Overview: Petrel Geology What is Geological modeling? This is a subdiscipline of geology that integrates structural geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleoclimatology, and diagenesis. The aim is to create realistic geologic model representations of portions of the Earth's crust, especially oil and gas fields and groundwater aquifers.

Data Set Gullfaks field is a major oilfield in the North Sea. Exploration started in 1974 and it is now producing through three platforms. Field description: Rotated fault blocks caused a structural trap. Reservoir is mainly Lower to Middle Jurassic sandstones. 1.9 billion barrels of recoverable oil 23 billion m3 of gas 2.4 million tons of condensate.   

Petrel Explorer Panes (1) Input: Imported files, data, and generated data not related to a 3D grid Models: All data related to the 3D grid Resuts: Numeric results of volumetrics and simulation Templates: Predefined and user-defined color templates

 Petrel Explorer Panes (2) Processes: Lists all available processes in Petrel. Cases: Running a volume calculation, uncertainty run, or a simulation run creates a case, which has an icon in the Cases pane. Workflows: Stores workflows created by the Workflow Editor . Windows: Lists all windows opened in a project

Project Settings and Units Fill in project info on the Info tab. Set up projection and units on the Coordinates and units tab. Spatial (coordinate system): Allows you to build exploration projects across a coordinate reference system (CRS) while keeping the geodetical integrity of the data intact. Note: With Petrel spatial positioning, no errors are introduced by the reprojection!
