Description

LUBE OIL SYSTEM NECESSITY OF LUBRICATION:1. To reduce friction between moving parts 2. To reduce wear & tear of moving parts VITAL CHARACTERSITICS REQUIRED:1. Maintaining oil film under operating condition. 2. Resisting oxidation and formation of slush & varnish 3. Clean burning with a minimum carbon residue when surplus gets onto the wall 4. Lack of corrosion action on bearing material. 5. Resisting emulsification incase of accidental mixing of water. 6. Must have sufficient viscosity to withstand bearing pressure. TYPE OF LOCO 1.WDM2 1000 2.WDM3A 3.WDG3A 4.WDP1

CAPACITY 910ltrs 1110ltrs 1110ltrs 760ltrs

DIPSTICK READING 400ltrs 600ltrs 600ltrs 320ltrs

lube oil used in diesel electric loco is RR 606. Various types of lube oils are there .They are 1. RR 606 Multigrade oil 2. Deivac Rs-1140.20c 3. Rotella – T140 Burma shell 4. R super rpm delo special- caltex 5. Servo Super RR402-20c 6. Servo super RR 407-20c 7. Servo super RR 409-20c 8. Servo super HP 613- Hindusthan petroleum. DESCRIPTION: Lube oil is stored in the sump, located at bottom of crank case of diesel engine. A lube oil pump is provided on free end of the engine towards right side to pressure the oil and is driven by crankshaft extension gear the pump sucks oil through suction pipe and rotates at rpm of 1140 rpm & max discharge is 340 gpm and develops a min pressure of 2.3kg/cm2 and max of 6.0 kg/cm2 at 8th notch. Relief value is provided on discharge line and set at 130psr (9 kg/cm2) Which sends excess oil back to sump oil goes to filter

drum in radiator compartment which has 8 paper type filter which cleans lube oil and oil gets cooled in the lube oil cooler due to indirect contact of cooling water cooling helps to maintain lube oil viscosity with in the limit oil further enters into lube oil strainer A branch line between strainer & cooler will be connected to regulating value. Set at 110 PSI( 7.7 kg/cm2) to maintain system pressure by sending excess pressure back to sump.In strainer oil is passed over a fine micronie mesh where it gets cleaned and is headed towards lube oil main header located on left side of the engine. From header oil goes to main bearings through s-type jumper pipes after lubrication oil passes to connecting rod big end bearings through drilled holes in crank shaft from here oil goes to small end of connecting rod to lubrication rod to lubricate piston pin bearings from here oil will find passage in to piston crawn. After absorbing temp oil will try to drop back and will splash back fall on cylinder liner walls to lubricate walls & piston ring. From main header inlet connection small branch pipe is taken to connect to lop guage & safety devices. There are two branch connections of main header one is leading to left bunk & other to right bank these auxiliary header will supply oil to value lever mechanism and to FIP support mechanism and also to cam gears through spray nozzles. Before aux header , one more connection is taken to supply oil to OSTA from right aux.Header from bottom of regulating value a thin line is taken to lubricate turbo super charger after lubrication oil is drained back to sump through gravity & is ready for recirculation to protect engine from low lube oil pressure safety device will come into operation and make engine shutdown . NOTE:- Drain cocks provide by side of filter drum and strainer unit should always be kept in close & sealed with sealing wire. LUBRICATION USED IN LOCO :PARTS LUBE OIL QTS 1. REASONS FOR LUBE OIL CONTAMINATION:1. Water contamination with lube oil Reasons:- 1. crack in cylinder liner or engine block 2. lube oil cooler tubes damaged. 2. lube oil contamination with fuel reasons crack is cylinder head. 3. Fuel oil contaminating lube oil Reasons:- Injectot dribbling of fuel drain channel may be crack 3. Water contamination of fuel :Reasons :- 1.Fuel filling cap not provided properly during running REASONS FOR LUBE OIL PRESSURE DROP:1. Less lube oil in sump 2. lube oil pump may be defective. 3. Relief & Regulating value may be struck up in open condition 4. Delivery pipes may be leaking. 5. Filter drum ring may be clogged. 6. Filter drum ring may be damaged. 7. Filter drum & strainer drain cocks parrially open 8. strainer may be dirty. 9. Lube oil guage is defective. 10. Guage pipe line may be damaged. SAFETY DEVICES:OPS 1 OPS 2 LLOB
