Mental Bank 8.1
THE MENTAL BANK The mental Bank is one of our most powerful tools as a hypnotherapist. It reinforces many types of therapies and speeds their progress. It can be used for procrastination, motivation, goal attainment, prosperity, weight loss, smoking cessation, etc. As therapists, we should be using the Mental Bank ourselves for two reasons: To understand how to use it so we may effectively teach our clients and to personally benefit from it.
Resistance It is very common to experience resistance when using the mental bank. The mental bank, like hypnosis, is a very powerful means of affecting the subconscious mind so resistance is expected. Resistance is a sign that we are pulling away from our limited subconscious script. Welcome resistance, it is the first step toward change. Our job is to help the client recognize and breakthrough their resistance to change. The mental bank gets in touch with our subconscious limitations. It focuses on our goals and puts us in control of our lives.
Synergistic Approach The Mental bank uses a synergistic approach, which means that the sum of the parts is more powerful than the parts individually. It is the results of Dr. Kappas’ years of experience and research into reprogramming the subconscious mind.
Recipe for Success There are five (5) synergistic ingredients that make the Mental Bank powerful. They are: 1. BELIEF - We must understand and believe that we are successful right now. In other words, we are successfully acting out our current subconscious “script” whether we are happy with it or not. If we’re not happy with it, we just need a better script. We will be just as successful fulfilling the new one. We must get the client to buy this concept! 2. DAILY REINFORCEMENT - In order to override the old unwanted programs, the new one must be reinforced until it takes over. The Mental Bank is not a positive thinking program. Positive thinking deals with only 12% of our mind and only works for about 5% of the population (the natural somnambulists). The mental Bank reaches 88% of the mind. We do not have to believe that the Mental Bank will work for it to work. In fact, it will still work as long as we do it.

3. SCRIPTING - Handwriting is an ideomotor response that comes from the central nervous system. It also goes back to the central nervous system, bypassing the critical area of the mind and entering the subconscious. Writing in script is most effective. Printing is digital and does not bypass the critical mind. 4. TIME OF DAY - The last half hour before sleep is referred to as the “magic 30 minutes”. This is the time when a person’s mind is overloaded and is in a natural state of hypnosis. Another important advantage is that something taken onto the mind at this time goes into the precognitive stage of dreaming, instead of the venting stage. 5. DREAMS - What we put into the Mental Bank in the magic 30 minutes goes directly into the wishful thinking stage and then into the precognitive stage. The mind takes the information that was input during the magic 30 minutes and attempts to predict the most probable outcome based on what it has just learned. The mind naturally wants to be prepared for the next day. Just through repetition alone, the mind will accept the Mental Bank information as a new program and vent out the old program in the venting stage of dreaming. The Mental Bank allows us to take control of this natural process.
REALITY VS. FANTASY The subconscious mind does not know the difference between reality and what is vividly imagined. When we visualize or script something, the information goes into the subconscious mind as if it were real. An interesting experiment has validated this theory. An experimenter randomly divides a large group of men into three smaller groups. One group practiced shooting free-throws into a basketball hoop for several weeks, the second group visualized shooting free-throws, but did not practice, the third group didn’t practice or visualize. Not surprisingly, the last group made no improvement, in fact, they got worse. The group who practiced actual free-throws for several weeks improved the greatest, but only slightly better than the group who just visualized shooting free-throws. What we script or visualize becomes a known to the subconscious mind.

THEORY OF MIND Understanding the Theory of Mind is the core of the mental Bank concept. Knowns represent emotional pleasure to the subconscious mind. Unknowns represent emotional pain of the subconscious. Our knowns become our comfort zone. Our comfort zone dictates a lot of our behavior. If our financial comfort zone is at $20,000.00, any time we go much above that, we get uncomfortable and begin to procrastinate or sabotage our success in attempt to get back to our comfort zone. Anytime we get much below that amount, we get motivated to get back up to our comfort zone. The mental bank is a way to consistently expand our comfort zone upward.
THE MENTAL BANK PROCESS 1. CONTRACT - We must first make a contract with ourselves to change our script. The amount of income should be based on our average yearly income. If you make $100,000 or less, you double the amount of your Mental bank Goal. If you make $100,000 or more, your goal should be four (4) times that amount. Use the gross amount, not the net. This amount will represent 25% of the total Mental bank balance. The idea of this is to live off the interest instead of the principle, so to speak. To figure out your hourly rate for value events, cross out the last three zeros of your Mental Bank goal, (i.e. a $100,000 yearly Mental Bank goal would equal $100 per hour.) 2. VALUE EVENTS - Value events are the things we should be doing to achieve our goals. Choose them ahead of time, and only pay yourself for ones you have written down. TIP: Write your Value Events down on a separate sheet of paper or card. Use it as a book mark for your Mental Bank Ledger. This will make it easier to refer to. For the balance, we’ll focus on three categories when choosing our value events. Happiness, Success and Prosperity. If you want faster results in one area, then focus all your value events on that area. Pick one or two goals for each category and come up with value events to accomplish those goals.

Bonus Events: Standard value events are the positive things we should be doing to reach our goals and are worth rewarding ourselves for. Bonus events are things we should be doing, but are more difficult for us. The rate for bonus events would be at least double the standard value event. Value events can be paid on an hourly basis or a per event basis (flat rate). 3. HAPPENINGS - This is very important. The Happening section is where we record and acknowledge the things that are happening due to the Mental Bank process. We begin to attract and manifest what our new script is dictating. This allows us to focus on the positive changes so we may keep our momentum toward our goals. The subconscious begins to recognize the happenings as evidence of established knowns. 4. AFFIRMATIONS - An affirmation is a positive thought that we want to become a part of our script. This goes into the investment section of the ledger or a separate notepad. Pick one affirmation and use it for at least a week. TIP: The mind won’t accept any affirmation that is too far out of it’s comfort zone. Choose your wording in a way that feels comfortable to you when you write it. Example: You may consider writing “I am wealthy”, however, if you do not have much money in the bank, the subconscious mind will reject that. So you may write instead, “I am available to attract wealth opportunities” or “All my efforts lead to my success”, etc. 5. INVESTMENTS - This section is used to get comfortable with making financial investments. We deduct money from our Mental Bank balance and make imaginary investments in a stock, property, business, etc. We follow the investment and when we are ready to sell it, we add the investment money and profit back into the mental Bank balance. Once have success with this process, we can have the confidence to begin making investments with our reality income.
