INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION  The Communication Management system typically includes three software applications: the Airline/Aircraft Operational Control (AOC),  Air Traffic Services (ATS), (ATS), and the Technical applications. Additional applications may be supported based on customer specific needs. These additional applications are not required to have associated display disp lay pages. The AOC applicat application ion can provide for the custo customer  mer  specific functionality functionality. The A ATS TS application provides for air traffic services such as ATIS, TWIP, TWIP, and clearances. The Technical Technical applicatio application n provides for link maintenance and other system and maintenance functions that are not typically used by the operator. For this reason, this guide includes only the portions of the Technical application that may be of procedural interest to the operator. The CMU software system is partitioned into three applications to allow the customer to easily make modifications to the AOC functionality and field it quickly. The system is certified such that the AOC application is a user user-modi -modificat fication ion datase datasett that is not required required to be certified. certified. This This allows the AOC to be easily modified to meet the needs of the individual customer.  Although the partioning of the applications is designed to be as seamless as possible, it cannot be made completely transparent to the user. This operator’s guide is organized with the intent of providing a logical flow while keeping the contents of each application grouped

together.. It is intended together intended to serve as a quick quick referen reference ce summary summary.. The reader should keep this in mind when looking for a particular function or  display page description. To submit comments regarding this manual, please contact: Collins Aviation Services Rockwell Collins, Inc. 400 Collins Rd NE Cedar Rapids, IA 52498-0001  Attn: Technical Operations M/S 153-250 or send email to: [email protected]

INTRODUCTION Safety Summary

COLLINS Corporate Datalink System CMU-4000/RIU-40X0

SAFETY SUMMARY  WARNING Individual operators may set specific operating procedures which may not be the same as those described in this guide. Refer to the appropriate airplane flight manuals for information specific to your airplane. WARNING Sunglasses with polarized lenses or lenses that are designed to filter specific colors/frequencies of light may adversely affect a pilot’s ability to see some colors shown on displays. Some elements on the display can be completely invisible while wearing these types of sunglasses sunglasses.. Also, Also, the color color of some elements elements may be

changed. For example, some blue light filtering lenses can change magenta to red. WARNING The CMU-4000/RIU-40X0 and related components exhibit a very high degree of functional integrity. However, users must recognize that it is not practical to provide monitoring for all conceivable system failures, and that erroneous operation could occur without a fau fault lt indication. indication. The operator operator has the responsibi responsibility lity to dete detect ct such an occurrence by means of cross-checks with redundant or  correlated information available in the cockpit.

OVERVIEW DATALINK SYSTEM  INTRODUCTION  The Datalink Communication system provides for the transmission of digital data to and from an aircraft via VHF, HF, and SATCOM subnetworks. These messages, referred to as uplinks and downlinks, facilitate two-way communication for applications such as: • Weat Weathe herr repo report rts s • Air Traf Traffic fic C Con ontro troll cle cleara arance nces s • Communica Communicatio tions ns with air airline line Dispatc Dispatch h and Mai Mainten ntenance ance th throug rough h fixed format and free text messages. Other applications included automated OOOI reports (Out-Off-On-In) reports and flight plan filing and updates, just to name a few. The onboard AOC functionality interacts with an “Information Provider” via a ground Datalink Service Provider (DSP). The Information Provider  services servi ces all AOC transaction transactions s with the aircraft. aircraft. The aircra aircraft ft oper operator  ator  contracts with a selected Information Provider to service all AOC transactions. The Information Provider, in turn, contracts with worldwide ground grou nd DSPs, such as ARINC, SITA, SITA, Avicom, Avicom, etc. to establish establish the ground/air links and message routing capability with the Information Provider

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION   A datalink system installation consists of a C Communication ommunication Management Unit (CMU), up to three Multifunction Control Display Units (MCDU)

and one or two Flight Management Computers (FMC), as well as communication radios such as VHF, HF and/or SATCOM. The CMU allows datalink communications with the Information Provider via the DSP. The CMU also has the capability to transfer datalink flight plan information to and from the FMCs. As a future enhancement, the CMU will interact with other onboard systems to access weather files and other Information Provider data that is saved on disk or in mass memory during preflight planning.

COMPONENTS  CM U

The CMU-4000 and RIU-40X0 products provide the same functionality functional ity.. The RIU-40X0 product will be used in datalink installations with a Rockwell Collins integrated audio system. The CMU-4000 will be used with non-integrated audio systems. The CMU provides the airborne interface between the datalink communications network ground stations stati ons and the air aircraft craft.. The CMU may interface with VHF radio, HF data unit, or SATCOM through either a shared voice/data or dedicated VHF transceiver, HF data radio, or satellite data unit.. The CMU encode unit encodes s digital digital messages into data that can pass through the communication system, and decodes audio signals received from the ground/satellite into digital data.

Control Display Unit (CDU)

The CDU is a combination display screen and keyboard, and is the pilot’s primary interface with the datalink system. The CDU may be a Multipurpose Control Display Unit (MCDU) that can be shared

with an FMS, ACMS/DFDAU, SATCOM, or other avionics. The CDU may also be one of a variety of Interactive Display Units (IDU) that combine display and entry by using a touch screen for display, keyboard entry, and line select key press presses. es.
