When we want to plan EPT for LTE sites, we usually have 2 steps: 1. prepare parameters for planning; 2. use software to plan essential parameters;

Normally we use U-net to plan PCI/PRACH. This software has lots of function, in this course we only talk about the 4G EPT planning part. When we need to use U-net to plan parameters, we need to prepare 3 excel files for this software: Site

Normally we use simplified excel files. The full file is more complex.

After we prepared the 3 files, we can start to plan parameters with U-net.

1.Build a new project with LTE-FDD template, or open an existed project

2.Import electronic maps

3.Import site list, transceiver list and cell list

4. Double check the following parameters:  Transceiver: Antenna  Cell: Frequency Band, Max Power, PB, RS Power, Prach Reuse Distance, PCI Reuse Distance, PA, Transmission Mode. *the default reuse tier of PCI & PRACH is 2. Normally this is not enough. We’d better use reuse tier 3 or 4. HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

TAC/TAL Planning Manually

TAC/TAL is a key parameter for LTE. Normally we keep the edge of TAC area same to 2G/3G LAC area. If the LAC of some sites are mixed, we need to suggest our customer to adjust TAC or LAC(rehoming). When we need to plan TAC/TAL for a new site, we have 2 steps: 1.use Mapinfo to show the distribute of eNodeBs. (Google Earth and other software are also recommended)

TAC/TAL Planning Manually

2.Check the TAC/TAL around the new site. Keep the TAC/TAL same to the sites around it. If the LAC is mixed and the customer reject to adjust TAC/LAC, then the TAC should follow the customer’s request and keep mixed. HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

PCI/PRACH Planning Manually

According to 3GPP protocol, there are 504 PCI(0-503) and 838 root sequence index(0-837). Normally we will not use all of them in our network. We will remain several PCI and PRACH for mobileshelter. For example, we use PCI 0-494, root sequence index 0-819 for normal eNodeB. Then we have 9 PCI(495-503) and 18 root sequence index (820-837) at leisure. We can apply them in mobileshelters. If 1 mobileshelter have 3 sectors, cell radius is 2km, that means we need assign 1 PCI and 2 root sequence index for 1 sector. Then we can plan PCI and PRACH manually: Cell ID
