List of Items to Pack and Carry to the USA As most of you are travelling to the USA for the first time; hence, I would like to suggest to you all to carry Original Certificates, Passport (with VISA-Stamped), I-20, Ticket and money (both USD and INR) with you in your cabin luggage. Besides, you need to carry essential items like clothes, medicines (with a prescription), utensils and some necessary and some optional items in your check-in luggage. Therefore, I attempted to categorize these items as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Official Documents Medicines (with prescription) Essential Items (You will need them once you arrive and so better to carry them) Optional (you may buy it in the USA or from India) Items to be purchased in the USA.

Before we go through the things, we need to buy, give special attentions to luggage bags (Checkin bags), a) Should confirm to size and weight specified by your airline. b) Should have TSA locks, which is mandatory for traveling to the USA.

1. Important Documents, Cash, and Traveler’s Cheques.

Please carry the following items with you in cabin luggage and must keep one copy of all the documents in your check-in luggage.

1. Passport with Visa Stamping. 2. I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility). 3. Admission letter. 4. Health Immunization Form. 5. Medical prescriptions. 6. Transcripts- original. 7. Degree certificate Original. 8. Affidavit of Financial Support and Bank Statements. 9. Mark-sheets Original. 10. SEVIS Fee (I-901) paid Receipt. 11. Admission/Offer Letter. 12. GRE + TOEFL score reports. 13. College leaving certificate. 14. International Driving license, if you have one. 15. Traveler’s cheques-Cash & Receipts (Not more than ($7,000). 16. Cash – Notes and Coins (Not more than $3,000). 17. Cash - Indian Currency (Not More than Rs. 7,500) 18. Photographs Photo – USA size (2” X 2”) and Indian Size (3.5 cms X 4.5 cms). 19. The contact information of International Student & Scholar Services office at school. 20. Birth Certificate. Please carry Addresses of your Temporary Accommodation & Phone numbers Emergency Contact Person. Also, convert your sim to Intl. roaming or buy Matrix sim at the Airport.

5. What to buy in the USA: This is your first task, go to Walmart or some mall and buy essential items you did not carry with you from India. This is an interim list, just to make you aware what you may require to buy, but you are ultimate authority to decide upon what to buy.
