INTRODUCTION: Yoga is a commonly known generic term for the physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India with a view to attain a state of mental and physical peace life. It is a methodical way to attain perfection, through the control of the different elements of human nature- both physical and mental. The Bachelor of Science in yoga education is a three-year course of graduation. Post-graduate and doctorate courses are also included in the university curriculum. Yoga enables its students to acquire perfect control over physical body, the mind and senses. It is the turning away of senses from the objective universe and concentrating it on the mind within. By practicing yoga there is perfection, peace and everlasting happiness which also help in developing business and in daily life. As the demand for mental peace and physical fitness has increased, people have become more aware to be educated in yoga through professional institutions. There is a constant increase of people practicing yoga; hence there is an increase in number of students to pursue yogic education.
AIM: The aim of the project is to design a yoga institution whose main objective is to teach yoga in an academic curriculum to the students who seek to come to learn different forms of yoga and their benefits and to revitalize the essence of yogic awareness and compose
an environment that helps students develop an affinity with nature and develop on the techniques of yoga to a higher level. OBJECTIVE:
To design an institute on the concepts of yoga sutras by Patanjali. Use of traditional and local materials and elements. To create a barrier free accessible design environment. Integration of open and semi-open spaces with courtyards.
SCOPE: Study of ancient yoga sutras and forms of yoga which leads to the base of the design. The institute shall comprise of administration block, academic block, hostels, and guest houses for invited dignitaries, staff quarters and meditation blocks.
LIMITATIONS: The project limits to academic and training blocks. The rest shall be delt at the site level. The design shall not go into the depths of the funding The emphasis is on the improvement of the physical development of the site.
2. RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION: Boarding school is a school where some or all people study and live during the school year with their fellow students and possibly teachers and/or administrators. The word 'boarding' is used in the sense of "bed and board," i.e., lodging and meals. Parents who want their child to be self-sufficient and independent send them to the residential school. Residential schools cater to children who are 10 years or above. The residential school campus environment ensures that students are immersed in an educational world where learning is central to all activities. Students are entitled to a good curriculum and a better study environment than what is at present the norm of corporate schools. Where there is no emphasis on physical activity and pressurizing the student beyond their limit. Residential schools deem to remedy this draw back, where there is emphasis on qualitative education, physical fitness and extracurricular activities. There is a necessity for more residential schools which prepares the students for finest university life; in addition they learn how to be responsible and better prepared for future academic rigors. They are conditioned for future success and encouraged to achieve to their full potential.
AIM: The aim of the project is to design a residential school which is an embodiment of both the ancient Gurukul experience and modern teaching techniques put together to promote camaraderie among the students.
OBJECTIVE: To design a school on the concepts of ancient Gurukul style architecture with modern teaching techniques. Barrier free and accessible designing. Visual communication. Use of traditional materials to bring out the Gurukul style buildings.
SCOPE: The school shall comprise of administration block, academic block, library building, hostels, staff quarters, playground and sports activity spaces. Integrating the gurukul style architecture into the design. Site to be located in a stress free and noise free environment preferably in a hill station.
LIMITATIONS: The design shall not give any detailed work such as construction details. The design shall not go into the depth of the project costs.
