objectively and creatively. I'll give you an example that will probably trigger your memory and connect you to a similar example. When I was a child, the headboard of my bed had swirls and grainy patterns on it. I can recall just lying there and watching the faces of people and animals appear, change, and disappear in the headboard. At times, I saw my grandfather working in the hayfield or my mother knitting by the fire. Yet, objectively, the headboard was only a headboard.

king abstract forms and mentally turning them into objects to which we can assign meaning is the art of interpretation. By that, I mean that in some way, everything matters and everything connects, if only in our minds. Noticing things equates to being lucky. The images we see will often trigger fleeting and often surprising pictures in our minds. Perhaps I should say that they pull them from our superconsciousness, which can be amazingly accurate. If what you see is very clear, it is most likely memory or imagination; true psychic impressions have a different quality from imagination and don't last long. Rather, they flash, like first impressions do. One case I worked on involved two men who were stealing from ATMs (automatic teller machines). They were caught on tape, but the quality of the tape was fuzzy and they were thought to be wearing disguises. I was asked to see if I could get an impression and draw portraits of the men. At the police station, two detectives and I were going over my drawings when another law enforcement agency called and emailed some mug shots. One officer, holding my drawing and looking at a picture-perfect replica on the 33

screen , exclaimed, "You scare me! This is unbelievable!" Suddenly, an image of the villain's hand flashed before my eyes. I turned to the detective and said, "Ask them if he has the words 'love' and 'hate' tattooed on his fingers." It turned out that he did. The man confessed to being the person stealing from the ATMs and then identified his accomplice. It's difficult to always be correct, especially when you're called on to be. There are many fortune-tellers who may have amazing insights when they are relaxed and the conditions are right, but doing it for a living is another thing. When memories, imagined events, and other mental noise cloud your consciousness, true intuitive feedback becomes impossible. I speak from experience. When you are just waking from sleep, for instance, you are more open to .clear insights. Often, my best stock picks and business decisions are made when standing in the shower-especially after doing an alternating hot and cold shower, when I'm once again enjoying the hot water. Thoughts and impressions are like invisible magnetic 34

Perceptive Abilities Solve Problems

ses that stick to the body's energy matrix; old shower water demagnetizes and washes off those impressions, freeing up your sensitivity. In a relaxed state, your superconscious mind Is free to flow. That's why I stated that sleep can be very revealing, if we can sort mental excrement from crisp insights. For example, one morning at 6:15 AM, I suddenly sat up in bed and told my wife that a cleaning woman had just been 'raped at gunpoint in the laundromat. I drew a picture of the rapist, and the police confirmed the crime. Soon, two detectives were sitting in my living room before an open fire, sipping tea. It was inconceivable to them that someone could have seen the crime while half-asleep in bed. (It was this encounter that led to my later work with the department on other cases.) They asked where I thought the man might be headed, and I said, "He'll be picked up in Florida." A few days later, the rapist and another man were picked up for stealing a car. In the back of the police cruiser, the rapist said, "I hope they don't try to get me back to Tennessee." Well, he was wrong. He 35

Th6 AW6S0m6 Sci6nce ofLuck

was extradited back to Tennessee to stand trial for rape. The-judge and prosecutor xclaimed that my sketch of the man was more accurate than his mug shot. Had it not been for that drawing, the Florida authorities wouldn't have known what he was wanted for in Tennessee, and had I not seen him in Florida, he might have gotten away with the crime. Please bear in mind that psychic information doesn't always come in visual flashes. Just consider the sonar of dolphins or the ability of a bloodhound to smell a body at the bottom of a lake. Remember, the impression of burning rags I discussed earlier wasn't a visual impression at all. If you have a pet, just watching your pet react to stimuli that you can't perceive can make you very psychic. I wonder if the famous psychic debunker, the Amazing Randi, has ever had a dog. My dog can tell when I'm at the beginning of our driveway even though it's well beyond the range of his sight and hearing. Some time ago, we kept a friend's dog while she was out of state for several weeks; three weeks later, the dog became very excited and started whining and staring down the driveway. She wouldn't 36

Perceptive Abilities Solve Problems

leave the door-then, suddenly, her owner ame driving up. Now, you tell me, how did her dog know the precise time of arrival after an absence of three weeks? Here is an interesting exercise you can try If you have a dog. There is a hiking trail behind my home; I take my dog there on a long lead, close my eyes, and follow him. As he stops to investigate, I'll attempt to tune in on what he smells or hears. We will sometimes go several miles like this. By forcing yourself to heighten your senses of smell and hearing, you begin to realize that we have only a rudimentary functioning of these organs. I've also performed the same exercise barefoot; it really shows you how limited we ordinarily are in feeling different textures and surfaces. As you practice exercises like this, you one day realize that you hear beyond hearing, see beyond seeing, smell beyond smelling, and touch beyond touching. Yes, we are still evolving into beings we can't yet imagine. How lucky we are!

CHAPTER FOUR

How Pictures Give Birth to Reality Looking at old photographs, have you noticed how your emotions are stirred up? Emotions are the steam of desire. Emotions power your dreams, and those dreams paint pictures in your mind that give birth to reality in a most magical way. The story you're about to read is like a ghost from the past. Once you diligently apply the awesome science of luck, the pictures you hold in your mind give birth to reality. I didn't feel lucky at the time. A lot of folks were losing their jobs. I hadn't been able to save much, and working construction up north in January wasn't much fun. The old house I rented howled and whistled all night long. The old wood stove didn't even melt the ice that formed on the inside of the windows. But hey, I had my dreams just like anyone else. If only my luck would change! Maybe you've been there as well-you know, not much money, feeling down on

your luck, but there's one thing others can't rip away from you. Yeah, you can always go off by yourself to gaze out the window and dream.

When I called the realtor, he said he took the listing over the phone and hadn't seen the house. "You'd have to be a nut to go out house shopping in a blizzard!" he told me.

We don't often realize it, but our ability to paint pictures in our mind is like giving birth to a magical genie. At that time, I didn't understand this either. So, probably just like you, I pictured my dream home. Oh, it sat there as pretty as a castle on a hill; just below was a beautiful lake, where I could dock my brand-new boat. I wanted a big fireplace where I could rest after a day on the water, and a nice porch where I could sit in my rocking chair watching the sunset. Oh, another thing-I loved the smell of the new hardwood floors. Well, at least I could enjoy my castle in my mind.

But the little voice inside said, "Go!" With the realtor's directions, I found the place-the very place I'd seen so clearly in my mind's eye. It wasn't crowded on the highway; in fact, I was the only 4x4 on the road. I found the realtor at his home and said I had to have this house.

I was off work that day. The weatherman said to expect a blizzard, so I wrapped a blanket around me as I read the newspaper and drifted off to sleep, dreaming about my castle. Then, I don't know what the voice was inside my head, but I awoke with a start! My finger was resting on an advertisement in the classified section of the paper. It read, "New home overlooking lake-must sell."

40

He hesitantly drew up the papers for my ridiculous and embarrassingly low offer, scowling. "This isn't going to do you much good," he said. Then, the realtor called the seller, but it didn't look like they were getting along. "Here, you talk to him!" He handed me the phone. The seller softened as I listened to his sad story. This new home had been constructed for his mother and himself. She died, and he lost his job. The bank was about to foreclose. "How much you got?" he asked. "Enough for a down payment," I said.

41

"liB AWBsome Science of Luck

k, you sound like a nice guy. I'm in a jam I'd rather give it to you than the bank. ahead and sign the papers and I'll get right over there!" Well, the storm passed as I stood on the hilltop overlooking the lake. I carried an armload of firewood as I looked at the new boat that had never yet been in the water. Oh, did I forget to tell you what I paid for the castle on the hill with the new sweet-smelling hardwood floors? 7,500 dollars. Do you want to give birth to a magic genie that can grant all your wishes? Now's the time to change your luck! What pictures spring spontaneously into your mind? Are they pictures of things you fear, or of things you desire? If you could have any of your heart's desires, which one would it be? Examine that desire very carefully. Do you deeply believe that its fulfillment and attainment would be beneficial now and into the future? Very well , then-let's go about creating a photographic mental negative. Once the negative is created, it's just a matter of immerSing it in the right mixture of emotional juices for the picture's development. 42

How Pictures Give Birth to Reality

Visualization is not about your eyes, but about your mind. The mental imprint that Impresses your brain cells vibrates your body like a tuning fork with your desire. If you strike one tuning fork and bring it close to another tuning fork, both will vibrate and the frequency will be intensified. Your special desire is likewise intensified when you come in contact with people who can help make your dream come true. They will be irresistibly drawn to help you. There is a cosmic law that states, "What you want wants you and is rushing to meet you!" We create reality in advance, as the headlights of our minds create the roads we choose to follow. You must experience the sensation of already possessing your desire before you can magnetize it toward you. That's right-you must experience the sensation of your desire. Since we began our discussion with the healthy desire to have a nice home, how would you go about magnetizing that image? The mental picture must be able to stir your emotions; that provides the developing fluid to get a picture-perfect image that you will transpose into reality.

saw a video vignette in which a man was so obsessed with a particular painting In a museum that in the last scene, the man was shown walking across the hayfield depicted in the painting. Impossible, you say? Well, of course, the film was science fiction. But now, I'll tell you a real story like that. Not long ago, I had a vivid dream where I was standing in a hayfield in a scene right out of The Sound of Music. The breeze was blowing my hair, and I was inhaling the sweetness of the grass. Above me was a gently gliding eagle silhouetted against a crisp blue sky. Not a human sound was to be heard anywhere. Strange, I thought, how real it all was. During my waking hours, that picture from my dream would flash briefly before me. A few weeks later, I found myself standing in that same field. The former owner told me that they harvested around 7,500 bales of the finest hay in the nation from that field annually, but his medical bills were forcing him to sell it at a ridiculously low price. I told him not to worry about the hay, but to keep farming it. You see, I had become its new owner! 44

How Pictures Give Birth to Reality

Since I was a child, I've painted pictures from images in my head. Later, I learned how to paint mental pictures that created Images in tangible reality. With the help of this book, you can too. When you form the mental image of your dream home, smell the freshly cut lumber, the new carpet, and open the doors of your new kitchen cabinets and inhale. Feel how easily the faucets turn; rinse your hands under the warm water. Walk through your new home from room to room; sit on the bed, look out the windows, open and shut the doors, walk around the outside, touch and smell the flowers and shrubbery. Make your mental tour as sensual as possible. Next, form a single-frame picture of the house with your eyes closed. Once you are able to hold your image steady, take your index finger and touch the middle of your picture. Don't be concerned if your fingerprint smudges it; it won't affect it. Notice where your finger touched you. Most likely, it was on a spot between your eyes. Every time you want to energize your cherished vision, simply push that spot; your image should appear.

nagged at my mind-that auction sign. I xplained to the realtor that I didn't want to Insult them with my offer (about half of the original asking price) and I would completely understand if they refused; however, were they to consider my offer, I could be there in two days with a cashier's check for the full amount.

Recently, I mentally saw an auction sign going up on a piece of property I had my eye on, but which was beyond my means without going into debt. I'd never been to that area before and didn't know a thing about it; I had stumbled on to the property while playing around on the Internet. It was one of the most beautiful pastoral pictures you could ever imagine; hundreds of acres, ponds, long creek frontage, and 360 0 views as far as the eye could see . I found myself simply admiring its well-kept beauty, never really expecting to own it. It's important to pay attention to signs-I'll show you why later.

He said they wouldn't even think about it. The auction was to be in three days, and they were certain to get a higher offer. The image of the auction sign still haunted me. I saw it being taken down in my mind's eye, but I couldn't imagine where the money would come from to buy the property. They certainly wouldn't accept my offer; the realtor said he would be hesitant to even present the offer. Anyone still had a chance to come up with the money.

Then it happened. I called the realtor, who stated that on the following Saturday, the bank would auction the property if it wasn't bought before then. I went to see it and returned home. Oh, yes, it was as beautiful as the pictures, but the odd vision 46

Someone ripped the auction sign down the day before the scheduled bidding was to take place. As I stood on the lovely hilltop and slowly turned around, I smiled to myself as I mentally spoke. "All of what I see is mine to keep!" Oh , how pictures give birth to reality!

You may complain, "I don't have the same bility to get clear-cut pictures in my mind!" h, but you do. Think of the last time a picture in your mind changed the hormones in your body and your body vibrated at a different frequency-was it when sex was on your mind? The power of such pictures is undeniable. In the animal kingdom, when an animal feels sexual, how is it that suitors surprisingly appear out of nowhere? Whether you're choosing suitors or opportunities matters little-it's the vibrations you give off that are everything. Pictures are vibrations that give birth to reality! Twenty-five years ago, I was sitting in my beachfront condo in south Florida, teaching the secrets of creative visualization to a small group of friends. They asked my wife and me if we'd share our own visualization with them. I explained that the story went back a long way. "But since you've tasted the fruit of successful picture-making," I said, "I'll reveal to you some of the intimate details." My wife Ann lit some candles and poured several glasses of wine as everyone got comfortable. The sun was just going down,

48

How Pictures Give Birth to Reality

nd the lights from distant yachts twinkled like Christmas lights. I began, "I didn't feel lucky at the time. A lot of folks were losing their jobs. I hadn't been able to save much. Working construction up north wasn't much fun. The old house I rented howled and whistled all night long. The old wood stove didn't even melt the ice that formed on the inside of the window ... " I sipped my wine as the gentle sea breeze reminded me that was a lifetime ago, then continued. "Oh, did I forget to tell you what I paid for the castle on the hill with the new sweet-smelling hardwood floors? Oh, yes, everyone called me lucky. But I was noticing there was a rhyme and rhythm to my luck. It was almost as if there were scientific laws underpinning luck; I was soon to find out that there were. "The teachings aren't new, but just because they are esoteric and ear-whispered doesn't mean you can't discover them. I searched out hidden esoteric writings, digested what I could, and began to practice. Since I had just purchased a new lakefront home and boat for a mere $7500-yes, seven thousand five hundred dollars-I knew I 49

The Awesome Science ofLuck

was lucky. You see, it's very important that you know you are lucky before you can demonstrate it." I went on to describe my first test. "There was a vacant lot adjoining my newly acquired property, and I really wanted to own it. Ah! Again, it was a matter of money. You see, lakefront lots were not inexpensive, even back then . I wondered about my newly discovered luck; was it just a fluke, or was there something more behind it? "During coffee breaks at work, I would visualize the lot and what I was going to do with it-you know, flowers and a small garden , maybe even a few fruit trees. Again, my dreams were alive and wel l. I did have one fear that I had to carefully avoid visualizing- that of someone building a vacation cottage next to my little palace. It would be easy to imagine: late-night parties, laughing and yelling all night long. "Remember that your fears and misgivings often materialize more powerfully than your hopes and dreams. Why? Because you dip those negatives into the soup of your nervous apprehensions, and rapidly, those pictures become reality. Hopes, 50

How Pictures Give Birth to Reality

fears, dreams, and apprehensions all get developed by the juice of your emotions. -motion relates to direction. It states that the E of E-motion is ergodic, meaning that It involves the probability that any state will recur. The E in emotion is ergo, the unit of work that creates the direction of an effect. Put simply, any time you get excited and focus your mind on the object of that excitement, you move it. That movement can be either an attraction field or a repulsion field. Emotions magnetize the pictures you hold in your mind. "So, every time I touched that picture with my finger, I wou ld smell the flowers I had already planted with my mind on my neighbor's lot. When I was ready and had enough money to make an offer, I went to the courthouse and looked up the owners of that lot. They lived about ten miles away. "In the process of visualizing the ownership of the lot, I never spoke about it. You must never reveal your goals to those who cannot assist you in their fulfillment." I suggested to the group that we take a short break to stretch . When we resumed ,

fulfillment of all desires, be they material or piritual.

"Yes, you are," I answered, "and you're going to be surprised at how it all unfolds. You might say you're student scientists experimenting with the dynamics of luck! You'll see firsthand how I handle signs."

"Once I felt my pineal gland to be highly charged, I visualized a ball of luminous white fog. I placed the couple in the center of this ball of white light, and I blessed the meeting and outcome as the highest good for everyone. Then I sent an impulse to the couple and allowed the vision to fade from sight. (Note: Today, I use a 12,500-gauss magnetic headband worn over the third eye. It is believed to charge up the magnetite of the pineal gland, and it's a wonderful tool to use in meditation. It's available from www. roaringlionpublishing.com.)

I continued my story. "Before meeting with the couple who owned the lot, I saw us cordially sitting together in their living room. Next, I began to do rhythmic breathing, focusing on inhaling with my third eyethat's the spot between your eyebrows. "Actually, you don't really inhale through that spot, but visualizing it causes your pineal gland to flex. Researchers have discovered that the pineal gland is a lightcatching net that includes the element magnetite. Magnetite is also found in high concentrations in migratory animals; the higher the magnetite level, the more uncanny are their abilities to locate their life requirements. Exercising the pineal gland helps develop it. We have yet to fully understand its function as a light receptor, but the ancients held this as a key to the

"When I arrived at the lot owners' home, just as I had imagined, we had coffee in the living room. They were a very pleasant elderly couple. When I brought up the topic of the lot, they smiled and looked at each other fondly. He grabbed her hand and asked, 'What do you think, dear? We're never going to do anything with that old lot. I'm too old to clean up the briars on it. We might as well let someone do something nice with it.' She agreed. He continued, 'You know, I've paid the taxes on it for thirteen years and I don't want to pay them any 53

longer. How about 350 dollars? That's what I paid for it to start with.' I was shocked! I'd been prepared to pay ten times the amount. It was a win/win situation. Did Lady Luck just smile on me, or was there an awesome science behind luck? "In those early days of studying luck, I also had a most unlucky thing happen to me; maybe Lady Luck had a bad hair day and decided to have some fun testing me. I fell off a 300-foot building. "Growing up poor in a blue-collar family didn't afford me many educational opportunities. Dad worked mostly factory jobs, and when he got laid off, he did some house painting. You know, sometimes you just take what life offers. After the divorce, Mom got a job at the library. I didn't do well in school, except in art. Won some awards. Was even offered a scholarship. But, like I said, we were too poor for that. I loved the library and got to read a lot; I guess you · could say I was homeschooled. Before I knew it, I found myself bumming around the country looking for work. It was out in Colorado that I lucked into a job as an ironworker. I remember the business agent

for the union asking me, 'Son, you're not fraid of heights, are you?' "Many years later, with lots of dangerous experience behind me, I was up high on a steel building skeleton. As I remember, it was a hot afternoon in July. Even at 300 feet, no air was stirring . We had been working overtime every day, and the money was pretty good, I thought. I was climbing a steel column hand over hand. As I reached for another handhold, a hidden welded lug knocked my fingers loose, and suddenly I was falling down through the open building. I heard someone scream, 'There goes Pete!' "You know how when you almost have a car wreck, everything gets sort of surreal, like you're watching a movie in slow motion? Well, reality got pretty blurred in free fall. Down below me, there was a protruding framework for a catwalk with one piece of metal grating in place. Someone had left a five-gallon bucket turned upside down in the middle of that section-probably used it as a seat during coffee break. I hit that bucket with both feet. It popped like a paper cup. I stepped off the flattened bucket and looked up."

55

I paused for a moment, and Ann suggested we have another glass of wine and take a break out on the balcony. Someone asked how high up we were. I reminded them we were only on the fifth floor. They looked up. "No, this condo doesn't go that high," I said, "but what I'm about to teach you will make you feel quite high." "You see," I resumed, "I'd been picturing a bright future, and dying wasn't included in it. The more I practiced my visualization exercises, the luckier I became. It was at that point in my life that I began to fully realize how our mental pictures give birth to reality. "The lakefront property was beautiful, but I still had this Daniel Boone type of personality, and I wanted to build a log cabin deep in the mountains. Somehow, I got wind of a rumor that a large corporation was trying to buy some raw land from a local farmer, so I asked around about who that might be. "I found the old man, but not without crossing a creek four times and following an old dirt track several miles up a hollow. The two of us sat in his cabin, and he would periodically spit tobacco juice into a can. The 56

lickering fire in his wood stove provided all tho light there was. "He told me how his grandfather had settled In this territory before statehood. He showed me the old land grant, said he'd had 20,000 acres, but over time it got whittled down to what was there-a bit of raw land behind the lake and the 400 acres that he farmed. "' I was born in this house and so was my dad,' he said . 'I always wanted to build me a log cabin on that ridge, on my property you've got your eye on. Never did. You know I've been offered big money from that corporation for it, don't you? I don't like those folks. Something about it I don't like.' He paused. 'How much money you got?' "'Three thousand dollars,' I said. 'Don't seem near enough for a hundred acres. What would you do with it if you had it?' he asked. "I told him, 'I'd build that same log cabin on the ridge that you always dreamed about.' "He sat there quietly rocking. Neither of us spoke. I just felt happy being in his presence, no matter what the outcome. In 57

The Awesome Science of Luck

my three or four visits with the old man, I began to feel toward him as a son would feel toward his father. In some sense, we were also like two old friends who hadn't seen each other in years-with so much to tell each other, yet having no rush to do so. Sitting in silence was more than enough communication for the heart. "Finally, in soft, reflective tones, he spoke. 'I don't know how many days the good Lord will give me.' He paused. Three thousand is not much money, but I don't need much.' Then, looking me straight in the eye, he said, 'You promise me you'll build that log cabin and you can have it all for thirty per acre.' I promised him I would. "'I'll probably never see it, but wherever I am, I'll know it, ' he said. 'I believe you, son, it's yours. And one more thing-land ain't worth squat without mineral rights. I'm giving you the gas well those city folks were after, and you're gonna get a royalty check every month for the gas that's sold. You just be good to the land.' "My luck had improved in the construction business as well. Soon, I was in charge of building a civic center. The newspaper and 58

How Pictures Give Birth to Reality

V reporters were there to inform the public of its progress, and the next Sunday, my picture was on the front page in vivid color. "As I directed a high girder into place spanning the open auditorium that would seat thousands, I thought of my cabin on the ridge, and the mental picture warmed my heart. Then, a fellow worker shouted to a reporter, 'Ask him about the log home he just built!' That was the luckiest question I was ever asked . '''You took several years off just to work on this log cabin? You cut each tree by hand and peeled them with an axe? Unbelievable!' The questions continued and the cameras kept clicking. I just wanted them to leave so I could return to my quiet, but there I was again on the front page in living color'Modern-Day Mountain Man!' "Finally, I decided to retreat from modern life and revisit my heart's desire. That was the last time I had a job or worked for anyone else. I began to write. the blue ridges, he asked what I thought the future held. Strange, I thought to myself, everyone seems to be asking me to tell them their future. I replied, 'Your future is the full composite of the pictures you hold in your mind.' "'Why, you sound as crazy as my daughter!' he said. 'I'll have to bring her out here sometime. CHAPTER FIVE

Pay Attention to the Signs All the lucky people that I've surveyed have strong sense of serendipity. It's the knack f finding treasures you may not have been looking for consciously. However, you do set an unconscious program in motion when you have clearly seen a picture of your desire in your mind's eye and you have colored that desire with emotion. You are perhaps familiar with James Allen 's classic little book As a Man Thinketh. The title comes from a verse uttered by King Solomon. "As a man thinketh in his heart ... " is a very meaningful expression. The heart, being the so-called seat of emotion, has great power to fuel what we see on our mind's picture screen. Here's how your superconscious comes into play; only after you have spent time "thinking in your heart" do those desires take on the ability to magnetize people, circumstances, and material objects. Next, when sufficient

attraction force has been developed, unexpected good fortune or serendipity may appear. These serendipitous events are signs. Pay attention to the signs, for they indicate the path to your success. When you start having serendipitous surprises with regularity, you begin to expect them with regularity. Yet, all these fortunate happenings are the fragrance of your main objective. They are the signs of your "lucky" acquisition about to be realized. Like attracts like and luck attracts luck. There is no way around it; lucky people have a strong sense of serendipity, and they create their own reality in harmony with their goals. To review, goals seen as mental pictures and colored with heartfelt emotion create an invisible attraction field. This attraction field carries the aura of serendipity. Serendipitous events are signs. Pay attention to the signs. Fast-forward from Fort Lauderdale to the beautiful southern mountains of the eastern US. Some of the original members of our Fort Lauderdale creative visualization group were seated in my living room, a roaring fire burning in the huge stone fireplace that soars 18 feet above us. We all committed to a moment of silence to honor the magic of life, nd looking around me, I was once again wed by the science of luck. I began outlining some exercises for optimizing one's luck, but one of the original members of our Florida group asked me, "Peter, can you tell the audience the story of the sign?" To oblige my friend, I decided to tell the story. "Well, the signs were everywhere as six of us arrived in this little resort town on the Fourth of July. The rental truck that contained all our earthly possessions resembled a pregnant elephant. I led the procession driving a red Cadillac Eldorado convertible. At the time, it only had a few thousand miles on it, and judging by the holiday traffic, it wasn't going to get many more. "Our caravan, by a stroke of good luck, pulled up to the office of the realtor I had spoken with from Florida. He looked like he 65

was about to have a stroke. Looking at six travel-weary faces, he stammered , 'Where will you be staying?' "'Why, Mike,' I said, putting my hands on his shoulders, 'that's why we're here, for you to find us a place!' "'Just look at all that traffic!' he exclaimed. 'Tonight's the big parade, and all this will be blocked off. There isn't a single motel or hotel or rental chalet or cabin on the mountain that isn't rented or occupied!' "'Mike, suppose that's not a problem. Do you have any other reason for not finding us a house with four or five bedrooms to rent? I'm sure we'd all like to shower and rest up a bit.' "'Are you crazy? I can't do that at such short notice,' said Mike. '''Sure you can . You never know, you might just get lucky. We'll wait while you make some calls,' I said. In fact, Mike didn't have a choice as long as we were parked in the parking lot-that is, unless he just fled on foot.

bout twent!y minutes, Mike came f his office 8hd said excitedly, 'I found use and it's got five bedrooms!' We nt up to look at it. Mike was so happy, ut the minute I stepped into the living om, I began shaking my head. 'What's the tter?' Mike asked more soberly. '''Brown carpet. It can't have brown carpet, Mike. It's a vibration thing. We have to have more cheerful carpet.' "Mike slapped his forehead and began wringing his hands nervously. 'I've only got one more lead, and it's probably not going to pan out.' "' Mike, listen," I told him. 'Never say anything you don't sincerely want to happen. If in your heart of hearts you don't want the six of us to spend the night at your house, you've got to take a more positive viewpoint.' "All the lucky people I know hold very positive expectations and are immune to rejection. Even if one opportunity doesn't pan out, they know in their heart of hearts that their world is filled with nothing but opportunities. They absolutely believe they lead charmed lives. 67

"Well, as luck would have it, a doctor had just purchased a new townhouse located on the summit of the mountain near the town. The unit had five bedrooms. The carpet was white. It was brand new. Even the doctor hadn't stayed there yet. The mountain views were awesome! The cost? Zero! For some strange reason, the stranger said we could stay in his new townhouse for nothing! "As the days passed, I knew I was driving Mike crazy. But I also knew he liked us. I know it's really tough being around a group of unlimited people. We drove up and down that mountain looking for the magical parcel of land I had described to Ann's father on the porch of my log cabin years ago. Mike insisted no such thing existed. I said it did. 'Mike, why do you think I would have gone through all this trouble to come up here, leaving the comfort of my beachfront condo, if it didn't exist?' He complained that my logic didn't make sense to him.

'''Good, Mike, now that we agree, call the owner and tell him I just bought it.'

"I took a folded index card from my wallet, looked him straight in the eye, and read aloud, 'Ask and it will be given you. Seek and you shall find.' Mike agreed to keep looking. 68

"I brought the sign to Mike. 'Mike, this is a lan,' I told him. "'Well, of course it's a sign!'

"'But you don't know how many acres there are or how much he's asking for the property,' Mike protested. I told him not to fuss about the details and just to call the owner. "The next day, Mike came over to our place. He said the owner lived in Florida and he asked a friend up here to put the sign up. He added, 'He was as mad as hell that you tore his sign out of the ground, and he changed his mind about selling it!' ''' Mike, just call him again,' I said. 'It's nothing personal, you just didn't explain yourself clearly enough.' 69

The next day, Mike came over again. 'Don't ask me to call him again. He's even hotter than he was the first time I called.' '''Mike, come over here. I want to show you something. Do you see that drawing hanging over the fireplace?" "Mike turned white, as if he'd seen a ghost or something, and ran out of the house to his pickup truck. Like a cat scratching up gravel, he sorted through papers in his truck. Then he ran back into the house, threw a survey map down on the table, and looked at my drawing again. 'Where on earth ... no, don't even begin to tell me where you got that!' he spluttered. "'Mike, I told you, I drew it,' I said. '''You couldn't have.' "'I did,' I said. 'It was part of my creative visualization exercise. Seek and you shall find. Ask and it will be given you.' "'But how could you draw a piece of property you never saw before on a poster?'

used to get out the old poster I had de, and the hundred people in my living om sat in amazement when I showed it them. I saw their mouths drop open as yewitnesses confirmed what I had just described to be the truth. Someone asked, "But at that point the owner was still refusing to sell. What made him change his mind?" I replied, "Mike said that same thing: 'He's still not changing his mind. And I'm not calling him again. And don't you get any silly ideas about calling him. You're the last person he wants to speak with!' "'Mike, he'll have a dream and he'll call you,' I said. Mike left in a huff. "Sure enough, the next day, I heard Mike's brakes slam as he pulled into the driveway. He rushed into the house with papers in his hand. 'He's agreed to sell, I drew up the 71

contract and told him I'd get you to sign it and I'll overnight him a contract as welL' I looked at the contract and said he'd made a mistake on the purchase amount. It was too much. Mike just about died on the spot. "Richard, the owner, had been a wealthy orange grower in central Florida, and he really didn't need the money. Somehow, there wasn't enough he could do for us. A year after the contract was signed, we stood in front of the house, looking up and seeing how nicely the three-story structure fit into the mountain. Richard shook his head and said, 'I shouldn't have done this!' He laughed warmly. 'I shouldn't have sold this!' "Later, we were sitting before the roaring fire with glasses of fine wine, and Richard asked how we worked such magic. Putting my hand on his shoulder, I replied, 'You have to pay attention to the signs.'"

CHAPTER SIX

Breathing Light into the Things You Desire plants didn't breathe, neither would we. That mysterious element sparks the Imagination with limitless possibilities. Plants breathe photonic emissions from the sun captured by oxygen molecules. Quite literally, plants breathe sunlight. The smallest particle of light is a photon. Each photon is a quantum of electromagnetic radiation. "Quantum" means a very small particle. A quantum is also described as a "magnetic moment." You can say that when there is an abundant flow of electromagnetic energy, there is a very strong attraction field. This is why, when you mentally engulf the image of the thing you desire with white light, you create an attraction force field. In a magnetic moment, you instantly draw to you what you want.

You don't have to understand how it will come to you, only that it will come to you unerringly. The only prerequisite is for you to breathe light into the thing you desire. Your body is loaded with solar energy cells, known as "80nghan corpuscles," which were discovered 44 years ago by Korean researchers. They found that the photosynthesis of plants was the same process as the metabolism in our bodies. Putting aside your body's ability to eat light and a plant's ability to eat light, both also radiate light. The cells of all living things radiate light. Another researcher, Herbert Pohl, discovered that animals, humans, plants, and even bacteria give off radio signals that are especially strong during cell division. These signals could be described as a flow of magnetic moments. A German physicist and chemist, Dr. Albert Popp, calls them "biophotons." These photons can come in any wavelength or color; the signals span the entire electromagnetic spectrum.

becomes excited, it emits a photon; magnetic moment is a form of mmunication.

It Is well

understood that the pineal gland in Igratory animals is responsible for giving uncanny abilities to particular creatures. It is Iso known that the pineal gland is not only a light receptor, but a biomagnetic organ, due to its high magnetite content. The ancients have long believed that the practice of breathing through the pineal gland gives you the ability to breathe light into the things you desire. It's just like when you pluck a guitar string and an oscillation of the string sends a tone. The smallest particle of a tone is called a phonon; it is the quantum of sound, a magnetic moment that sends a message.

The signals you and I receive from our televisions, computers, radios, and cell phones also span the entire electromagnetic spectrum that allows us to communicate. Light equals communication. When an

When you form an image with your eyes closed and you attempt to place your finger on it, you'll be pressing on your third eye, the spot between your eyebrows. Form an image and imagine you are inhaling light through that spot. As you repeat this exercise, you'll begin to notice an electrical tingle running upward along your spine, over your head and into your pineal gland. As the practice is repeated, this gland begins to flex, and strong surges of electromagnetic

76

77

The Awesome Science of Luck

currents become apparent. These are accompanied by bright flashes of white light. At th is point, you are breathing light. When you exhale, the energy cluster will drop down through the solar plexus to a spot two inches below your navel, at which time you'll begin to feel a subtle tingling in the palms of your hands, the bottoms of your feet, and the top of your head. When you inhale, your bones, muscles, and organs are charged up with biophotons; when you exhale, powerful electromagnetic currents are discharged. Now, here is the secret to breathing light into the things you desire. This universal light is everywhere; it connects all things within its electromagnetic spectrum. It is a messenger acting on your behalf. Every thought and every intention of the heart are carried on its wings. As you increase the light around the object of your desire, you are magnetizing it to yourself. Each contraction of the pineal gland becomes an atomic event. You have excited the atoms to such a degree that they are forced to emit their photons; that's why you see the ball of light around your desire. Once 78

desire is illuminated with the impulse of ntlon, you bless it and send it. It will not turn to you empty. Suddenly, you just got kyl

f course, I'll caution you, be careful what you wish for, because you're bound to receive it. Why do I say to exercise caution? ca use if you wish for a certain thing to ome into your life, you must really want it to be there. To refuse the offerings of the universe is to insult it, and insulting the universe is another way of creating bad luck. I hope that makes sense. Additionally, you must be very specific in your desires. You'll notice from your previous reading of the earlier chapters that all my visualizations were quite detailed: the color of the Fleetwood, the height of the fireplace, the size of the windows, the view, and so on . One thing I never focused on was how. The "how" is not your concern; the creation of the attraction field and the breathing of light into the things you desire are your concerns. The specificity of you r desires is, again, quite important. If you see yourself hand ling large stacks of hundred-dollar bills, you might find yourself working as a bank 79

teller, for instance! I heard of one man who told everyone that one day he would tour the South Pacific. Sure enough, he found himself drafted into the military and sailing on a troop ship to Vietnam. It wasn't what he had in mind. I've been guilty on a few occasions of asking for things I really didn't want in my heart of hearts. Sitting on my desk, there is a wonderfully crafted model of a white Cornish convertible Rolls-Royce. (I received it as a gift because I used the company's standard of excellence as an example in my seminars.) I used to joke about the fact that you'd never see one abandoned along the highway or found in a junkyard. In idle moments, I'd roll it around on my desk and pretend to drive it. I know, I know, it sounds a bit silly, but I've got a great imagination and, as you can tell, I'm quite playful. So, one day, Richard, the man who sold us this beautiful mountaintop property, and I were having that glass of wine that we poured in the last chapter. "Peter, since you influenced me so much as to have gotten the deal I gave you on the property, I'll make you an offer," he said.

80

ured he was about to offer me some type reward for helping him acquire or fulfill a rtain desire, but I never expected this. He continued, "If you can help me get Mr. X to sell me that old antique shop downtown, I'll give you my white Rolls-Royce!" Don't breathe too hard over things you aren't certain about, because it's too easy to breathe light into the things you do desire. Let's now go back and examine the relationship between breathing and luck. Lucky people, or at least consistently lucky people, have consciously or unconsciously created strong attraction fields for what they want. You could also say, in view of our other discussions about photons, that this attraction field is a "life" field. Now, for a moment, think about the air you breathe and how it makes you feel as you breathe it. If you happen to be confined in an office that is buzzing with electromagnetic pollution, noise, and anxiety, your personal attraction! life field is distracted. Our instinctual natures and natural impulses are inhibited by stress. Stress is the natural enemy to luck. Deep diaphragmatic breathing releases stress, 81

The Awesome Science ofLuck

muscular tension, and inhibited natural impulses, as well as our instinctual nature. You can compare the vitality of your air to the carbonation of a beverage. When the carbonation is lost, the beverage goes stale or flat. The same happens with the air you breathe. The air you breathe is a mixture of gaseous elements-mostly nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. In the lungs, these gases become blood. If your blood becomes flat or stale, you die. On the other hand, when the air you breathe is fresh and vital, your body will buzz and hum like a radio broadcasting station.

thing Light into the Things You Desire

sn't matter what element we're Iklng about, each atom is constructed certain number of protons. Protons Ide in the nucleus of the atom and have positive charge. Surrounding this nucleus f positively charged protons, there are an qual number of electrons, which have a negative charge. There is, however, one unique characteristic that the universe has built into the electrons' structure; they are quite fickle. Since they are 1800 times lighter than protons, under the right conditions, they can escape from the atom. You may be thinking "So what?" but under certain conditions, it could be the difference between your life and death.

In my 2001 book, How Long Do You Choose To Live?, in the chapter titled "Electric Breath," you'll find a magazine excerpt about two men in the Czech Republic who were able to make themselves into "human radio receiving sets." They put their hands on a loudspeaker and could tune in to any station within a range of several hundred miles. They were investigated by scientists and reporters alike, who remained baffled by the feat. The only explanation offered was that certain deep breathing exercises enabled them to become channels for information being broadcast on the airwaves.

Let me explain. When a large number of air ions become positively charged and the negative charge of the earth creates a strong attraction field, these positive ions fall to earth. When there is an electrical discharge en masse, this unbalanced atmospheric ionization alters behavior. An overdose of positively charged air can reduce your breathing capacity by as much as 30%. It also creates an adrenaline overload that soon exhausts the nervous system, raising anxiety levels.

82

83

r---- ...-,--.......... ::I

When the moon moves closer to the earth, as it does during a full moon, the lower portion of the ionosphere (between 25 and 250 miles from the earth), which is positively charged, is pulled into our atmosphere by the negative charge of the earth. The result is altered human behavior. Just like some people can forecast the coming of bad weather by the pains in their joints and old injuries, it's all electrical. The medical profession has even learned to treat cases of schizophrenia with negative ions. So, what's this all about and how does this relate to luck? First, remember that tension is the enemy of luck because it dulls the natural instincts and impulses that subtly provide us with various forms of information. Positive ionization causes free radicals; by that, I mean it encourages runaway electrons and creates an imbalanced attraction field. Thus, when you attempt to breathe light into the things you desire, your personal bioelectric condition is reduced, making it more difficult to excite the atoms in your pineal gland to release their photons. If you can't make the cloud of white light to place your desire in, you have severely handicapped its fulfillment. So, what are 84

u to do? Here are a few suggestions m ancient occult teachings. Wear only natural cotton (organic cotton), especially when doing these exercises. Shower in cold water first, before your visualization work begins. Tell no one what you are doing, for reat things are done in secret. Next, burn only the finest, highest-quality frankincense (available from www.roaringlionpublishing. com), never perfumed wood. Note: at one time, frankincense was the most valuable commodity on earth and more expensive than gold or diamonds. The ancients well understood its power to trigger internal chemical and hormonal reactions that assist in the ability to breathe light into the things you desire. Natural organic fabrics are a defense against the counterproductive effects of positive ions. Everyone knows the effect of being shocked by static electricity-it can happen when you touch the door of your car after coming out of a discount shopping center, or especially a laundromat. Why does this happen? It happens because steel and concrete absorb and trap negative ions and attract a charge from the friction of positively charged air passing over them, charging the metal in your car door. It's the same thing as 85

shuffling your feet on synthetic carpet and touching someone and getting a shock. I'm now going to add another element that helps you breathe light into the things you desire-sleeping on a magnetic mattress pad and using large ceramic plate magnets under your feet as you do your visualization. With the north side up, your power to create an attraction field for the things you desire is greatly increased. (The world's most powerful magnets are available from www. roaringlionpublishing.com.) While the ancients didn't have ceramic or rare earth magnets of the power available today, they did have magnetic lodestonethat's a strongly magnetic variety of iron ore. Cleopatra , Queen of Egypt, wore one over her third eye. Perhaps, had she worn my magnetic headband, she might have had better luck with snakes!

Ing back to cold showers for a moment, reason for them is that thought forms units of clustered bioelectric energy hAt stick to the body's aura like a balloon's tAUCelectric charge allows it to stick to the wall. Negative thought forms are like lectrical clothing that affects and colors the messages we receive from others and the xternal world. You 've most likely heard the term "breath of life." Photons carry life force, or vital energy. Deep breathing is like a blacksmith using the bellows to make his furnace white-hot so he can mold and shape the metal to his liking. You have the ability to use these tools to mold and shape your future, improve your luck, and control your destiny. You can breathe light into the things you desire.

Additionally, I would include another item they didn't have in the ancient world: a negative ion generator. Don't worry, as your luck improves, you'll have plenty of money to obtain one.

CHAPTER SEVEN

How Can You Tell If Something Is Right For You? Have you ever thought about it this wayyou touch things with your eyes and get kinesiological feedback? Sight is a subtle form of touch. If you don't believe me, consider a common occurrence. You're sitting in traffic and you glance over at the driver in the next lane. Suddenly, feeling your gaze, he turns toward you. What happened? You touched him with your faculty of sight, and he felt you looking at him. The reverse is also true, as you well know. Someone looks at you and you instantly feel it. Anyone who is vision-impaired has developed a great sensitivity to being touched by sight. Let me ask you a question. Visualize walking in a vacant lot filled with weeds. You're about to take a step when you notice an old board

with sharp rusty nails sticking upward. What sensation did you feel running through your body? Here's a more graphic example. You pick up the old board to turn it over so no one else will get hurt on the nails. Suddenly, your vision narrows in on a shiny black spider with a red hourglass on its abdomen, and you drop the board. Did you feel stronger or weaker? Well, it's quite obvious that your heart rate just increased as an adrenal dump or endocrine cascade took place, leaving you feeling weaker. We can agree that observing a terrible accident on the highway weakens us as well. But many would deny that the colors we wear, the odors we smell, the music we hear, the pictures we have on the wall, the way we arrange our furniture, or the people with whom we interact have any effect on our luck. A man by the name of James Stevens has devised an interesting apparatus for testing whether something we are looking at or thinking of doing is good for us or bad for us. This device can be seen at www.testyourself.info. It tests your muscle strength or physical reaction to a certain item, be it a vitamin, food, piece of clothing, 90

or a particular piece of music. There whole field of scientific study associated Ith this; it's called behavioral kinesiology, or Imply muscle testing. I

When energy is flowing properly through your body-you know, those days when you 're just humming and your world is perfect-you feel on top of the world. It is on those days that you feel lucky! In fact, not only do you feel lucky, you are lucky. When your physical antennas are up, you're tuning In to all good things and attracting them into your life. The bioelectrical circuits of your body are all in balance, and your muscles or energy pumps are all working powerfully, changing your posture so that it reflects a proud, erect being full of life. When you're vibrating like that, good things happen. Those good things we call luck . ..'.

Bad luck is when we don't notice the effects things have on us. For a detailed study of how your body reacts to things, please read Your Body Doesn't Lie by Dr. John Diamond, MD. It is my contention that you never have an accident without being warned at least three times in advance, just like you never have a divorce without many advance

91

warnings that something is wrong. Luck is the art of paying attention.

Il crlmlnate between what is good for you nd what isn't.

Paying attention is the art of remaining conscious. Remaining conscious is called consciousness. To be acutely conscious of the effect of every little thing-to realize that the flowers of the field, the birds in the trees, the chirp of a cricket, and a butterfly landing on your hand are all messages to be heard-is superconsciousness. In that state, you are very lucky, because you always know what is right for you.

donce has confirmed by countless tests that behavioral kinesiology is very accurate In telling a person if someth ing is good or bad for him/her. As you;jrilractice, soon you'l l begin to realize that all you have to do is hold an object in your hand or simply th ink about a target situation to get an answer from your superconscious mind. It will come as an impulse-subtle, but accurate. Soon, your entire environment becomes filled with lights that say "stop," "go," and "caution." If you obey these lights, how lucky do you suppose you'll be?

This is also the case with certain animals. Even if you look at them from a hidden place a hundred yards away, crows or deer will react with as much of a start as if you had actually touched them. In fact, you did; you touched the outer edge of their web of life, and they knew it. Humans, by and large, have dulled these sensitivities. When you practice keen observation coupled with acute sensitivity, you 'll begin to notice that every item you see and touch has a particular vibration. Once you are capable of distinguishing the differences between various items, you'll know how to

.. 92

Let's reason out th is one together. If muscle testing is accurate (and tests show it to be), then what else can we learn from an object? A number of years ago, my dog was playing with a rawhide chew. He threw it up into the air and it fell down deep into a snowbank. Then, he went on romping and running through the snow until he tired. When he returned, he sniffed the air, suddenly dove into the snowbank, and retrieved his rawhide chew. I was amazed that he could find it. You might say he was able to detect its scent. True. A bloodhound, given a sniff of 93
