Islamic Perspective of Spiritual Healing Spiritual Healing of Body, Mind and Spirit through Qur'an.

Abstract

Explore practical Spiritual Healing inspired by ideas in the Holy Qur'an. Spiritual Healing and Wellness is based on religious resources driven from Allah (God).

Healing in Islam began with Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the Muslim prophet, who was said to have encouraged the use of plants, prayers and fasting to cure illnesses. From the 9th to the 17th centuries, physicians and scientists in the Islamic world conducted experiments and published their findings, much of which became the basis for Western medicine. Modern Islamic spiritual healing attempts to bridge the gap between spirituality and science by using the two for treatment. While spiritual healers specialize in different practices, all of them recite, write or, in some cases, have their patients consume verses of the Holly Quran. When you experience spiritual healing of mind, body and spirit you can remove the effects of stress, illness, and emotional and physical distress. When you are spiritually healed you feel like you are rising above it all. Like you can conquer the world, you will discover healing when you feel like you are broken, you become aware of what is causing your problems, why you are so stressed, you also open your heart to self love and compassion. Any reference to Allah is in the arabic language means One True God.

PREFACE

In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful. “Praise be to Allah, The Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds, Most Gracious, Most Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment Thee do we worship and Thine aid we seek, Show us the straight way; The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace Those whose (portion) is not wrath, And who go not astray.” Praise be to the Lord of the Universe who has created us and made us into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other. Even though the Qur'an claims we have great power over evil, the way most of us actually live is humiliatingly different. Believers are invincible in the face of evil only when they are in total submission to Allah (God) and would rather suffer torture or loss or death than let evil win. For those who are in union with Allah, evil spiritual powers are nothing but caged beasts, unable to touch us. Satan’s entire forces can only resort to idle threats or bribes to entice us into entering their cage where they can rip us apart. Nevertheless, Satan is such a supernaturally powerful evil genius that he can end up luring into his cage every living Believers. If the enemy inclines towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust in God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things. And the servants of God, Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when we address them, we say, “Peace on Earth and Peace in our inner-self.”

Human beings suffer from physical and spiritual illnesses. A person who suffers from physical and spiritual illnesses should seek treatment immediately; otherwise it will get worse and be hard to heal. In order to protect ourselves from physical and spiritual illnesses, we need to clean and purify ourselves physically and spiritually. Most physical and spiritual illnesses are caused by uncleanness. We need to watch our eating and drinking habits, maintain a healthy weight, keep our morale high, and distance ourselves from negative energy. A well-known Turkish Healer Lokman Hekim summarizes the medicine: Keep your feet warm, your head cool, Keep up a job don’t think too much. Do not neglect exercise, especially jogging. A working iron doesn’t rust. Walking can prevent body aches and arthritis. Because we live in a world where we encounter daily problems, worries about our business, and family life; we are under enormous physical and mental pressures.

Without a relationship with the Creator, depression and loneliness can overcome us. We try to anchor our hopes for survival by holding on to pieces of wood that float upon this turbulent sea of life. Often in despair, we seek sorcerers, fortunetellers, and those who call on spirits or practice witchcraft. We do this in the hope of hearing some soothing news and finding consolation. The secret of a truly successful life is to have an obedient knowledge of God's Word in a living relationship with God. It is only God who is capable of giving consolation to the insecure soul. As Socrates said, “I dress the wound and God heals it.” The Prophet Abraham also acknowledged this: “and when I am ill, it is He who cures me” [The Noble Qur’an 26:80]. God himself attests to it by saying: “If God touches thee with an affliction, no one can remove it but He” [The Noble Qur’an 6:17] “If anyone saved a life it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people.” [The Noble Qur’an 5:32] The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him ( ) says: “If you can help your brother, do not hesitate to help.” “Advise good and prohibit Evil”. Inform your brothers and sisters that psychics, mediums and false religious figures put you in jeopardy of becoming an infidel.

Today many people believe that psychics can know the future and the knowledge behind the veil. Allah (c.c.) says in the Noble Qur’an: Say: None in the heavens or on earth except Allah knows what is hidden: nor can they perceive when they shall be raised up (for Judgment). [The Noble Qur’an 27:65] The Prophet Muhammad (puh) says: “Whoever goes to psychics, mediums, and magicians and asks them something and accepts what they have to say is denying what was revealed to Muhammad.” (Hakim Hadiths Book) In another hadith the prophet says: “Whoever goes to a psychic asks for something and if believes what he says his prayer will not be accepted for forty days.” (Muslim Hadiths Book) Caliph Ali says: “An Oracle is a sorcerer, and a sorcerer is an infidel.” Using a sorcerer is forbidden in Islam as the above quotations illustrate. One must seek

medical attention for one’s physical illnesses. If you want an illness to be resolved, the Prophet Muhammad (puh) advises us that we should do istihare, asking for divine guidance through a dream. (You lie down to sleep after performing duties of prayer in the hope that Allah will speak to you through a dream.) Please warn those who seek a cure from psychics: “Nor did they (usually) forbid one another the iniquities which they committed: evil indeed were the deeds which they did.” [The Noble Qu’ran 5:79] This book has been written to suggest that you seek Allah’s straight path through the Holy, Noble Qu’ran.

PART I - SIGNS AND DIAGNOSIS

Analysis and definition of Jinn and Devils Many people do not realize that other creatures share this world with us. The Jinn and Devils share our houses and eat and drink with us. They are capable of spoiling our thoughts and hearts and can drive us to destroy our own species. The existence of a world parallel to our own has always fascinated people. This world is commonly referred to as the spirit world, and almost every group of people has some concept of it. For some people these spirits are simply souls of dead people or ghosts. With others, spirits are either the forces of good or evil - both battling against one another to gain influence over humanity. However, both these explanations are more in tune with folk tales and fantasy. The true explanation of such a world comes from Islam. Islam explains this realm of the unseen as the world of the Jinn. The Islamic explanation of the Jinn provides us with many answers to modern day mysteries. Fortunately, texts of the Glorious, Noble Qu’ran and the Sunnah reveal to us the secrets of the Jinn and Devil's existence. Such texts provide us with information about the details of their lives, the enmity between mankind and them, that has been alive since Prophet Adam (pbuh). There is evidence of the intriguing actions the Jinn perform to mislead and destroy the children of Adam. What are the JINN? The jinn are a world of their own different from humans or Angels. However they do possess some characteristics in common with human beings, such as the ability to think, reflect, and as we do, eat and drink, marry, have children and die. Their life span is far greater then ours; they have the ability to choose between good and evil. Jinnn and Devils have one major difference, their origin. They are called 'jinn' because they are obscured from humansight. Allah, sub hanahu wa ta'ala, said: “Verily he (Satan) and Qabiluhu (his solders from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them” (The Noble Qur’an 7:27) We are informed by Allah that the jinn were created from 'marijin min nar' (i.e., fire) as He says in the Glorious The Noble Qur’an: “And the jinn, We have created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire”(55:27) And:“ And the jinn: He created from a smokeless flame of fire ”(The Noble Qur’an 55:15) According to Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, Al Hasan al-Basri and others, the meaning of marijin min nar is the extremity of the flame, and in one narration it is described as the purest and best (of fire). In his commentary on Sahih Muslim Imam An-Nawawi said: The smokeless flame of fire is that mixed with the blackness of the fire. In a Hadith recorded by a Muslim on the authority of Aisha, the Prophet, sallallahualayhe wa sallam said: “The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire and Adam was created from what has been described to you [by Allah in the The Noble Qur’an]”.

Jinn are beings that cannot be seen with human eyes. Jinn can also give visions to humans which science calls hallucinations. Ordinarliy we cannot see the Jinn, unless they take a material form, which is usually an unpleasant or ugly form such as a snake or a black dog, versus angels who take pleasant and handsome forms. Where were they created? The jinn were created before mankind, as Allah says: “And indeed, We created man out of clay of altered sound mud. And the jinn, We created before from a scorching flame of fire” [The Noble Qur’an 15:26-27]. The Jinn are a living creation of Allah, created from the smokeless flame of fire. They share the material world with humans. Though they are invisible to us, they eat and drink with us, and also have the ability to inhabit the human body and influence our thoughts. They are stronger than humans and can take different forms and shapes, amongst them are Muslims and Kafirs. Some of the pre-Islamic polytheists claimed that the word 'jinn' meant the souls of the planets. Some philosophers, modern and contemporary, claim that the jinn are the evil inclinations of the souls of mankind while the angels refer to the good inclinations of mankind. However, a number of contemporary scientists believe that the jinn are the microorganisms discovered every day by modern science. In his interpretation of Suratul Jinn (Chapter 72 in the Glorious The Noble Qur’an), Muhammadal-Bahi says that the jinn are the angels. To him, the jinn and the angels are one entity; there are no distinguishing characteristics that differentiate one species from the other. He believed that jinns and angels are invisible to mankind. He concluded that the jinn are more like humans as far as belief in Allah is concerned: some believe in Him, others do not. Having no concrete Knowledge of them is not a proof that they do not exist Those who deny the existence of the jinn have no proof to support their denial. They purport that they cannot believe in something of which they possess no tangible knowledge. Allah, Subhanahu wa tatala, says: “Nay, they have belied the knowledge whereof they could not comprehend and what has not been fulfilled”[10:39]. The jinn are intelligent beings, responsible for their own actions that have received ordainments from Allah to perform certain deeds and abstain from others. Dogs and donkeys can see them. It is recorded in Musnad of Ahmed and Sunan of Abu-Dawud that the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa sallam, said: “If you hear the barking of dogs or the braying of donkeys during the night, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, because they can see what you cannot”. Satan and the Jinn Satan, who is repeatedly mentioned in the The Noble Qur’an, belongs to the world of the jinn. He lived among the angels and worshipped Allah. When Satan refused to prostrate before Allah from vanity, pride, arrogance and envy, he was cast out of Heaven and Allah's mercy. After Satan lost hope of receiving mercy from Allah, he was named 'Iblees' which derives from the Arabic root 'alabalas' denoting one who has no good in ruin; when transformed into past participle'ublisa' it means 'despaired and lost.' Many of the early Islamic scholars believed that Satan's original name was 'Azaazeel'.

Was Satan the origin of the jinn or was he merely one of them? No textual evidence (that is text from the The Noble Qur’an or the Sunnah) can confirm that Satan was the origin of all the jinn; he was simply one of them as stated in the The Noble Qur’an:“ “except Iblees (Satan). He was one of the jinn” [l8:50]. However, Ibn Taymiyyah’s opinion is that Satan is the origin of all the jinn. The jinn eat and drink, marry and reproduce. The first two characteristics, eating and drinking, can be inferred from the saying of the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa salam: “When one of you eats, he should eat with his right hand. And when one of you drinks he should drink with his right hand. Verily, Satan eats and drinks with his left hand”. How Jinn manipulate humans? When a spiritualist contacts a Jinni, the Jinni takes advantage of his ability to acquire different forms and adopts the appearance of the dead and pretends to be the returned souls. This is one of the ways by which the Satan attempts to deceive humans and lead them astray. For example, on the Day of the Battle of Badr, a devil came to the polytheist of Quraysh in the shape of Suraqah bin Malik. This incident is also related in the Qur'aan in Soorah al-Anfal (8): 48: "(Remember) when the Satan (evil Jinn are called Satan meaning 'devils') made their (evil) deeds seem fair to them and said: 'No one of mankind can overcome you this Day (of the battle of Badr) and verily, I am your neighbor (for each and every help).' But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he ran away and said: 'Verily, I have nothing to do with you. Verily! I see what you see not. Verily, I fear Allah for Allah is severe in punishment." Another incident is related in Saheeh al-Bukharee; a Jinni came to Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahu anhu) several times, when he was in charge of the alms in Ramadan. Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahu anhu) narrates: "Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) ordered me to keep Sadaqah (al-Fitr) of Ramadan. A man came and started taking handfuls of the foodstuff stealthily (of the Sadaqah). I took hold of him and said: "By Allah, I will take you to Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam)." He said: "I am needy and have many dependents, and I am in great need." I released him, and in the morning Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) asked me: "What did your prisoner do yesterday?" I said: "O Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam)! The person complained of being needy and of having many dependents, so, I pitied him and let him go." Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said: "Indeed, he told you a lie and he will come again." Then the visitor came again and the same episode repeated twice, after which Allah's Messenger asked: "O Abu Hurayrah! … Do you know whom you were talking to, these three nights?" Abu Hurayrah said: "No!" He (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said: "It was Satan." [Saheeh al-Bukharee 3/ 505] The Satan has the ability to appear as dead people and perform supernatural feats at graves and tombs. People witness these apparitions and have faith and hope in the powers of the dead and they call upon the grave stone and spirit of the departed to fulfill their needs instead of Allah and thus commit Shirk...and this is exactly what the Satan intends. Shaikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) said:

"To take the graves as idols is the first step towards polytheism; it is why some visitors to graves hear voices, see visions, and witness strange affects which are taken for a miracle of some righteous deceased person. They are the Jinn and the Satan.” For instance, they observe an open grave and the deceased comes out, talks with people and embraces them. Such a thing may be witnessed near the graves of the Divine Apostles; in reality it is Satan. Indeed, the Satan assumes the form of a human being and says: 'I am so and so Prophet.' 'I am so and so Shaikh'; and he tells a lie… The ignorant person believes that the one who came out of the grave and caressed him or conversed with him, was the inmate of the grave, or was a righteous person or a Divine person. In contrast to it, a perfect believer knows without any shadow of doubt that he is Satan." [Kitab alWasilah (English Translation) pp. 42] The Noble Qur’an mentions Jinn that have conscious beings are known among the folks as “Faery”, “ghost”, “aliens” or “Jinn”.

Jinns can easily manipulate humans into sexual fantasies. Almost every kind of deviate sexual experience which, can appear normal, can be generated by evil spirits. They delight in inflicting pain, fear, nighttime fears, forbidden sleep, restless nights, insomnia, pressure sleep, nightmares, tormented dreams, blockage in family relationships, damage to the family structure, family destruction, family disunity, separation from family, hurt feeling, miscommunication, lack of communication, destructive lust, impotence in husbands, fear of sex in marriage or frigidity in wives, gynecological disorders, dissatisfaction, frustration, desolation, defilement, immorality, free love, sexual curiosity, abnormal adolescence, lewdness, sexual impurity, sex perversion of all kinds, rape, assault, abuse, child molestation, sexual desire for children (Pedophilia), uncleanness, seduction, abnormal sensitivity, lasciviousness, occult sex, uncontrolled sex, incubi, succubi, masculinity in females, lesbian spirits, femininity in males, homosexuality spirits, bisexuality, promiscuity, adultery, prostitution, harlotry, fornication, sexual fantasies, cruelty, nudity, pornography, sex with animals, anal sex, sadism, masochism, incest (having unlawful sex with close relative like father, mother, sister, brother, uncle aunt..etc.), filthy dreams, filthy conversation, shame, condemnation, guilt, depression, suicide, sorrow, hopelessness, unhappiness, bitter disappointment, rebellion, all kind of rejection, confusion, shame, anger, failure, arrested development in body, mind, will and emotions (Satan's emissaries work constantly to control the individual by disrupting this three part harmony causing stunted growth in body, strong emotions and mental anguish on their victims). The jinn have intellect, discrimination, freedom, and the power to choose between right and wrong, between true and false, and good and bad. They have consciousness like humans therefore they will be held responsible for their actions. They have enormous egos, love to get attention, take control of lives, manipulate and torture human beings. The jinn have a weak character, anger quickly and are stubborn. “And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinn: but the Jinn know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before His judgment-seat)!” [The Noble Qur’an 37:158] However there are also messengers and prophets from within the community of jinn. Allah has sent prophets and messengers to the jinn from within the jinn community. Also, Allah sent the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to mankind, to the jinn, and to other creatures. In Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle), Allah explains that He sent messengers to men and to jinn: “O ye assembly of Jinns and men! Came there not unto you messengers from amongst you, setting forth unto you My signs, and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say: "We bear witness against ourselves." It was the life of this world that deceived them. So against themselves will they bear witness that they rejected Faith.” [The Noble Qur’an 6:130]. Every human has a Jinn partner that accompanies him/her till death. Allah's Apostle said:

“There is none amongst you with whom is not an attached from amongst the jinn (devil). They (the Companions) said: Allah's Apostle with you too? Thereupon he said: Yes, but Allah helps me against him and so I am safe from his hand and he does not command me but for good. (Hadith Sahih Muslim 6757, Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, similar narration 6759 by 'Aisha, r.a.) Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘The jinn are of three types: those with wings that fly through the air; a type that looks like snakes and dogs; and a type that stops for a rest then resumes its journey.” [Shaykh al-Albaani said in alMishkaat (2/1206, no. 4148): al-Tahhaawi and Abu’l-Shaykh reported it with a saheeh isnaad] The jinn are NOT fallen angels. They were created from a smokeless flame of fire. The first recorded jinn to be disobedient is Satan (Lucifer). The Qareen (Companion - Comrade Jinn) Every human has been assigned a Jinni to be his constant companion. He is called 'Qareen' and he encourages evil desires. ). They attempt to lead us astray throughout life. It is a challenge for us to be conscious of their presence and not do what they say. By doing good deeds and suppressing bad thoughts we can weaken the ill effects of our individual shaythaan. Satan provides a constant presence so that we humans may choose to ignore his bad advice and follow Allah’s command. The Shaythaan of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) converted to Islam. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) once told his companions: "Every one of you has been assigned a companion from the Jinn." They asked: "Even you, O Messenger of Allah (pbuh)!" He replied: "Even me, except that Allah has helped me against him and he has submitted. Now he only tells me to do good." [Saheeh Muslim] It is this Qareen, who is responsible for knowing the character and deeds of the dead. For example, during séances a Jinni often pretends to contact the dead and allows it to speak to the living. In fact, the Jinn had contacted the Qareen of the dead. The Qareen, who was a constant companion of the dead person and knew his entire life history, will be able to mimic the voice of the deceased and answer any questions accurately (about the dead person's life), thus fooling those present into believing that they are in the presence of spirits. Crossing over and communicating with dead souls is not possible and this is the work of evil spirits. Souls of the dead cannot and do not come back to earth, they cannot appear or converse with the living inhabitants of the Earth. Causing people to believe in the return of the souls is one of the means adopted by Satan to misguide mankind. By pretending to be returned souls of the dead along with the performance of extraordinary feats, they deceive people into believing in the powers of the dead. This has become a religious science of its own having no basis in the Qur'aan or the Sunnah. Ultimately, it leads to the worship of the souls of the dead and in reality worship of the Satan himself. [See Majmoo al-Fatawa v.1/p.359-61] Satan provides a constant presence so that we humans may choose to ignore his bad advice and follow Allah’s command. In order to get rid of such demon comrade, one should continuously recite the Qur'an, particularly the verse of Al-Kursi (verse number 255 of Surat Al-Baqarah), and the last two verses of the same Surah.

Seeking Help from Jinn Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz, Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez Aal al-Shaykh, Shaykh ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Ghadyaan, Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan, Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (24/287-289) They were also asked about seeking the help of the jinn to find out about the evil eye or witchcraft, and also about believing the jinni who is possessing the sick person because of witchcraft and the evil eye, and relying on what he says. They replied: It is not permissible to seek the help of the jinn to find out about the nature of the problem and the type of remedy with which to treat it, because seeking the help of the jinn is shirk. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the males among the jinn, but they (jinn) increased them (mankind) in sin and transgression” [The Noble Qur’an al-Jinn 72:6]
