My Future Career in Aviation Aviation – Personal P ersonal Essay The feeling that I get when flying through the sky high up in the clouds is like no other. othe r. Its like like an adrenaline ad renaline rush every ti!e I look down fro! the window. Aviation Aviation is so!ething that I really en"oy# and I a! writing why I want to pursue a career in aviation. This essay is a$out what I need to do in order to get into a career in aviation# and what the pros and cons are to pursuing a career as a pilot. %hether !y future lies in aviation# or anything else# its good to think a$out the !any aspects of !y future career. In the future# I would love to $e flying all over the world in !an y types of aircraft# e&cept not as a passenger# $ut as the pilot. My drea! is to one day get a pilots license. %hether its a private license or co!!ercial license# "ust $eing a$le to fly would $e a drea! co!e true. 'ince a young age I have $een really interested in $oth cars and airplanes. (owever I have grown to love airplanes and cars e)ual# e&cept cars I like to work on and drive# and airplanes I would like to fly. The ti!es that !y fa!ily has gone on a winter vacation# we have flown south. %henever we have flown I have never see!ed to feel or get sick# I always get a great feeling# and still cant $elieve how its possi$le to fly like the airplane is doing at that !o!ent. I have always loved the window seats# and especially the ti!es when they are right over the wings. Fro! this I have $een a$le see how so!e parts work# and get to watch the engine# and i!agine how it is pushing the !assive airplane forward. Then when landing $eing a$ le to see the flaps and !ost of o f the wing separate !echanically to different locations in order to slow down and land properly a!used !e# and I think seeing that "ust added to !y passion for airplanes and aviation. This has !ade !e desire to attend flight school eventually# to learn all a$out the principles and physics of flight. Fro! what I have researched# I would !ost likely attend Mountain City Aviation# Aviation# $ecause the staff are friendly and educated# it is close to where I live# and I have heard h eard of so!e great success stories fro! their training. I love to travel# and in the future I hope to travel to !any places or do so!e sort of !issions work in different areas of the world. *ust getting to transport people fro! place to place driving vehicles !akes !e happy# and whether flying flying a large or s!all aircraft# I $elieve "ust getting the people to their destinations would give !e a sense of pride and "oy. "oy. This su!!er I got to attend a discovery flight that is offered at Mountain City Aviation. Aviation. At At first I helped !ove the aircraft# and then the instructor showed !e how to perfor! pre+flight checks. I was nervous to $egin with# and then he told !e to get in# e&cept in the p ilots seat. I thought I would "ust $e in the co+pilots seat# so this was a surprise. After After getting past the nervousness# I felt great. ,nowing that I was controlling the airplane for the flight felt so aweso!e. I learnt !any things fro! that lesson# and can only i!agine how !uch !ore there is to learn. Even though it was a s!all Cessna plane# its a start# and I cant wait to see what types of airplanes I co uld $e flying in the future. In addition to why I want to pursue a career in aviation# I need to plan and research what I need to do and acco!plish in order to get into it. I plan on finding !ore infor!ation a$out different flight schools# $ecause I know its not always the $est to go with the first one that I saw. 'ending e!ails to different flight schools or setting up !eetings with the flight school instructors would $e great in order to get infor!ation on the various schools here in 'outhern Manito$a. This is a hard decision for !e# $ecause $ec ause I a! still unsure of what I want to do d o after high school. I think it would $e $est to set up another sort of discovery flight lesson $efore !aking the
Joel Fehr Fehr ECF 40S December 8th 2015 decision# in order to get the feel fee l for if its so!ething I would actually like to do whether for fun or as a career. After After high school# I have thought though t a$out it# and think that it would wou ld $e $est to take a year or two in order to figure everything out# and save up !oney. Many things cost a lot of !oney these days# and flight school is no e&ception. -etting the !any d ifferent ratings for flying can add up real )uick# however it shouldnt get in !y way wa y of pursuing a career as a pilot. If I find that its so!ething so!ething I for sure want to do# then applying to a flight school would $e the ne&t step. Many flight schools have easy to navigate we$sites# and applications right on their we$sites. 'hould I get into a flight school# I would try !y $est to $e deter!ined with learning all I can even if it gets hard# staying positive is also hard# $ut helps. Focusing on the goal of attaining !y license whether it $e private or co!!ercial# would $e !y focus until I graduate fro! flight school# and then I would search and apply for co!panies if I go for !y co!!ercial license# or "ust $e a private pilot# and fly fa!ily# fa!ily# and friends to different different locations and "ust have fun doing the career or ho$$y that I a! passionate a$out.
Every "o$ has good and $ad things a$out the!# even the careers that I a! passionate a$out contain there pros and cons of the "o$# and its i!possi$le to have all pros# so its $est to !ake the !ost out of the cons and $ad parts of the "o$. I have always worried that in order to $e a pilot# I would need to $e a genius at !ath. Pilots have to calculate their distance to and fro! whatever destination they !ay $e travelling to# and then calculate how !uch fuel they are going to need in order to get to or fro! a certain destination. This has scared !e $ecause I feel I would do so!ething wrong# $ut I know that I would $e trained properly# and would !ost likely not start doing stuff like that right when I would start. If I decide to pursue a career as a pilot# I think it would $e $est to start soon while I! still younger $ecau se if I would only start later in life# then if I would have fa!ily I would never $e around unless I !anaged to get a "o$ in and around the area where I live at the ti!e. Its a really hard decision $ecause even if I would do it soon# sure I would $e travelling the world# which is so!ething I would like to do# however I would never see !y friends. Even though it takes a while to get the co!!ercial license I would still not want to $e away fro! fa!ily and friends. The one guy who graduated fro! Mountain City Aviation Aviation was around / or 0 when he got his co!!ercial license# and I! sure he chose to go# $ut he got a "o$ in -er!any with an airline co!pany. 1ow 1ow he is in his 23s# 23s# and see!s to !ake a good salary# $ut I guess that is the sacrifice that would have to $e !ade if its its so!ething youre really passionate a$out. According According to a paper I have fro! Mountain City Aviation# Aviation# the cost of flight flight training after everything is said and done# will $e e)ual to the a!ount spent on a university degree# however an airline pilot is !ore e!ploya$le# and the costs can $e !ade up for $y the salary that is !ade after a few years. 4eing a co!!ercial pilot# you would spend !any hours sitting in the sa!e spot. Even though you can take s!all $reaks# it can get tiring sitting in the sa!e seat and $eing in such a s!all area with 2 or 5 other co+workers. Another pro# is that it is a great ti!e to get !y pilots license if I still want# $ecause the aviation industry is a$out to hit the $iggest surge in pilot hiring in history. history. The $iggest positive in !y opinion is# $y 2320 an esti!ated 677#783 co!!ercial pilots will $e needed# which is a$out 25#533 new pilots p ilots a year. 639 of these is to cope with the $oo!ing air travel in the Asia+Pacific region in the ne&t while. A!ong the other factors is a large a!ount of pilot retire!ents in the :'A# changes to rules that increase pilot training# resting# and working ti!e# and an increase in de!and in the :'A as the econo!y i!proves. %hether I get to fly large# cool airplanes# !eet lots of friendly faces and
Joel Fehr Fehr ECF 40S December 8th 2015 $ring the! across the world# or "ust pilot a s!all aircraft aircraft with !y private pilots pilots license# and $ring !y fa!ily and friends on short trips. It will all $e doing the thing that I drea! of and love so !uch; flying. Even the cons a$out the "o$ whether it $e aviation# !echanic# or anything else wont stop !e fro! pursuing the future career that I would en "oy.
I! not sure what !y future !ay hold# ho ld# $ut I would love to $e a pilot. This would allow !e to travel# transport people# and have a career that I have drea!ed a$out since a young age. I !ay need to do )uite a $it in order to acco!plish acco !plish this goal# $ut if I continue to get infor!ation on different flight schools# save up !oney# and $e deter!ined and positive# !y drea! of flying could one day $eco!e $eco !e a reality. Any career has its pros and cons# however if I dont think a$out the cons# or try to get a "o$ near fa!ily and friends# and dont worry a$out the costs# and if I will $e a$le to calculate and do the stuff that is needed# then the cons wont see! so $ad. Even if they continue to $e $ad# then I will !ake the !ost of the pros of $eing a pilot. I will $e doing do ing so!ething I love# I will get to see the world while !eeting new people# and there is a good possi$ility of getting a "o$ in the aviation industry. industry. The cons of the "o$ shouldnt stop !e fro! doing the things I love# and I need to "ust find a way to have the pros outweigh or co!pletely evaporate the cons. I think that in the future I will go for !y private pilots license# $ecause that is the one I feel I want the !ost at this point in !y life. Thinking of why I want to pursue $eing a pilot# what I need to do in order to get it done# and what the pros and cons are of the "o$# are good things to do $ecause its good to think a$out the !any aspects of !y future career.
