Description

Mudras for managing stress This is a subject of great interest, since we find that most of the people including children are having high stress levels. We have learnt that the following seven Mudras will be very useful in managing stress.

Apana Mudra Gently touch the tip of the thumb with the tips of the middle finger and ring finger (both hands preferable). Don’t apply any pressure. Gentle touch will do. This is a very useful Mudra in managing physical stress. It cleanses the entire body (internally). This can remove body pain.

Prana Mudra Gently touch the tip of the thumb with the tips of the ring finger and little finger (both hands preferable). Don’t apply any pressure. Gentle touch will do. This Mudra increases Prana or life energy. It energises the entire body; useful for people coming out of illnesses.

Gyan Mudra Gently touch the tip of the thumb with the tip of the index finger (both hands preferable). Don’t apply any pressure. Gentle touch will do. This Mudra is very useful in managing mental stress. This is also useful in managing depression, anger and many problems associated with the brain.

Sukshma Mudra Gently touch the tip of the thumb with the tip of the index finger of one hand and rest this on the middle of the palm of the other hand. Don’t apply any pressure. Gentle touch will do. This Mudra is an enormous stress reliever. It relaxes the body and mind. Many have stated that when they practice this Mudra for 30 minutes on the way home after the day’s work, they feel rejuvenated. Please do not do this Mudra if you are driving / riding a vehicle or doing any activity that requires concentration.

Shankh Mudra Keep the thumb of the right hand vertical and enfold it with the last four fingers of the left hand. Then touch the remaining four fingers of the right hand with the tip of the left thumb. This resembles Shank (conch) and hence the name. You can interchange the hands now. This Mudra is very good in building immunity. As per my Guru, It works on the throat as well as on 72,000 nadis or nerve centres in the lower abdomen i.e., below the navel. This Mudra strengthens body immunity.

Hansi Mudra Gently touch the tip of the thumb with the tips of the last three fingers viz., middle finger, ring finger and little finger. Don’t apply any pressure. Gentle touch will do. This is a restricted Mudra and can be done only for a maximum of 45 minutes a day. This Mudra is useful in responding to irritating persons or situations and hence useful in managing stress.

Apana vayu Mudra Gently touch the tip of the index finger with the base of the thumb and the tip of the thumb with the tips of the middle finger and ring finger (both hands preferable). People with hypertension have found this Mudra useful. People with cardiac problems such as uneven hear beat, ischemic heart have also been benefited. This Mudra is called Mrityu Sanjeeveni Mudra, since it can prevent heart attack (as per by my Guru).

Digestion Mudra       

Right hand thumb touches index and middle fingers, while the left hand thumb touches middle and ring fingers. It activates the Solar Plexus or Manipura chakra. It’s one of the best Mudras, a special Mudra. Chant OM RUM Namaha. Mantra and Mudra will activate stomach, liver, pancreas and intestines. It is also called as Acceptance Mudra. Whatever happens in your life has to be accepted by you. This will also work when you are in distress or whenever you feel sad, making you accept life as it is. When you can’t accept the other person, be in this Mudra then you will be able to accept them. RUM BUM LUM DUM also can be chanted with this Mudra.
