1. Identification Identification is known as general statements. It introduces or identifies specific object (person or animal). 2. Description The description is parts of a text to describe or explain the characteristics, appearances, personalities, habits or qualities of the object. c. Social/Language Function - To give information about a particular entity by describing its features, history, and special characteristics. - To give information about things by describing and revealing physical attributes, behaviors, uses, etc. d. COMPOSITIONAL REPORT (LA 3) a. Definition Report text is a text which presents information about something, as it is. It is as a result of systematic observation and analyses. So there is no subjective opinion from the author. b. Generic Structures Generic structure of classifying report 1. General statement/General Classification General statement identifies classification or definition and may also indicates a particular aspect of the topic that is being treated. 2. Description Description provides facts about various aspects of the subject. Each aspects might be elaborated by referring to distinctive characteristics, or by giving examples, and classifying. Generic structure of compositional report 1. General statement/General classification
General statement states brief information and entity identification about the focus of report text.
2. Description Description explains the facts about the components or parts and the functions of the object. c. Social/Language Function - Classifying report: To organize and describe a field or topic into a class and subclass. - Compositional report: To organize and describe a field or topic according to its part (a part or whole part). d. Languages Features - The use of simple present tense - The use of action verb - The use of technical terms - The use of nouns and noun phrases - The use of linking verb - Descriptive language is used that is factual rather than imaginative (e.g. Color, shape, size body part, habit behavior, functions, etc) 2. REPORT TEXT 2: COMPARATIVE REPORT & HISTORICAL REPORT (LA 4) a. Definition Comparative Report
Comparative report text is concerned with general categories of things and informing about technical and scientific topics. It enables clear similarities and comparison between two or more classes or things. It is as a result of systematic observation and analyses. Historical Report Historical report text is a text which present information about a field or topic from a specified time period that match the selected assignment, status, and priority criteria. b. Generic Structures Generic structure of comparative report text 1. General statement: It introduce entities to be compared 2. Description: It contains the systematic analysis of similarities and differences. Generic structure of historical report text 1. General statement: It identifies historical period or site. It define and locates in time and place. 2. Description: It contains feature or characteristics, activities, behaviors, artefacts, and historical significance. c. Social/Language Function - Comparative report is to identify the similarities and differences between two or more classes or things. - Historical report is to give information about the way things were in relation to a particular historical period peri od or site. d. Language Features - Generalized participants are initially represented in simple noun groups.
