M&M Bearing housings are made of grey Cast Iron. Majority of bearings are grease lubricated. Since one grease fill will last for a long time, most housings can do without re-lubricating holes. However M&M housings are molded with 1/8” grease nipple as standard. The bearing seat in the housing admits displacement of the bearing, hence the bearing acts as a floating bearing. Locating bearing mountings are formed by inserting locating rings. M&M bearing housings are most economically sealed by felt seals, provided as a standard accessory. Felt seals are suitable for temperatures upto 100oC.
Assembly and Operating Instructions: • Thoroughly clean all housing parts prior to assembly. • The housing base should be installed at the proper location, however without tightening the bolts firmly. • Insert the felt seals into the proper recesses. Soak the felt seals in hot oil prior to inserting them into the recesses. • The ball bearing or the roller bearing used for the floating bearing must be located exactly in the center of the bearing seating bore.
M&M housings permit axial clearance for the outer bearing ring; thus allowing to compensate eventual dimensional and/or assembling inaccuracies, as well as length deviations due to dilatation. Axial guiding of the machine component to be supported in bearing housings is provided by the insertion of locating rings between the outer ring and the housing collar. If only one locating ring is used, always insert it at the side of the adapter sleeve nut. After mounting of the bearing and fastening of the respective anti-friction bearings, the housing base must be aligned and screwed tightly. During mounting please keep a careful check on the radial play of the bearings. After having provided the bearing with the required type and quantity of grease, install the top of the housing and screw tightly. For housing closed at one side, the blanking plate must be inserted into the corresponding groove when installing the top of the housings.
