METHOD STATEMENT FOR BACKFILLING WORKS AND CONSTRUCTION OF EARTH DRAIN

1)

This method statement covers : a) Backfilling works (top up earth from 1m to 3.5m height). b) Construction of earth drain.

Location of Works Refer to Site layout plan for details (Refer Appendix 1). Working Time: 8:00am – 7:00pm

Method of Work a) Prior to the commencement of works, i) Take photo records for condition survey of adjoining properties and structures prior to commencement of excavation and backfilling works. ii) Submit the instrumentation monitoring proposal to LTA Railway Department for approval. iii) Engage a registered surveyor to take records and setting out for the whole of works. iv) Locate and identify the exact locations of all existing utility services within the work zone by means of cable detection and trial trenching works. Located cable will be clearly marked and pegged on site. Notification and clearances to be obtained from various affected utility services authorities.

Method of Construction Works a)

Backfilling works (top up earth from 1m to 3.5m height) i) Commence site clearance – remove the trees and shrubs. ii) Remove the turf – the surface layer. iii) Backfill the earth to the designated area and compact the backfilled earth by using ten tone roller (refer to the Figure 1: Layout plan showing the backfilling area next to the MRT line). iv) Earth compaction to be carried out at every 200mm by using the 10 tonne roller. v) Nuclear density test to determine the degree of compaction to be carried out at every 500mm top up. vi) Repeat the backfilling procedures until achieving the desired platform level. vii) Carry out the turfing to the final platform level.

b)

Construction of Earth Drain i) Lay 50mm thick hardcore. ii) Lay 50mm thick lean concrete. iii) Lay a layer of A8 BRC and cast with 100mm thick mass concrete (Grade 20). iv) Backfill to the side drain to form the gradient 1:2. v) Lay a layer of A8 BRC to the formed slope and cast with 75mm thick mass concrete (Grade 20). vi) Backfill to the side drain until achieving the desired platform level. vii) Removing all construction materials safety barricades and machineries off site and make good surrounding.
