OBJECTIVES 1.1

Block Paving Method Statement Objectives

This Method Statement describes the Construction Methodology and procedures amidst other details for the actualization of the summary task; Block Paving Works in respect of the subject project with Contract No: LC 10105800 for the; Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) Of An Annex Building (Portacabin) To Main Office Building In Ras Laffan Industrial City. This Method Statement is however to be read and applied in conjunction with the attached Job Safety Analysis and the approved Project Health and Safety Plan (HSE Plan). 2.0

GLEC. Project Manager would be responsible for Co-ordinating between client and the Engineering Consultant for design and execution of project.

3.2.2

GLEC Site Engineer and General Foreman would be responsible for the implementation of this Method Statement under the professional guidance of the Project Manager, Technical Manager and QA/QC Manager

3.2.3

The Project Safety Engineer would be responsible for advising, monitoring and ensuring that work execution comply with approved safety procedures.

3.3

Tools, Plants and Equipments

The major items of tools, plants and equipment envisaged for the project are herein below detailed; 

All Plant, Machineries, Tools and Equipments would be inspected on each occasion before it’s used and in accordance with manufacturers and statutory requirements. If any defects are identified, the equipment shall be taken out of use and replaced. Gulf Link Engineering & Contracting Company is also aware of the potential health hazards posed by hand arm vibration (HAV) and whole body vibration (WBV) and would ensure that relevant safety and preventive measures are taken as at when due.

4.0

SCOPE AND PROCEDURES 4.1

Scope of Works and Pre-activities 4.1.1

Activities captured in this Method Statement include the following:



Laying of Kerbs



Placing of Fill/Sub-base Material



Laying of Interlock Paviours/Stones

4.1.2 

Pre-activities Ensure approval and release of Work Area and Temporary Land Lease Area by QP and or other relevant departments prior to commencement of work on site as required.



Prior to commencement of work contained herein, Gulf Link Engineering & Contracting Company shall obtain the relevant work permits from QP/RLC.



Toolbox shall be conducted by the Supervisor. Use of necessary PPE shall be checked and enforced by the safety officer. (Safety Glass, Safety Shoe, Helmet, Coverall, etc.)

4.2

Construction Methodology/Procedures 4.2.1

Laying of Kerbs 4.2.1.1

Upon reaching the Site Sub-grade formation level, the Surveyor shall

set out proposed Kerb Line according to the approved drawings. 4.2.1.2

Wood/metal forms for the Kerbs concrete base construction shall be

placed and securely braced to limit any deflection during the concrete placement.

4.2.1.3

Concrete of specified grade and mix would be placed in erected

formwork after wetting to aid bonding. 4.2.1.4

Steel Dowel bars shall be placed in the concrete base slab if required

as per approved drawings 4.2.1.5

Kerbs shall be laid on cement mortar (1:4) bedding not more than

25mm thickness on concrete base as to adjust the levels of the kerbs with a maximum tolerance of 3mm as specified in the QCS. 4.2.1.6

In curvature locations and corners, kerbs shall be tailor cut according

to the shape and dimensions. 4.2.1.7

As soon as Kerbs have been laid, contiguous Concrete backing of

specified grade shall be poured behind laid kerbs for rigidity. 4.2.1.8

Joints between the Kerbs (Not more than 4mm) shall be filled with

fluid cement mortar (1:4). 4.2.1.9

At every 10 to 20m intervals, moment joint of 20 mm thick shall be

formed through the concrete bed and backing as well as the kerbs. Impregnated fiber board shall be used to fill the movement joints. 4.2.1.10 Curing shall be done for the entirely Kerbs, base and backing for seven days as captured in the QCS. 4.2.2

Placing of Fill/Sub-base Material 4.2.2.1

The area is to be leveled, watered and compacted by the means of

roller or plate compactor in small areas where big roller cannot reach. The level of the formation is to be inspected and approved. 4.2.2.2

Approved Sub-base material shall be collected from stockpile and

placed in maximum of 200mm compacted layers as applicable. The material is 4| Page

to be properly mixed and oversize or lump materials shall be removed by labors. 4.2.3

Laying of Interlock Paviours/Stones (60 mm & 80 mm Thick) 4.2.3.1

Sand material bedding of approved quality shall be placed in 50mm

layer, leveled and watered. 4.2.3.2

Interlock paviours (100 x 200 x 60mm or 100 x 200 x 80mm) shall be

collected from approved source and laid in approved pattern as per approved for construction drawings. 4.2.3.3

Interlock paviours shall be neatly trimmed/cut to fit perfectly into

kerb edges as applicable. 4.2.3.4

Fine/dune sand material shall be placed on top of laid Interlock

paviours to fill in the joints. 4.2.3.5

The laid Interlock paviour is then compacted by means of Plate

compactor. 4.2.3.6

The dune sand shall be hand brushed and removed after the

compaction works is completed to the satisfaction of the Site engineer. 5.0

6.2

List of Safety Requirements 

All activities would be undertaken in accordance with GLEC HSE plan and QP Safety procedures.



GLEC would ensure that all necessary PPE are provided and used accordingly at all times.



Work permit would be obtained (when required) prior to commencement of work on site.



Relevant material safety data sheet (MSDS) shall be retained on Site in Custody of the HSE Department.
