GENERAL
3.1
Description
MAC-SU-7.03
1. Jib cranes shall be freestanding, base-mounted mast-type cranes, with cantilevered boom and trolley hoist capable of 360-degree rotation. 2. Jib cranes shall consist of mounting base, a mast, a masthead, a boom, and a hoisting mechanism all integrally designed for rated load capacity, mast height, and boom length. 3. Boom swing, trolley travel, and load hoisting shall be either air or electric powered in accordance with data sheets. 4. Trolley hoists shall be wire rope type, provided in accordance with MAC-DS-7.03 and MAC-SU-7.02. 5. Jib cranes that use electrohydraulic stationary winch with fixed end lift point may be provided if approved in writing by Purchaser. 6. Winches shall comply with data sheets and MAC-SU-7.05. 7. Crane shall have lifting lugs to facilitate installation and removal of entire unit. 8. Belt drives shall not be used without prior written approval of Purchaser. 9. Jib crane controls, including boom swing, trolley travel, and load hoisting, shall be provided by pendant suspended from festoon track or mast mounted control station in accordance with MAC-DS-7.03. 10. Hand operated pendant controls shall include a push-type emergency stop button. 3.2
Performance 1. Jib cranes shall be capable of handling rated capacity at maximum height and reach specified. 2. Crane capacity and working radius shall be as specified in technical requirements. 3. Crane performance shall be guaranteed for specified rated operating conditions. a. Negative tolerance shall not be permitted for capacity on any hoisting equipment. b. No negative tolerance shall be permitted on capacity. 4. Hoisting equipment shall be suitable for 20-year life under specified operating conditions. 5. As a minimum, hoisting equipment shall be suitable for installation and operation in a humid, salt laden, offshore marine environment. 6. Hoisting equipment and components shall be nonsparking and certified for use in NEC Class I, Group D, Division 2 classified areas as a minimum. 7. Motors shall be mill and chemical duty rated for continuous service in accordance with technical requirements. Motors shall be supplied from Purchaser approved manufacturer.
3.3
Design Criteria 1. Design load shall be dead load plus 1.25 times rated capacity of crane. Jib cranes designed for off loading materials and supplies from boats shall also include safety factor of two (2) on rated capacity to account for impact loadings. 2. Load carrying parts, except structural members, hoisting ropes, and gearing, shall be designed such that calculated static stress in material, based on rated load, shall not exceed 20 percent of published average ultimate strength of material.

3. Structural members shall be capable of withstanding allowable unit stresses specified in latest edition of AISC 360. 4. Crane shall be capable of withstanding wind speed of 110 miles per hour (MPH), if unloaded, and wind speed of 35 MPH, if fully loaded and operating. 5. Wire rope shall be sized using minimum safety factor of five (5) based on rated line pull. 3.4
Materials 1. Unless specified otherwise, structural steel shall comply with ASTM A36/A36 M. 2. Unless specified otherwise, pipe shall comply with ASTM A53/A53 M, Grade B. 3. Bolting shall be carbon steel in accordance with ASTM A325. 4. Bolting shall be coated with Type II Class 8 chromated cadmium plating. 5. Wire rope shall be improved plow steel, independent wire rope core (IWRC).
3.5
Fabrication 3.5.1
General 1. Shearing, flame cutting, and chipping shall be done by mechanically guided tools, if possible. 2. If laminations or split ends are discovered in plate, pipe, or rolled shape, entire member shall be removed and not used. 3. Pipe shall be fabricated in accordance with API Spec 2B.
3.5.2
Welding 1. Welding design and procedures shall comply with current issue of AWS D14.1/D14.1 M, with exception that tolerances for deviation from specified camber and sweep shall be manufacturer standard tolerances rather than tolerances prescribed by AWS D14.1/D14.1 M. Such measurements shall be taken at manufacturer facility prior to shipment. 2. Welding procedures and welder qualifications shall be provided by manufacturer. 3. Weld procedure specifications, weld qualification records, and welder qualifications shall be subject to Purchaser approval prior to start of fabrication. 4. Welds shall be seal welded to prevent corrosion. 5. Areas that cannot be seal welded shall be boxed in with plate and seal welded.
3.6
Safety 3.6.1
General Control devices and systems shall operate in fail-safe mode.
3.6.2
Guards for Moving Parts 1. Solid steel guards shall be provided to within 1/2 inch of stationary housings adjacent to moving parts that are potential personnel hazards. 2. Guards shall not be screen, expanded metal, and plastic.

MAC-SU-7.03 3. Guards shall be securely attached. 4. Guards shall be capable of supporting, without permanent distortion, a 200-pound person if guard is located where a person might step.

BASEPLATES 1. Baseplates shall be circular in shape and fabricated from structural steel plate with minimum thickness of 1/2 inch. 2. Baseplates shall be designed for anchoring to platform structure using six (6) or twelve (12) bolts arranged in a circular pattern. 3. Number and size of anchor bolts shall be determined in accordance with AISC Manual of Steel Construction. 4. Anchor bolts shall be minimum of 3/4-inch nominal size. 5. Bolt holes shall be drilled 1/16 inch larger in diameter than bolt. 6. Bolts coated with PTFE shall be high-strength type in accordance with ASTM A325, with minimum diameter of 3/4 inch. 7. Baseplate shall be welded to crane mast and reinforced with minimum of four gusset plates equally spaced around mast. 8. Gusset plates and tubes shall be completely seal welded to both mast and mounting base. 9. If specified, base shall also be designed for attachment to platform structure by welding.

MAST 1. Mast shall be designed to limit deflection to 0.075 inch per foot of boom length with load of 1.25 times design load applied at boom tip. 2. Unless specified otherwise by Purchaser, mast shall be fabricated from heavy wall seamless pipe, ASTM A53/A53 M Grade B. 3. Top of mast shall be closed by seal welding circular steel plate flush with outside surface of mast. 4. If air- or electric-motor-operated winch and trolley are specified, top of mast and masthead assembly shall have air swivel or electrical swivel connection.

MASTHEAD 1. Unless specified otherwise by Purchaser, masthead shall be fabricated from ASTM A53/A53 M Grade B pipe. 2. Masthead shall have both upper and lower ant-friction bearings to allow smooth and easy 360-degree rotation and to minimize operator fatigue. Anti-liftoff lugs shall be provided to prevent accidental dislodgment of boom. 3. Masthead bearings shall be sized for minimum 5000-hour, B-10 bearing life based on full-rated load and vacuum-degassed steel rating. B-10 bearing life is defined in CMAA 70-04. 4. Upper pintle bearing shall be lifetime lubricated, sealed ball bearing, mounted in finely machined race. Bearing shall be capable of sustaining axial load equal to 1.25 times capacity of crane, as well as radial load resulting from moment.

5. Lower bearing shall be continuous roller bearing recessed into heavy wearing ring that shall be welded to masthead. Bearing shall have grease fitting positioned for easy access. 6. Steel top plate shall have minimum of one supporting gusset welded to top plate and masthead to provide rigid boom attachment. 7. Bolting that attaches boom to masthead top plate shall be designed in accordance with strength requirements in AISC Manual of Steel Construction. 7.0
BOOM 1. Maximum vertical deflection of boom produced by maximum-rated capacity, hoist weight, trolley weight, and dead load shall not exceed 0.075 inch per foot of boom length if trolley is positioned for maximum reach. 2. Booms shall have trolley stops with minimum thickness of 3/8 inch at both ends. Trolley stops shall be shock absorbing type. 3. A 400-watt, swivel-type floodlight, in accordance with Purchaser technical requirements for NEC Class I, Group D, Division 2 area, shall be attached to end of boom. 4. Jib crane maximum capacity shall be marked on two porcelain-coated metal signs legible from floor level. a. One sign shall be permanently affixed with stainless steel screws to each side of crane boom. b. Sign shall not be affixed with adhesive.
8.0
POWERED SWING MECHANISM 1. If specified on data sheets, jib cranes shall have powered swing mechanism. 2. Power shall be provided by air motor or electric motor. 3. Swing mechanisms shall have following characteristics: a. Variable speed b. Smooth operation c. Floor control d. Pinion gear reduction 4. Drive arrangement shall have braking mechanism that can stop boom swing in smooth and gradual manner without jolting load.
9.0
COATINGS 1. Base, mast, masthead, and boom shall be painted for offshore use in accordance with COM-SU-2.02. 2. Protective coatings shall include the following: a. Surface preparation b. Abrasive blasting c. Coatings d. Touch-up and repairs

3. Coating work shall be performed after completion of fabrication and testing. 4. Hoisting cable and wire rope shall be coated and protected in accordance with API RP 9B. 10.0
IDENTIFICATION AND MARKINGS 1. Maximum capacity for lifting equipment shall be clearly marked in large letters on each side of equipment and shall be clearly visible and legible from floor level. 2. Markings shall be either painted on hoisting equipment or on a sign permanently affixed to equipment with stainless steel screws. 3. Attachment with adhesives shall not be acceptable.

PREPARATION FOR SHIPPING AND STORAGE 1. Items to be individually shipped shall be uniquely numbered and tagged. 2. Numbers shall be referenced with item description on bill of lading.
