UP govt to build music village in Bismillah Khan's honour The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath has given its approval to building a music village named 'Bismillah Khan Sangeet Gram' to honour of legendary Shehnai player Ustad Bismillah Khan. i. This project is planned to develop at Varanasi, it will be evolved by Padma Shri Soma Ghosh, the adopted daughter of the legendary shehnai player. ii. It will have a museum centre, a training-cum-research centre and many other rarities associated with musical ‘gharanas.’

Central university for Divyangs to be set up in Uttar Pradesh Government will set up a Central university for Divyangs in Uttar Pradesh. i. It was stated by HRD Minister PrakashJavadekar while addressing the convocation function of Shakuntala Mishra national rehabilitation university, Lucknow. ii. Current Affairs Statewise PDF Uttar Pradesh govt scraps Samajwadi Pension Scheme The Uttar Pradesh State Govt., headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stalled the Samajwadi Pension Scheme of the previous Samajwadi Party Govt. under AkhileshYadav. He has ordered the officials to conduct a detailed review of this scheme to ascertain whether the beneficiaries are deserving candidates fulfilling the eligibility criterion. The officials have been given one month’s time to complete this task. •

This decision was taken during second cabinet meeting in which CM Yogi Adityanath was reviewing various social welfare schemes run by State Welfare Department.

About Samajwadi Pensions Scheme: •

Samajwadi Pension Scheme was launched in year 2014 with an aim to provide financial assistance to 40 lakh below poverty line (BPL) category families in Uttar Pradesh. This yojana replaced the erstwhile Rani Laxmibai Pension Yojana.



Under this scheme, BPL families were entitled to monthly pension of Rs. 500 per month for one year. The beneficiary family had to follow other conditions which were related to children education, adult literacy and health standards.



Post completion of one year, the pension was to be hiked by Rs. 50 every year, till the total amount reaches Rs. 750 per month. This hike of Rs. 50 was subject to fulfilment of other conditions as listed above. Non-fulfilment of conditions would result in termination of benefits.



The scheme was being administered by Uttar Pradesh State Welfare Department.

UP govt, center sign MOU for Power for All scheme MOU has been signed between Uttar Pradesh government and Centre for the “Power for All” scheme in the state. Highlights: i. The main purpose of this scheme is to provide 24-hour quality power supply in the state by October 2018. ii. To provide electric connection to every house and agriculture field by 2019. iii. The cost of the project will be 40 thousand crore and 20 thousand crore will be spent till 2018. iv. UP government has also announced 1912 helpline for the power related complains.Smart meter will also be installed to stop electricity theft.

Varanasi to get India's first freight village India’s first ‘freight village’ will be developed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. i. The freight village, a one-of-its-kind infrastructure platform, will attract companies that require logistics services and can cluster to improve their competitiveness. ii. The facility will come around the proposed multi-modal terminal adjacent to the city on the banks of the river Ganga.

Govt clears proposal for setting up new airport in Greater Noida The government has cleared a proposal for setting up a greenfield airport in Jewar in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh i. It is likely to be operational in the next five to six years. ii. The airport will help reduce congestion at the Delhi international airport.

NTPC sets up electric vehicle charging stations in Delhi, Noida The National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) has set up electric vehicles at Delhi and Noida, and will soon expand this to other location across the NCR region. i. It has been launched to promote clean energy transportation in the country. ii. The company is looking to venture into other cities, adding that installation is underway in multiple locations across the country.

i. Under the National Solar Mission Scheme the plant has been set up with an investment of Rs. 315 crore. ii. Uttar Pradesh Current Affairs - July 2017 Cabinet approves establishment of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), South Asia Regional Center (ISARC) at campus of National Seed Research and Training Center (NSRTC) in Varanasi Under the proposal, a Centre of Excellence in Rice Value Addition (CERVA) will be set up in Varanasi. •

This will include a modern and sophisticated laboratory with capacity to determine quality and status of heavy metals in grain and straw.



The Centre will also undertake capacity building exercises for stakeholders across the rice value chain.



This Center will be the first international Center in the eastern India and it will play a major role in harnessing and sustaining rice production in the region.

Adityanath said after establishment of AIIMS the people would get quality treatment there. ii. It will help those living in eastern Uttar Pradesh to get health care services. iii. The hospital will have 750 free beds and the project is set to cost Rs 1,750 crore. UP govt launches free power connection scheme for BPL families Uttar Pradesh Power Minister Srikant Sharma has launched free power connection scheme for the BPL card holders in the state on 23rd of July 2017. i. The scheme has been launched at 624 places across the state. ii. The scheme will also benefit the poor people who do not have BPL cards at present. iii. Those people who do not have BPL cards will have to pay between Rs 80 to Rs 120 for getting the power connection.

UP govt decides to end interview in Government jobs The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has decided to close the process of holding interview for selection of candidates for the government jobs in all the non-gazetted posts of Group B, C and D categories announced on 29 th of Aug 2017. Key Points: i.The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. ii.It has been decided with an aim to bring transparency in recruitment in government  jobs. iii.The state government has decided to do away with the interview in the recruitment of nongazetted officers from Class II to IV but for recruitment of gazetted officers in Class II category, Interview will be a must. Govt inks MoA to set up IRRI’s regional centre in Varanasi On August 2, 2017, Union Agriculture Ministry signed a memorandum of association (MoA) for setting up a regional centre of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to develop high- yielding rice varieties. i. The MoA was signed between Agriculture Secretary Shobhana K Patnaik and IRRI Director General Matthew Morell. ii. IRRI’s South Asia Regional Centrewillbe set up at the campus of National Seed Research and Training Centre (NSRTC) in Varanasi. UP CM makes Akshay Kumar the new brand ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared the Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar become the brand ambassador of the Swachh Bharat Mission. i. His upcoming film “Toilet: EkPrem Katha” deals with building toilets in villages and putting an end to open defecation in India.
