METHOD OF CALCULATING JAIMINI CHARA DASHA

A FEW FUNDAMENTAL ASPECTS OF CHARA DASHA •

Determine the degrees/minutes/seconds of the seven planets of a natal horoscope in order to get their “Karaka” (significator) status, excluding Rahu and Ketu.

At the same time, Rahu and Ketu have given dominant role in deciding Dasha sequence for Aquarius and Scorpio respective. A) the span of Dasha of Aquarius could be either on the basis of the placement Rahu or Saturn according to their strength according to their association and/or planetary degrees. B) Similarly, the span of Scorpio Dasha could be either on the basis of the placement of Ketu or Mars according to their strength, which include their planetary association and/or planetary degrees.

In Jaimini System, dasha implies dasha of signs like Aries, Taurus, Gemini … Pisces.

Chara Dasha begins from sign rising in the Lagna. Suppose Aries sign is rising in the Lagna, first Mahadasha will be of Aries. Likewise, the sequence of Antara, Pratyantara etc will be in the same manner. In a particular sign dasha first antaradasha, pratyantardasha etc. will of that particular sign.

The durations of Jaimini Chara Dasha can range from 1 year (minimum) to 12 years (maximum).

DIRECTION OF CHARA DASHA •

Six signs adopt direct direction when these are in Lagna: Aries, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Aquarius and Pisces. Rule : If the 9th house from the lagna is falls in the Savya rashis Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Scorpio or Sagittarius, the dasha order will be forward or direct.

Six signs adopt indirect direction when these are in Lagna: Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn. Rule: If the 9th from lagna is in the Apasavya rashis Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius or Capricorn, then the dasha is backward of indirect.

THE ORDER OF CHARA DASHA CALCULATION: LAGNA Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces

PATTERN OF CHARA DASHA FOR MAJOR PERIODS Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer, Gemini Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer : Cancer, Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo : Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer, Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius : Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer, Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn : Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer, Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces, Aquarius Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn : Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer, Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces

Calculation of the chara daha period The 12 rashis are divided into 2 groups : •

(1) Direct or Savya group: Aries(1) Taurus (2) Gemini(3) Linra (7) Scorpio (8) and Sagittarius (9) – From these rashis, count upto the rashi directly where the lord of the rashi is tenented.

(2) Indirect or Apasavya group: Cancer(4) Leo (5) Virgo (6) Capricorn (10) Aquarius (11) and Pisces (12) – From these rashis, count upto the rashi indirectly (or in reverse direction) to where the lord of the rashi is teneted.

(3) The rules for computing the dasha period of Scorpio and Aquarius are stated below in 6.** 7.** and 8.** 2 Notes for students of Jyotisha Bharati, Bharatiya Vidya Bhaan, Mumbai, India

METHOD OF CALCULATING JAIMINI CHARA DASHA

(4) For determining the length of Mahadasha, there is concept of counting in forward and backward order for particular sign. Once we determine the starting Chara Dasha of a Rashi, the duration is that Rashi dasha is assessed by counting in forward or backward as follows:

LAGNA Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces

DURATION OF DASHA Count Forward to Mars' location, then subtract 1 Forward to Venus' location, then subtract 1 Count forward to Mercury's location, then subtract 1 Count backward to the Moon's location, then subtract 1 Count backward to the Sun's location, then subtract 1 Count backward to Mercury's position, then subtract 1 Count forward to Venus' location, then subtract 1 Count forward to Mars' (or Ketu's) position, then subtract 1

Count forward to Jupiter's position, then subtract 1 Count backward to Saturn's position, then subtract 1 Count backward to Saturn's (or Rahu's) position, then subtract 1* Count backward to Jupiter's position, then subtract 1

(5)

If a planet is in its own sign, it is assigned twelve years.

(6) **If there are more planets in the sign in which Mars (for Scorpio dasha) or Saturn for Aquarius) sits, then the counting is done to this sign; if there are more planets in the sign in which Ketu or Rahu sits, the counting is done to that sign.

(7) **If Mars is in Scorpio, and Ketu is not, then, Ketu is selected. If Ketu is in Scorpio and Mars is not, then Mars is picked. If both are alone in signs, then determine which among Ketu or Mars is at higher degree. The planet at higher degree is selected for assigning the dasha years.

(8) **If both are at the same degree, then count to the planet at higher minute. If both are at higher minute, count to the sign with higher second. This same way of determining the winning planet, for terms of counting the number of years to be assigned to the sign in question, is to be used for Saturn and Rahu in the case of Aquarius.

The number which results from the counting (including the sign from which the counting starts) is then to subtract 1 from the total. This will give the Mahadasha in years.

METHOD OF CALCULATING JAIMINI CHARA DASHA

THE ORDER OF CHARA DASHA SUB-PERIODS The same method of direction is used in the sub periods of the Chara Dasha, as used for the major periods. The only exception or deviation in the order is that the Rashi whose dasha is operating will have it’s own sub period last, as shown through the two examples below: Aries Direct Taurus Indirect

Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces and Aries. Major period rashi Aries comes last. Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer, Gemini and Taurus. Major period rashi Taurus comes last.

TABLE FOR CHARA DASH CALCULATION FOR MAJOR, SUB AND SUB-SUB PERIODS

METHOD OF CALCULATING JAIMINI CHARA DASHA

In this chart, the Karakas have been identified and the 9th house from the Ascendant falls in Pisces which is in the Apasavya Group. Therefore, the dashas of the rashis will be in the Reverse direction – from Cancer, followed by Gemini, Taurus, Aries, Pisces ….....to Leo.
