Hey Parents!

Hey Teachers!

Congratulations! By purchasing this book you’ve taken the first step toward providing your child with a greater appreciation of music and learning.

The MMF! All-in-One Primer is a graded edition that for young piano students the speeds progress by introducing students to a limited collection of musical elements, and then drills these elements sufficently to help the student may gain mastery over them. It's an everything-theyneed-and-nothing-they-don't method book to help students succeed quickly.MMF! All-in-One Primer is recommended for the younger beginner. Older students may elect to begin with Level 1A.

As a parent, your role continues with the selection of an outstanding teacher and with the encourgement of daily practice. Below are a few tips to guide the journey. Choosing a Teacher - Find the right teacher can make all the difference. When interveiwing potential teachers, ask them about their expectations for practicing, recital opportunities, and how they help kids to be and feel successful. Practicing - Setting goals right at the beginning, and sticking to them, and a recipe for success. Very young students (3-4) will benefit most from a few minutes a day with a parent at their side. Older students (5+) will benefit most from a routine of 20 minutes a day for five days each week for example. Your piano teacher will be able to add additional insight and support. We wish you the best!

Right Hand Focus - The MMF! All-in-One Primer begins with only one note in the right hand, and expands from there. By doing so, students will be confident in their abilities every step of the way. Limited Left Hand Chords - When students are ready, MMF! All-in-One Primer introduces limited chord combinations in the right hand, and continues drilling for success. Limited Dynamics - Dynamics are limited to just two - mp and mf. Limited Rhythms - With rhythm being the most challenging musical element to master, MMF! All-in-One Primer limits the number of rhythmical symbols introduced to students. With only three rhythms and two rests to master (Whole Note, Half Note, Quarter Note, Whole Rest, and Quarter Rest) students are assured a successful and rewarding experience. 2

The Basics Keyboard Layout The piano keyboard is made up of white keys and black keys. The black keys are grouped in sets of two and sets of three.

The Staff The staff is made up of five lines and four spaces.

These lines and spaces show us which notes to play. The higher the notes are on the staff, the higher they sound. The lower they are on the staff, the lower they sound.

Draw a circle around the black keys in sets of two, and a square around the sets of black keys in sets of three.

When a TREBLE CLEF appears on the staff the notes will be high. You will tyically play these notes with your RIGHT HAND.

The key to the left of the set of two black keys is C. One of them already has the alphabet letter C on it. Find and label the other one.

C The C in the middle of your piano is called Middle C. Find and play that one. Then, find and play all the rest.

When a BASS CLEF appears on the staff the notes will be low. You will tyically play these notes with your LEFT HAND.

The Grand Staff The grand staff combines the TREBLE CLEF STAFF (top) and BASS CLEF STAFF (bottom) with a brace and bar line.

Basic Rhythms Music is made up of patterns of short and long rhythms and rests. Rhythms (Sound) Quarter Note (1 Beat) Half Note (2 Beats)

Finger Numbers You will see small numbers above and below the notes throughout this book. These numbers correspond to the fingers on your right and left hand: Thumb (1) Index (2) Middle (3) Ring (4) Pinky (5) Write the correct finger numbers on the right and left hand pictured below:

Whole Note (4 Beats) Rests (No Sound) Quarter Rest (1 Beat) Whole Rest (4 Beats) Measures and Time Signatures Music is divided into measures. The time signature found at th beginning of each piece tells us how many beats there will be in each measure. The example below tells us there will be four beats in each measure.

Hand Position The following illustration shows you the correct position of the fingers of your right and left hand on the piano keyboard. Once you find this position you will know where to place your hands for every piece in this book!

Color That Note! Treble Clef Note Name Worksheet Instructions Choose five crayons. Next, color over the five whole notes (C-G) with a different color for each note. (Example: C is blue, D is red, etc.) Then identify each note with its correct alphabet letter and color it with the correct color.

It All Adds Up! Basic Rhythms Worksheet Instructions Provide the answers for the first column of "facts", and then try to beat your score with more correct answers, or by racing the clock to complete the second and third columns in record time.
