The purpose of this method statement is to describe the method of piling that will be used for this project 2.0 INTRODUCTION
The foundation of the following structures for this type of piles are: a.
Sewerage treatment plant
3.0 PLANT & EQUIPMENT
a. b.
Hydraulic hammer Dolly
c. d.
Welding equipment and generator set Piling machine
e. f.
Mobile crane Survey equipment
4.0 MATERIAL
150mm x 150mm Precast Reinforced Concrete Pile will be used as stated in Consultant’s Construction drawing. The pile
will be visually inspected for out-of- straightness and defects such as broken, cracks, etc. All out –of straightness and defective piles will be rejected. 5.0 CONSTRUCTION METHOD
a. Site preparation i. The site will be leveled flat and stable for piling operation. Level control pegs will be established at strategic ii. Every pile position is pre-surveyed by licensed surveyor in reference to the gridlines or the site boundary line. These positions will be pegged using timber peg or steel bar and tagged with red-white plastic tapes. The pegging works will be inspected and witnessed by Resident Engineer or RE representative before proceeding with next tasks. A record of inspection will be signed by the Licensed Surveyor, Contractor’s site supervisor, Consultant Clerk of works and the approved by the Resident Engineer. b. Pile installation operation i. Installation of piles will be carried out using IPH Hydraulic Piling Hammer or equivalent piling machine. It is to meet the requirement for installation of smaller sizes of driven pile up to 150 mm x 150 mm square pile. Technical specification for this machine rig is attached in Appendix A. ii. All pile head shall be flat and right angles to the axis of the pile. Hard wood will used in the metal helmet above the pile head to avoid damage during hard driving.

c. Verticality control i. When the starter pile is pitched in position, the verticality of pile shall be checked either with a spirit level or plumb bulb. The plumb bulbs are placed at a minimum distance of 10m from the pile and at right angle to each other. Once the pile is in vertical position, drive the pile for one or two meter and then check the verticality again before proceed with the piling works. For group pile, the pile position can always be checked with the adjacent pile during pile driving.
d. Termination criteria
i. Termination criteria of these driven piles will follow exactly as per stated in the approved construction drawing. Each set termination of pile will be inspected and recorded by Resident Engineer’s representative.
e. Jointing of piles i. Full fillet weld will be carried out for jointing of piles and will be carried out by experience welder. Once welding works has been completed for each joint, layers of epoxy paint will be applied to avoid occurring of corrosion to the joints that may cause any failure in the future. The paint will be ensured completely dry prior re-driving of pile is continued. The verticality of pile extension will be checked and shall be to the satisfaction of the Resident Engineer or his representative during the jointing works. f. Records i. Records of each driven piles will be made as in the form attached in Appendix B. This form will record the total length of pile, number of joints, cut off level, numbers of blows for every 300mm penetration and sets graph. The form will be signed by Resident Engineer, his representative and client representative i.e JKR representative. g. Test i. Pile Driving Analyzers (PDA) test will be carried out to the selected numbers of piles. The selection of piles for PDA testing will be done by the consultant representative. Work Method Statement for PDA testing will be submitted later for approval.
