Overview
All-Native Transport All-Native transport is ECI's architecture to support PTN. All-Native transport is based on native handling of both packet and TDM by the same network element (NE). The Ethernet traffic is processed natively and delivered over Ethernet interfaces without traversing the TDM component of the dual matrix. The TDM traffic is cross connected via the TDM HO/LO component of the dual matrix. Keeping the TDM and Ethernet switching fabrics independent enables complete separation between the different traffic types, preventing one type of traffic load from adversely affecting the other.
Figure 1-1: Dual matrix approach The All-Native approach offers the most cost-efficient traffic handling in a mixed TDM and packet environment while supporting all the necessary PTN attributes. Using native handling allows a gradual and controlled shift from TDM-based infrastructure to packet-based infrastructure, while also minimizing risk by eliminating complex and costly encapsulation schemes to carry Ethernet over TDM or TDM over Ethernet.

Overview
NPT Product Line System Specifications
Introducing the NPT Product Line NPT is a family of future-proof, carrier-grade converged multiservice packet optical transport platforms, optimized for metro packet transport networks. NPT offers a unique convergence of Carrier Ethernet, MPLS-TP, SDH/SONET, TDM, WDM, OTN, and ROADM on a single platform. NPT provides carrier-class packet transport, combining the gold standard of transport network reliability and ease of management with packet efficiency. In addition to the All-Native support for pure Ethernet and TDM traffic, NPT supports the full range of traffic combinations, including Ethernet/MPLS-TP over TDM (EoS/MoT) and TDM over Ethernet (CES), providing maximum flexibility for the widest range of network scenarios.
Figure 1-2: NPT packet and TDM capabilities The NPT product line supports a full set of Carrier Ethernet services and features including QoS, protection, OAM, and synchronization to assure undisrupted service delivery. Integrated WDM, OTN, and ROADM allow seamless integration with next generation optical networks. By supporting the most advanced carrier class Ethernet-based services (L1, L2, MPLS-TP), the NPT is well positioned to deliver cellular backhaul transition/migration plans from TDM to Ethernet as well as for new build outs of LTE and 4G networks, support for full triple play services for residential NGN applications, and utility company transitions to packet, CoC, and business applications. The NPT is ideal for network convergence at the metro/access aggregation level, reducing the risks associated with the shift to packet based transport and giving you a smooth migration path to next generation packet based networks. The NPT family of products is managed by the LightSoft® NMS. The NPT's value propositions include:
Efficiency through ultimate flexibility Choice of packet and TDM handling options - native packet, native TDM, TDM over packet, and packet over TDM Unique build-as-you-grow architecture Converged packet, optics, and TDM

NPT-1600/NPT-1600C Specifications
Electrical Interface Connection Modules Electrical I/O cards are assigned an interface connection module. This module serves as the I/O card electrical line transceiver and is connected to the I/O cards via the NPT backplane. For example, when eleven PIO2_84 I/O cards are installed in the NPT-1600 cards cage, eleven M2_84xx connection modules should be installed in the modules cage. In this case, if hardware protection is required, one PIO2_84 I/O card can be configured as the protection card, and the corresponding protection connection module M2_84P I/O is installed in the appropriate slot of the NPT-1600 modules cage. I/O slot 12 is always configured as a pure optical slot without a modules cage module.

NOTE: When selecting bidirectional transceivers, pay attention that they must operate in complementary pairs. For example: OTR1-S3BD can work only vis-a-vis OTR1-S5BD; OTR4-L3BD can work only vis-a-vis OTR4-L5BD, and so on. The transceivers in the following table are arranged in complementary pairs.
