Introduction Welcome! These brief notes are intended to accompany the second session of my my ‘Master Class’  presented with my fiends Vanishing Inc. instruction.

They are not intended to be used as a stand alone

Please use in combination with the video sessions to get the best results from the

information contained within. At this point in our weekly sessions, you might begin to feel overwhelmed with the number of exercises I am suggesting. I would urge you you to remember that there is no rush. These are exercises that can be undertaken over a significantly longer time period than the four week long process we are engaged with. There is no no rush! During the course of these notes I am suggesting, recommending and bringing to your attention  books for further reading, r eading, free online resources and more. I do not have any links to any of these, aside from those which are created by me, they are simply sources I believe to be useful and worthy of attention, all hyperlinks are working at time of writing.

The Emotional Approach A casual miracle should result in lasting change, usefulness or transformation in the real lives of the  people who participate with it. It isn’t performance material, it isn’t to be  seen  seen   by rather to be  shared . I think of it as “magical life hacks”, hacks”, demonstrations that result in those participating leaving with something bigger than the trick itself. These “life hacks” are rooted in the experience of mystery. If the effect begins and ends with itself, there is no reason for people to care, in this casual context. It’s performative instead of explorative. It is about you and not about them as an individual or group. In a formal performance context, performance material that is seen, is perfectly acceptable. However in the casual context it isn’t. Such material results in the switch between a human experience of social nature and an experience of someone showing off. This simple distinction solves the issue we explored in last weeks session, where we identified the trap that performance in such casual settings can often feel lacking in social intelligence. Resulting in a magician without power, power, value or maturity. maturity. By reversing the focus, allowing the demonstration to point away from you and directly to them, this power imbalance is, to a larger degree restored.

Could it be used to highlight how intuitive the person is and to give them a way to connect to their intuition in their life to feel more connected to their t heir family, friends and loved ones? 1. __________________________________________________________________  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________________ __________  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __ 2. __________________________________________________________________  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________________ __________  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __ 3. __________________________________________________________________  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________________ __________  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __  ______________________  ___________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ _____________ __

My Three Main Methods Having identified this principle in my own work, I have observed that the main methods for me in this emotional approach are: 1. Rea eadi ding ng Sys Syste tem ms

I believe as a mentalist, psychic entertainer or intuitive magician, there is simply nothing that will create as big an impact as performing hard hitting emotionally charged charged readings. In 99.9% of of the times I have performed in casual settings, over the last 5 years, I will simply have performed a reading. It is prop free, focused entirely on the person you are wo working rking with and allows easy and and natural connections to the ‘life hack’ principle which will allow the experience to grow larger than itself. My favoured approach is to learn how to use a traditional system, such as Tarot and then to use this as the bedrock for readings you will give, with and without the open acknowledgement of the system.

I have explained this in more detail on my DVD set “Jermay’s “Jermay’s Mind” and within this

masterclass. I believe properly properly mastering this approach will serve you very well and reward you with connections, reactions and experiences of mystery that far outweigh the time and effort required to learn it. I personally base all my readings on the Tarot. Tarot. To learn more about my approach to tarot reading, without deception, tricks or mentalism techniques join my free Facebook Group: Jermay Tarot, which has over 24 Horus of free instructional video, over 5 hours of free guided meditations and more all designed to help others learn my system to read rea d Tarot. Tarot. You You can join this free group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/jermaytarot

2. Language, Hypnosis and Suggestion

A natural progression from readings, this might well be the sou source rce of all real magic. The ability to utilise language to reframe and create experience is at the very core of the highest level skills for any mentalist or magician. Language is different from hypnosis in the fact that you must learn the functions and inherent potential to create magic from nothing more than the words you choose to speak. Excellent resources to widen and deepen your skill base with language are:

4

Steven Pinker’s wonderful books “The Language Instinct” and Instinct” and “Language, Cognition and Human  Nature.”   These two books  Nature.” books will provide a fascinating and immediately immediately useful set of tools tools and way of thinking about words and how to use them magically. Many other writers, researchers and philosophers are available to dive significantly deeper on the topic of language shaping reality, however these should only be read when looking for deeper information knowing that their focus will be less immediately applicable to the performance of magic and mentalism. Among my personal favourites are: Terrence McKenna, Jillian Hichliffe, Seth Fry, Michael Booth, Slavoj !i"ek, Lewis Hyde and more. For a quick video I made, focusing on how language creates the world we experience and the magical potentiality within this truth watch: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=305346450712935

Mastering the skills of Hypnosis and Suggestion will essentially give you a real magic wand. Whatever you choose to speak aloud, becomes the reality for those who hear the words you speak. You become the manifestation of the word ‘Abracadabra’ and are able to create magical experiences inside the minds of those you work with. This type of magic will always extend beyond beyond anything you might be able to produce using traditional, mechanical forms of deception. In most casual performances cases suggestion is going to be significantly more useful than traditional hypnosis. Hypnosis being defined as being a state of mind ushered ushered in with the execution of a formal induction induction process. Suggestion being defined as the application of persuasive language. You can see how I have applied suggestion to performance in my very first publication, written when I was 16 years old titled ‘7 Deceptions’  which  which focuses on connection techniques of suggestion with performance material. Additional authors, thinkers and researchers to to get started in studying in this area are: Ormond McGill, Milton Erikson, Signey Signey Rosen, Richard Bandler, Bandler, John Grindler. My personal favourite is the underrated book: “Monsters and Magic Sticks” by Sticks” by Steven Heller. To understand the concept of manifesting the word Abracadabra watch this short video I made as a love letter to the real magic contained within the ancient word: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=4259364164104143

3. Body Mind Connection.

The mind body connection is the area, that most often, I look toward in order to find ‘mechanical deceptions’ that can be applied to create demonstrations demonstrations for the casual settings.

This will be

explored in more depth in our third session, when we explore my pendulum routine. Mind body body connection magic will allow you to produce results within your participant.

It is

literally the most engaging experience for the person you are working with. Often they can also be scaled up to work with an entire group, when that that is the right choice. It is harder to point to one one complete or exhaustive source of this type of magic and mentalism, since it tends to be more scattered across literature. John Fishers “Body Magic” is Magic” is an interesting collection of such material and an excellent place to start, but does require some work on the behalf of the reader to identify what from within has real  potential in performance.

The Sensational Approach Sometimes there is usefulness in being more brash, more ego driven in the demonstration itself. This is very true when looking to create myths and stories about your abilities. While the emotional approach will always result in powerful stories among those who experience them, the sensational approach is louder, bolder and achieves a different result. These demonstrations function essentially ‘publicity’ stunts.

The real benefit is that they produce produce stories told by those who who saw them. I

believe these types of demonstrations are best reserved for a time after which an emotional demonstration has been experienced by the same person, on an earlier occasion. Most traditional effects, with their self referential nature fit within the sensational approach. In this masterclass we have covered three examples from my own experience of creating and performing these types of demonstrations: 1. Payi Paying ng wi with th blan blankk pa pape perr 2. Perip eriph hera eral Mag Magic 3. Memo Memoris risin ing g the the in inter terne nett At the core fo the creation of sensational effects and demonstrations is a strong understanding of drama and story telling.

In many ways they are wish fulfilment themes that could be be at home

within a movie. Some good basic book bookss to begin understanding techniques of story: Aristotle “Poetics” “Poetics”,, John Trudy “The Anatomy of a Story”, Story”, Chris Booker “The Seven Basic Plots,” David Mamet  Mamet  “Three Uses Of The Knife”

Rapport & Timing One of the often overlooked aspects of the craft of mentalism and magic are techniques of rapport  building and timing. Here are three simple things to test in your performances: 1. It’s proven that people who hold eye contact for longer are perceived to have higher levels of charisma. In order to take advantage of this, simply trick yourself into holding eye contact longer,  by checking the eye colour of every single person you speak with. The act of looking, registering re gistering and thinking about their eye colour extends the period of eye contact without being awkward or difficult. 2. People don't remember the entire duration of experience equally. When recalling something later, they're much more likely to recall their first and last memories of a person or event. We all know that first impressions are important, but it's essential to nail your last impression, too. So when you're creating demonstrations, think carefully about how to leave the space with the mystery still hanging in the air. 3. Perform on a Wednesday night. The dreaded ‘hump day’   as now been researched in depth by cognitive theorists and strong evidence shows that experiences on a Wednesday night are perceived with more emotional power, as people tend to be slightly depressed from the working week. Performing something to someone in this state, allows you to be the sunshine that breaks the rain. Do this often enough and they begin to confuse you for the sunshine itself.
