Safety and emergency functions The following emergency functions can be activated when the central on-board computer is in reset mode: Parking lights(headlight low beam) Driving lights Turn indicator indicators, s, IeWr IeWrigh ightt Hazard warning lights

Wipers (PWM output)

DIAGNOSIS If the central on-board computer is in reset mode, the parking and driving lights are activated when the parking and driving light switches are switched on. The driver uses the leftlright turn indicator switch to indicate the intended direction of travel. In this instance, the central on-board computer computer genera generates tes a n independent flashing rate to activate th the e turn indicators concerned. concer ned. The same princ principle iple ap applies plies to the hazard warn warning ing lights.

Send message address assignment The central on-board computer computer A302) receives various data via the CAN databus. The control units transmit a send message address for this purpose. Th These ese send message addresses can be assigned to the control uni units. ts. The follo following wing list can be used to pinpoint the source o off the fault. EE C l

DIAGNOSIS CHECKING THE CENTRAL ON-BOARD COMPUTER Important The te tests sts must only be performedwith the vehicle at a standstill, the parking br brake ake applied appli ed and the vehicle engine switched off. The test sequenc sequence e list enables you to check the central on-board comp computer uter components or functions using a multimeter (e.g. FLUKE 87). Rectangular signals or clocked signals sig nals can also be checked using an oscillo oscilloscope scope or multimeter (Scopemeter) 123 (FLUKE). Test description In the test sequence list in this section (examp (example: le: test sequence I ) , the the fi first rst test contact is designated Pin F1 F111 112 2 and the second tes testt contact is desigrlat desigrlated ed Pin MI1 MI16). 6). A voltage is determined between these pins using a multim multimeter. eter. Measurements are taken directl directly y on the central on-board computer. Th The e measuring mode to be set on the measuri measuring ng device (multi (multimeter) meter) is indicated between the test contacts in column 2. Example: +@+, Example: *

setting V = voltage measurement. setting Q = resistance measurement.

Once the test requirements have been fulfilled, the value indicated on the measuring device (actual charac teristic) characteristi c) can be compared with the desired value (desired (d esired characteristic). Two measur measurement ement examples examples are described below to aid underst understanding anding::

If voltages are being measured, switch on the ignition and leave the central on-board computer connectors connected. connected. The figure opposite is a measurement example based on the th e TGA. In this example, the volta voltage ge supply for headlight low beam, right is measured between pin BRl2 - positive line and pin MI16 MI16 ground line. The measured value obtained using the FLUKE 87 multimeter is 22.89 22.89V V (battery voltage).

If resistances are being measured, switch swi tch of offf the

ignition and leave the central on-board computer connectors disconnected. The figure opposite is a measurement example based on the TGA TGA.. In this example example with the I-CAN instrumentation databus, the resistance is measured between pin R219 (I-CAN high signal line) and pin R2110 (I-CAN low signal line). The measured v value alue obtaine obtained d using the FLUKE 87 multimeter is 120.8Q 120.8Q..
