Leo Brouwer est né á la Havane en 1939 et a étudié la guitare et la composition á Cuba. En 1959, II est inscrlt au Juiliard School of Musíc et á J'Université de Hartford oú II se spécialise en composition. En 1960, M est rtommé directeur de l'lnstitut Cubain de cinema et professeur d'harmonie et de contrepoint au Gonservatoire nationai Roldan ¿ la Havane. II devfent ensuíte professeur de composition au Con* servato! re. Leo Brouwer est consideré comme l'un des composiíeors les plus importants eí les plus proli fiques de la guitare classique et ses oeuvres sont jouées par plusieurs grands guitarfstes, dont John Williams et Narcisco Yepes, Outre ses composítions pour guitare, il a écrít des ballets, des operas ainsi que des oeuvres pour orchestre et ensambles dívers. Comme soliste» il a donné des concerts á travers ie monde et il a été reconnu pour avoir un répertoire des plus varíes. II a en* registré plusieurs disques avec Deutsche Grammophon, Erato ef Musical Heritage Society, Comrne chef d'orcrtestre» Leo Brouwer a dirige plusieurs orchestres de grande re* nommée íncluant fa Philharmonie de Berlín. Actuellement, Leo Brouwer est conseiller pour le Ministre de la culture de Cuba et direeteyr artistique de i'orchestre symphoníque de la Havane.

Leo Brouwer mas born in Havana in 1939 and studied guitar and composition in Cuba, 1959-1060 he aítended Juiliard School of Music and Hartford University where he speciaiized In composltlon. In 1961 he was appolnted Director of the Cuban Cinematographic Instltute and professor of harmony and counterpofnt at the Nationai fíoldan Conservatory in Havana. Followlng thes& appointments, he was made professor of composltlon at the Conservatoire. Leo Brouwer is considsred to be one of the most important and prolific composers for the classical guitar and hls works have been perfcrmed by many renowned guitarists, Includlng John Williams and Narcisco Yepes. In addftion to his compositions for guiter he has wrítten ballets, operas as welt as works for orchestra and ensemble. As a performer Leo Brouwer has given concerts all over the worfd to critícal acclafm and he Is acknowledged as havlng one of the most varied repertoires of con' cert guitarists. He has recorded several albums on Deutsche Qrammophon, Erato and Musical Heritage Society fabels. As a conductor Leo Brouwer has appeared with mafor orch&stras in many countríes, Including the Berlín Philharmonie. Atpresent Mr. Brouwer serves as advisor to the Minister of Culture and as Artistic Director of the Havana Symphony Orchestra.
