OEB 42 (A320) – OEB 30 (A330/A340) Background

The FMS may compute a vertical trajectory not in accordance with the profile coded in the Navigation DataBase (NDB). Conditions:

• NDB coding as follows: • The Final Approach Fix (FAF) has an “AT OR ABOVE” altitude constraint •  A Flight Path Angle (FPA) is coded on the FAF. Cockpit effects:

• FINAL APP is correctly followed but based on an erroneous trajectory • VDEV is 0

OEB 42 (A320) – OEB 30 (A330/A340)

• Operational recommendations • If the flight crew knows that the approach is impacted, no FINAL APP • If the flight crew does not know that the approach is impacted, no FINAL APP

• Problematic •  Around 3000 approaches impacted in the world • Identification of potentially impacted approaches only by NDB engineering • Need to identify impacted approaches • Need to authorize FINAL APP mode on non impacted approaches

OEB 42 (A320) – OEB 30 (A330/A340)

• How to identify t he potentially impacted approaches? • The Flight Operations/Engineering department can: • Use the list of approaches published by Airbus OR

• Identify with a NDB tool reader  A specific Airbus World topic is available to provide details on this process

• Contents of Airbus World topi c • Guidelines to identify the potentially impacted approaches • List of approaches potentially impacted

OEB 42 (A320) – OEB 30 (A330/A340)

• In all cases , the Flight Operations/Engineering department should confirm the list of impacted approaches with simulator or in flight in VMC conditions. This enables to further reduce the list of impacted approaches.

• If the flight crew does not know if the approach procedure is potentially impacted or not:

• Refer to OEB procedure • In case of doubt, no FINAL APP
