USE OF THIS SPREADSHEET - ALL. INTERNAL PRESSURE OF PIPING & PIPELINES DATA Standard Values - Commercial pipe data from tables User Input Values - Taken & inserted by the User from the tables of Codes, GPSA book or specified by self

Calculated Value Notes / Instructions for the user:

This Spreadsheet enables quick reference and calulations for maximum allowable pressure for a user identified service for in plant process piping, liquid and gas pipelines. This is also useful for operations persons doing modifications on the pipelines and piping as well as for preliminery design checks. This is not meant to replace a systematic design performed with full referencing to the precise applicable clauses/sub-clauses of the relavant codes and standards. The spreadsheet enables to find the allowable internal pressure in process plant piping as per ASME B31.3. Also on the same spreadsheet a provision has been made to check its pressure compatibility of the pipeline portion with either ASME B31.4 (Liquid Hydrocarbon pipelines) or ASME B31.8 (Gas pipelines). For example, assume that a pump discharge piping located inside the plant -A is routed to another plant - B, several miles away. So the integrity of the entire system is divided into piping in the plant - A (built as per B31.3), the pipeline between the two plants (built as per B31.4 for liquids or B31.8 for gas pipelines as the case may be) and the piping in the plant B (built as per B31.3), can be checked simultaneously using this spreadsheet.

3. Please note that the calculations in table are done using some values. A user can use each row for the sizes and input data of his requirement by inserting the values in black cells. Blue font cells contain standard commercial pipe data already incorporated in the spreadsheet. Calculated results are in Green font cells. User should know nominal pipe size, schedule no., material, material grade, method of pipe production (ERW, Seamleass etc.), design temperature, location for gas lines, and corrosion allowance to be given. Type A construction also applicable to "Liquid Petroleum Transportation Piping Code." ANSI B31.4-1979. Users may refer to the latest versions of the ASME Standards and GPSA book for correctness. Some of the tables are from older versions. Please note that the Table nos. mentioned the worksheets Table 1,2,3 & 4, FIG. 17-23, 24, 25, 26, 27 & 28 (The letters T, F, Y, E are added on each sheet name along with Table or Fig no. so that you can quickly select the appropriate reference worksheet) refer to the table nos. in GPSA book / Applicable Standard from where they are produced. Pipelines sizes can be 2" and 3" also. But the spreadsheet is developed from 4" onwards.

For any interpretation clarifications of Stress Values, notes and material related factors or data, always refer to the Engineers who are well versed with codes interpretation or assigned with material department.
