Blue Levitation

Mathieu Bich

Effect: A chosen card is levitating an inch on top of the deck. The card can be moved into several positions, and it remains suspended in the air. The magician takes the card, turns it over, the card is normal, and everything can be examined. Demo here: http://www.mathieubich.com What you need: What you need: For this trick you need: - an ordinary deck of cards - A piece of Blu-Tack© The amount you need is approximately the size of a Chapstick© cap.

Setup: Setup: Take the Blu-Tack© and shape it into a small cylinder, and stick it in the center of the back of the top card. Push with your thumbs on the base of the cylinder to stick it firmly onto the card.

Take the deck face up in your left hand (dealing grip). The cylinder is hidden under the deck.

Method: Spread the cards in your hands and ask the spectator to name any card. Take the named card and place it on the table.

Grab the cards by the small side with your right hand (thumb under and fingers on top)...

...and hold it in a vertical position.

Re-grip the deck with your left hand in a deep dealing position (the cards are touching the left palm and your left fingertips are free)

Place the named card on the deck while it is still in a vertical position. The card must touch the deck on the top short side.

Lower your hand, let the spectator (who is in front of you) see the deck, but don’t let them see that the top card is not flat on the deck.

Place your thumb on the top of the card, and move it slightly backwards. This will tilt the card up, giving the illusion that the card is rising.

Once the card is parallel to the deck, push on it lightly with your thumb just enough to stick it, and remove your right hand.

To increase the illusion that the card is not held, open your left hand, and shake the deck slightly.

Move the card slightly to the right (the cylinder moves under the card

and move the card back as you rotate it counterclockwise (The cylinder tips and is rolling, following the card under it)

Push slightly on the card directly above the cylinder to stick it, pause and show the card suspended above the deck.

Open left hand as before, and again, shake slightly the left hand to give the illusion that the card is not held in any way.

Take the card with your right hand by the small side and move it to the right, the cylinder rolls to the right, following the card.

Keep it rolling until the cylinder falls secretly onto your left fingers and rolls back under the deck, under cover of the card, into your palm.
