Tooling Main Pump (3) Pressure tap (destroking pressure)

1. Place the machine on level ground and stop the engine.

NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or  disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

2. Connect a 4000 kPa (580 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (2) . 3. Connect a 60000 kPa (8600 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (1) . 4. Install 6V-4143 Coupler Assembly (2), 6V-3014 Hose, 6V-3965 Nipple Assembly and 8T-0859 Pressure Gauge at pressure tap (3) .

Test and Adjust

M300 Technician 1. Start the engine.

2. Place the engine speed dial at the HIGH IDLE position. 3. Lower the left console.

Main relief valve (4) Locknut (5) Adjustment screw (main relief valve pressure)

4. Loosen locknut (4) . 5. Turn adjustment screw (5) by three full turns counterclockwise. 6. Stall the bucket. 7. Turn adjustment screw (5) clockwise and watch the pressure gauge on pressure tap (1). Continue turning the adjustment screw clockwise until the pressure is 10000 kPa (1450 psi). Note: The pressure at pressure tap (3) should be near 0 kPa (0 psi).

8. While the engine is running, maintain the power shift pressure at a constant pressure. Use the following procedure to obtain the constant power shift pressure:

i. Connect a laptop computer to the service connector (6) . Note: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS0701, "Instructions for the Use of the M300 Technician Software with a Laptop Computer". ii. Start M300 Technician. iii. Select "Configuration". iv. Use the arrow keys to select the "Operation Mode" option. v. Select "Change Value". vi. Select "Constant".

vii. Select "OK". viii. Use the arrow keys to select the "Current Adjust" option. ix. Select "Change Value". x. Use the arrow keys to change the numeric value until the power shift pressure on the gauge at pressure tap (2) is approximately 1770 kPa (265 psi). Start with a numeric value of 55. Note: During the test, never try to turn the starter switch to the OFF position in order to prevent any change in power shift pressure. 9. Move the joystick to the full STICK IN position until the cylinder  is fully extended. 10. Adjust the main relief valve in order to increase the main pump pressure at pressure tap (1). Turn adjustment screw (5) clockwise in order to increase the pressure at pressure tap (1) . When the main pump pressure at pressure tap (1) is 14000 to 16000 kPa (2030 to 2320 psi), there should be a sudden pressure increase at pressure tap (3). Pressure at pressure tap (3) should be approximately 1/3 of the main pump pressure at pressure tap (1) .

(7) Adjustment screw (destroke pressure)

11. If the destroking pressure is incorrect, use adjustment screw (7) to adjust the pressure. 12. Loosen the lock nut on adjustment screw (7). Turn adjustment screw (7) until a sudden increase in pressure occurs at pressure tap (3). The increase in pressure should occur when the main pump pressure is 14000 to 16000 kPa (2030 to 2320 psi). 13. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque. 14. Reset the main relief valve pressure to the proper specification. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Specifications" in this manual for the correct pressure. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Main) - Test and Adjust".

PDT 1. Start the engine. 2. Lower the left console. 3. Place the engine speed dial at the HIGH IDLE position.

i. Connect the 123-6472 Portable Diagnostic Tool (PDT) to the service connector (6) . Note: Refer to Special Instruction, SEHS9825 for the use of the 123-6471 Portable Diagnostic Tool Group . ii. Select the "F1 Config/Cal" function. iii. Select the "8 Operation Mode" function. iv. Use the arrow keys to select the "Const. Operation" function. v. Press the "ENTER" key. vi. Select the "2 Current Adjust" function. vii. Use the arrow keys to change the numeric value until the pressure on the gauge is approximately 1770 kPa (265 psi). 9. Check the power shift pressure at pressure tap (2) . Note: During the test, never try to turn the starter switch to the OFF position in order to prevent any change in power shift pressure. 10. Move the joystick to the full STICK IN position until the cylinder  is fully extended. 11. Adjust the main relief valve in order to increase the main pump pressure at pressure tap (1). Turn adjustment screw (5) clockwise in order to increase the pressure at pressure tap (1) . When the main pump pressure at pressure tap (1) is 14000 to 16000 kPa (2030 to 2320 psi), there should be a sudden pressure increase at pressure tap (3). Destroke pressure at pressure tap (3) should be approximately 1/3 of the pump pressure.
