ENGLISH WEEK 22 – 26 JULY 2013 SK SUGUD, PENAMPANG 2013.
ABSTRACT: The English Week, organized by the English Department, offers a number of interesting language-based activities for all the students of SK Sugud, Penampang. The objectives of the program include inculcating the love of the English language in the participants. Furthermore the program is held to stimulate the students' interest in the English language as it promotes learning outside the classroom context. Through participation in the activities, students' self-concept, self-confidence and self-esteem are enhanced.
RATIONALE:
English Week (EW) is aimed at promoting the use of English as a communicative tool in authentic situations. Students will enjoy themselves in a non-threatening and nurturing environment when using the language. The focus of doing things outside the language classroom will help the student to relax and not be intimidated by others who are fluent in the English language. Support from friends and the activities planned will help students to enjoy what they are doing, and thus break the barrier that some students have when they are reluctant to use the English language.
AIM: English Week provides an opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in an English-speaking environment via healthy, educational and enjoyable activities. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of EW to enable participants to: 1. Communicate effectively and confidently in the English language. 2. To promote the use of English among students 3. Develop positive attitudes and values. 4. Realize self-worth. 5. Think critically and creatively in English. 6. Encourage participation of students in school-level competitions
